Damned the High Taxes; Union Jobs are at Stake

Updated on June 18, 2011

In typical kill the goose to protect the gander Union cronyism General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said his company would be helped, not hurt, if consumers paid higher gas taxes. So to hell with the American consumer who is already suffering let’s once again protect the UAW workers at GM by raising the price of gasoline another dollar in order to force this same group of consumers to buy these “Crappy” new little toy cars Obama Motors is now being forced to make!

In an interview published in Detroit News, Akerson floated the idea of a $1 a gallon increase in the gas tax as a way to encourage buyers to purchase these smaller, more fuel efficient cars. Greg Martin, spokesman for GM's Washington office, confirmed that the quotes reflect Ackerson’s and GM's view.

Akerson admitted he is proposing this jump in the gas tax in lieu of tighter fuel economy regulations that GM and other automakers will have to meet in coming years. By the year 2025, automakers could be forced to hit fuel economy averages of as much as 62 mpg. These new confiscatory standards are just part of this Regime’s Cap and Trade by any other name is still Cap and Trade policy. In other words they were unable to get Cap and Trade passed so they smoke and mirrored it into existence through the EPA. Any way they can keep America from drilling for its own energy is their end goal!

Akerson went on to say that a higher gas tax, including an immediate 50-cent-a-gallon increase to take advantage of recent declines in gas prices, would do more to help the environment than the pending fuel economy rules. In other words, in typical Democratic Party style just raise taxes to take care of any problem; real or imaginary! If they actually bought into this Global Warming Garbage they would be embracing these proposed EPA standards instead of reverting back to that age old Democratic fix for any problem; raise taxes!

The current federal gas tax is 18.4 cents a gallon; so what Akerson is proposing is only a 643% increase in tax from 18.4 cents per gallon to $1.184 per gallon. Now that’s not unreasonable is it? After all anything to save Union Jobs; right?

Back to his Toy Cars, Akerson went on to say "I maintain these are the right vehicles at the right time in our history." Well they may be the right cars in order to satisfy Obama Motors objectives but the American public will never willingly consent to drive these little midget versions of the real thing around!

So my friends I leave you with this thought; Akerson like any greedy union leader is all about protecting his people regardless the pain and suffering it will ultimately cost the American People; Damn the High Taxes Union Jobs are at Stake!

      Thanks Pappa Frog

I'm with you; I wouldn't drive an Obama Motors car if they gave me one free!

When he said it I immediately knew he was drinking that new high test brand of koolaid Obama has been pedaling. It's Cap & Tax my friend. Trade has nothing to do with any of this.

634% tax increase is but an eye lash bat to the Do Nothing Party. I wouldn't buy a Government Motors car if they tried to force me to.

      Great Hub.

I'm with you on this one; I made that decision to boycott GM when Obama saved his union buddies and stiffed hundreds of thousands of other investors paying them pennies on the dollar and calling them greedy!

I would never buy a car from General Motors. I think we are all sick of unemployment, high prices and high taxes. Good hub.
