We Should Cry for Venezuela, Not Seek to Become Venezuela

Updated on March 14, 2019

Ignore the in-my-face obvious issues and lend all of my attention to unwarranted, groundless non-issues? Not happening!

Angel Falls, Venezuela - The highest waterfall in the world
Angel Falls, Venezuela - The highest waterfall in the world

Sadly, I cannot share any personal pictures of a visit to Angel Falls or anywhere else within Venezuela, but I have many from my recent visit to Aruba.

I've shared a few of them throughout.

Say No to Socialism; to Sadness and Despair

I've just returned from a wonderful first time visit to Aruba and loved the whole experience!

There is so much to see and do and explore, beyond the beautiful beaches and I recommend a visit to any person who enjoys travel.

I’d love to visit again at some point.

One evening, while a group of us were having dinner, we struck up a conversation with our young Server.

He seemed to me to be new at his job; a little nervous, but very pleasant and eager to serve.

I'd guess him to be in his early twenties.

He told us that he had worked his way up to waiting tables and that he had been doing so for only about a week. (I was right, you can always spot the newbies)

This young man went on to tell us about being from Venezuela and how he had to leave, because there was no longer any opportunity for him there.

He saw it coming and he got out early!

He talked about how beautiful the Country of Venezuela is and he beamed with pride, when speaking of his native Country, not the least bit ashamed of it, completely understanding that socialism is responsible for the destruction of his once thriving Country.

Yes, he used the word “socialism”, he had absolutely no hesitation, no qualms about what he knows to be...the truth!

He was visibly upset and became teary-eyed a couple of times, all while seeking to contain his emotions, all while continuing to remain professional and accommodating.

We told him that we were visitors from the United States and about how a certain political party in our Country embraces and is currently having a lovefest, with the idea of socialism.

He had heard such things already and he did not understand how or why, it could be happening in the United States of America. He shook his head in disbelief, saying they would not want any part of socialism, if they could see.

We explained that they do see...but that does not sway them, in the least!

Many continue to toy with the idea of matter what

Aruba is not very far from Venezuela and we were told by residents, that Venezuelans are constantly attempting to escape and seek refuge in Aruba, but are turned away.

I don't know if the young waiter had a connection with Aruba and was able to enter in easily or how he was able to gain access to the Country and gain employment, we didn't get that far in the conversation.

I've thought about him more than once though, since our conversation and have wondered about his family and friends.

Did they all see the signs and abandon ship as well?

Are many of them still living in Venezuela?

Are they some of the ones we've seen pictured, as they scavenge for food, water, survival?

It is heartbreaking and yet.....

here we are, living in such a blessed, prosperous, thriving Nation, watching it unfold, following the news stories, viewing the pictures in newspapers and magazines of the massive squalor in Venezuela and for many here in the is the in thing, all the rage, the latest greatest...right now!

The embracers of the concept of socialism, love it when the politicians list off the many things they are willing to do for them, if only they’ll support them with their vote! With their vote, they’ll be giving them license to take, in order to give...and the gullible, naïve citizens, {both young and old} respond jubilantly and accordingly, as if nothing could ever be taken from them, only from others!

I am certain many starving, scavenging Venezuelans, once thought the same!

No Place Like Home

While I feel for Venezuelans, I understand why Aruba has to be on high alert, protecting their small island and their people from an onslaught that would completely destroy them and their livelihood.

Although Aruba is doing much, much better than Venezuela and although I wanted to bottle up the constant tropical breeze which blows and bring it home, it is always so good to come home to the United States of America.

No matter where I've visited and I've been blessed to visit many places, whether it is 'One Happy Island' or another happy, beautiful place, there is no other place like this place I call home!

While ignorant (or maybe not so ignorant) certain big Government-loving politicians spin their webs, selling socialism, as the greatest thing since sliced bread and while gullible, dazed and confused U.S. citizens get caught up in the sticky mess, I'll not sit idly by, allowing it to fester and grow, to the point of no return.

If enough of us do the same; by spreading the message, vigilantly active in getting through to those that do not understand what socialism is, what it represents, how it destroys...we can stop it, before it advances any further than it already has!

Any time a Bernie Sanders or an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez opens their mouth, spreading this socialism garbage, they should be booed, not stopped from speaking, but the content of their message, should be booed every time it's shared; not applauded, never embraced!

I love waterfalls and have always wanted to see Angel Falls, but Venezuela is one place that I, like the rest of the world right now, will choose to avoid, as if avoiding a deadly plague. Sad!

Good Morning Ken, when we were talking to this young man, it was evident that he had heard....more than once, about America’s love affair with socialism right now.

I have to wonder about the indoctrinated, far gone ‘products’ of today’s government-run education system, here in the States, would they dismiss this young man and his message, as radical?

Would they attempt to straighten him out with Bernie quotes and AOC’s vision, explaining how they are the authorities on socialism....blah, blah, blah? I think they would! I think this young man’s message or any other person who has gone through it or is going through, their message, would be lost on this crippled mindset. :(

      Hi A B

"Socialism does "stink" and I have a very difficult time understanding those here in the States, loving the idea of it! Crazy!!!"

Well you hit on it, some of them are crazy, and some love inflicting harm on others, we have to accept that there are insane and evil people in the world.

Then there are the brainwashed, many college students have their heads filled with BS, and have no experience to compare it to... had they had the opportunity to spend a year living in Venezuela or North Korea, most of them would wake up... for those who wouldn't, see my first paragraph.

Lastly there are the power hungry, and socialism is just another tool used by some to empower themselves at the expense of all others.

There are two kinds of socialists...the greedy fools who actually believe things can be free and the evil bastards who see a way to wealth by plunder.

That's also why socialism always fails.

Well done piece, AB. I am now a follower.

Between the beautiful Florida sun and now the islands ... hey, you keep a healthy tan. And it's all natural without energy controls and policies to regulate your health.

You are funny, smart, and kind, and I'm sorry for not visiting your work lately, but I'm back on the reading path now. Lots to catch up with from you.

      Much respect and admiration,

Hi, Abwilliams, sounds like you had a great adventure and you spoke with someone about how destructive socialism has been for his country. You are right: socialism stinks and we have to avoid that mess.

      Much respect - Tim

Thank you so much Vivian! I am so glad that he was one of the lucky ones that got out early, but I still feel for him, as he mourns his Country.

I agree that there are many deadbeat Parents that just don't care. School is a time when their children are out of their hair and they do not give a second thought as to what they are being fed. Sad, but true. :(

Thank God there are many caring, involved Parents that actually 'Parent' as you do, countering all the garbage out there!

      Stay strong!

Great article, A B. I love that you included a first-hand account from a former Venezuelan you met on vacation! That was a solid support for your stance.

Newt Gingrich addressed the crazy talk we've been hearing from people like AOC and Bernie Sanders. He said we all know that they are nuts, but we have to prove it to the American people. I'm so glad you are a voice out there helping our cause!

Yes, the public schools are trying to indoctrinate kids. However, I still blame parents for not teaching important truths at home. If kids respect their parents, they will always believe what their parents tell them over the schools. I teach truth to my kids not only about biblical standards, but about socialism and environmentalism so they can stand up for truth in their generation. My kids believe me and reject any narrative that says otherwise.

And this is what we need

-people who will not be silenced but will continue to speak the truth without fear or backing down to those who would attempt to repress them.

Thank you James for taking the time to read my article.

I must agree about school choice!

I just saw a story about students staging a walkout (tomorrow?) against climate change. These kids have been brainwashed into believing that climate change (which has existed since the beginning of time) is going to kill them and destroy the earth. AOC’s ‘Green New Deal’ and her and any other person spewing socialistic ideas is their religion and these people are their heroes. It is what consumes them!

Parents MUST BE paying attention to what is happening to their children in government schools!

Thank you for this fine article. You speak the truth. It is a shame our government schools have poisoned the minds of our youth with this sinister socialism. School Choice is the only way out of this morass.

      Oh oops...:)

Yes, I think he or others speaking out, would get through to some, but as Pop stated, others have no interest in working or contributing in any way, so they'll look for the easiest path, no matter where it leads. They don't care, it's about entitlement for them.

Yep, the power hungry politicians want the votes, (any way they can get them) the lazies want the 'gifts', something for nothing. They may vote, if they aren't too inconvenienced in doing

      so. That's!

Actually, I was thinking of the one where I mistook you for my SIL. But the fish-feet pic is pretty neat, too. Except that you make my feet feel tickled just thinking about it!

I do agree that there should be more people like that young man speaking out about their experiences as a direct result of socialism. Maybe someone will make a documentary on the topic featuring people like him to share in schools and movie theaters...all over the internet and Netflix. Stranger things have happened.

Idiots who lawd the benefits of socialism are hoping to get the votes of people who have no interest in working or contributing to society. The joke is that most of these people have no interest in voting. The Dems are off the rails. Trump will win in 2020.

LOL.....yes, I was hesitant to share ‘that one’ on FB, that whole feet pic thing you know. ;)

I wish the young man could talk for just 5 minutes to fans of socialism. He may not win them all over, but he’d get through to many. I’ve no doubt!

Good Morning and thanks for commenting Shannon.

You didn't share my favorite picture. LOL.

But on the topic of socialism - it sounds so good in idealistic theory. However, it doesn't work on a practical level and Venezuela is modern proof of that, just in case no one believes. And yet, people still want to try it. Makes no sense. I've never been rich, but I've been at the lowest end of the spectrum and I'd still take democracy and capitalism over tyranny or socialism any day!
