Don't Let Politics Divide Our Country
Whenever there is an election, people are forced to take sides to defend their candidate. This is the way it has been for many years. We all have our reasons for the opinions we believe are the right ones. Nothing divides people more than politics or religion. The thing to keep in mind is that when all is said and done, we still have to live with each other in this country. There are many elections to come in our future, but we can’t let politics let us forget what our real goal is for our country.
We all want to live a decent and happy life. We want to be able to have a job to support our families, have adequate healthcare, affordable food, and be able to save for a healthy retirement income. These things seem almost impossible to attain at times. When times get tough, we look to our government to make the right decisions to make things better. The reality is that our government is run by people. People that sometimes are so concerned with their political futures and reputations that the good of the people gets lost in a myriad of bureaucracy and partisanship. Both political parties are guilty of this behavior. The behavior of our politicians tends to cause a division amongst the people of this country. This does not have to happen if people realize that no matter what our individual views are, the divisive politics in our government is going to continue. I don’t think it matters who becomes the President; the problems facing our country will remain because both sides are not willing to come to the table and genuinely attempt to solve these many issues. We see this example with President Obama. He has proposed many ideas that could possibly help our country to recover from this recession, but the Republicans will never allow anything he proposes to get passed. The same thing happened when former President George W. Bush was President. The Democrats would not cooperate with the ideas he proposed to get the country moving. This partisanship in Washington is dividing our country in such a way that absolutely nothing is getting accomplished to help so many people who are suffering tremendous losses.
My opinion on the future of our political climate is that if a Republican wins this next election, you will see a sudden surge in jobs, the economy will begin to improve and people will believe that the Republicans were the most effective political party to improve the state of our country. On the other hand if the Democrats win the next election, the state of our economy will stay the same, the job losses will continue and the housing market will be slow to recover. Basically, it will be four more years of the same for the people of this country. As long as a Democrat is in the White House, especially an African-American President, the Republicans will not agree on anything proposed to them. They will not even entertain the thought of a compromise, because they believe their policies will get this country back on the right track. The corporations that support the Republican agenda are holding on to billions of dollars that could be spent opening up jobs for the millions of unemployed people in this country, but they will not open their wallets to do that until they see a Republican back in the White House.
In past elections, I have been pretty sure about who I would be voting for, but this election has made me apprehensive as to who I want to see running this country. The problem I have with the Republican agenda is that although I believe their plan will pacify the corporate community, therefore, corporations will spend their money and improve the employment situation along with the economy, but this will not be enough to trickle down to the poor and middle class to make a significant difference in our lives. The Republican plan will mostly benefit the very wealthy and corporate America. The problem I have with the Democrats plan is that they cannot seem to work together on some of the major issues affecting our country. There seems to be a lot of divisiveness within the party, which makes them appear weak and ineffective.
This next election should be a wake-up call for the people of this country to be knowledgeable regarding the issues facing our country, and where the two candidates stand on these issues. Don’t allow yourself to be manipulated and divided by the politics being played by both sides. It is a good idea to let your congressman and senators know that we want to see progress being made to improve the state of our country. Regardless of which candidate is elected, if neither side is willing to work together and compromise to get our country back on track, the poor and the middle class will continue to suffer. The anger of the people will begin to resonate loudly and chaos in this country will be the end result. This election has put a negative face on the United States, and the whole world is watching our country unravel because of selfishness, greed, and prejudice.
