Great Programs ALL SUMMER

Our summer is filled with exciting and interesting events and programs.

In July we will have an imminent climate change scientist speak with us. Jeff Gibbs is the author of an important book on climate change, Planning and Development in the Southwest.

The book covers how our growth here in the Southwest will change the area and how sustainability needs to be addressed from the aspect of water.

"How communities can establish a vision as a guide for the planning for their future direction. How creating a sense of place can promote sustainability in a community. How communities can plan for sustainable supplies of water. How street trees can support the establishment of complete streets and car-optional communities. How regional solutions can be established for the regional sustainability challenges in the years ahead. How home owners associations can participate in the design of our communities. How green conversions can be used to repurpose excess golf course properties."

Water is a serious issue globally. We desert dwellers understand that all too clearly.

Our speaker in August is Bernadette Mills who is a serving member in Peoria on the Arts Council. She will address how the arts directly correspond to economic success. More on Ms Mils in the next newsletter. As you are probably aware the current administration is very interested in de-funding the arts. So, this information is relevant to our intersects

Our program chair, Marsha McGovern, is working hard on securing candidates for our September Ice Cream Social. She has secured David Schapria and Kathy Knecht and hopes to receive confirmation from David Garcia.

Stay informed and meet your candidates. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions.

Impeachment Watch at 78% as of May 25th

Here are two interesting websites that curate Trump 45 Impeachment Watch:

Monday –Trump leaked classified info to Russian officials in the Oval Office meeting. (Washington Post)

Tuesday – Trump asked FBI Director James Comey to drop the investigation against Michael Flynn. (New York TImes)

Wednesday – The Justice Department assigned Robert S. Mueller as Special Prosecutor to oversee the Russian investigation, which also included the White House’s recent behaviors. The New York Times also reported Michael Flynn had told the Trump transition team that he was under investigation before he was given the job of National Security Advisor. It was further reported by McClatchy that Michael Flynn stopped a military plan developed by the Obama administration, which would have gone against Turkish interests. Michael Flynn at the time was an unregistered foreign agent for Turkey.

Thursday – Flynn and Trump still in contact. Trump Twitter claims investigation by Special Prosecutor is a witch hunt. (Yahoo news)

Friday – Trump informed Russian officials (in Oval Office) that James Comey was a “nut job” and how he had relieved a “great pressure” on the Russian investigation by firing Comey. Also,a Senior White House official has been identified as a Person of Interest in the FBI’s Russian investigation. Russian officials bragged that they could use Michael Flynn to influence the President. (New York Times and Washington Post) and CNN)

Latest on Thursday, May 25th, is that Trump told Philippine Strongman Dictator Rodrigo Duterte the location of 2 nuclear submarines. This is highly classified and the Pentagon is not reacting positively on this breach of confidential material.

Also, on morning round up is the story that Great Britain as well as Israel are not taking steps to NOT share confidential information with the USA due the information being leaked by Trump.

As of vital importance to OUR community is the fact that Trump lied about protecting Medicare, Social Security, and health insurances.

This site will outline this information succinctly for you and can act as your one stop 45 watch:
