Dumbing Down America: One Realtiy Star At a Time

Updated on April 29, 2011

Will The Insanity Stop?

Oil prices are soaring and I'm trying to figure out if I will have enough money to buy gas so I can get to work tomorrow. Taxes are high, politicians are threatening to take Medicare away, we are in the middle of two wars and we may be invading Libya soon. Young men and women who are fighting in those two unpopular wars and are coming home in body bags on a daily basis.

So why the hell are we talking about Donald Trump? Seriously, who does this guy think he is and why in God's name is the media giving this guy any attention? He's a joke but for some reason our media feels that giving him attention is important news coverage. They think we actually care! Do they think America is stupid?

Well apparantly, Donald Trump thinks we are stupid. He actually thinks that we are stupid enough to vote a man into office who is not a citizen of this country. He also believes our government is too stupid to check that out before he ran for office in the first place.

So Obama showed the world his birth certificate this morning and hoped to God that he could finally shut this imbecile up. Did any of us really think Trump would shut up? Nope, he's still on TV, gloating about his awesomeness for bringing the president down. I wish it were a joke but sadly, it's not.

Now before anyone tries to say what a genius Trump is, let me remind you: The man is NOT the self made millionaire he claims to be. He inherited his father's money and businesses, then went bankrupt in the 80s before becoming famous for his hotels. He's also a reality tv star who wants to be president. The truth is, he would be nowhere if it weren't for daddy.

I can go on and on about my disgust for Donald Trump but that's not why I'm writing this. My disgust for Trump is nothing compared to the disgust I have for the media. Donald Trump, Lindsay Lohan, the Jersey Shore cast and Charlie Sheen are not news topics. They are over-induldged, self-centerd, narcissistic celebrities who do not deserve to be the prime topic on CNN. Sure, I love reading about celebrity gossip but please put this crap where it belongs: TMZ and The National Enquirer.

I can't help to wonder if this is an attempt to distract us from the real problems. The United States is in a lot of trouble right now. We have greedy people in power and big coorporations pulling all the strings in DC. People are losing their jobs while politicians are raising taxes. Some politicians even want to do away with unemployment benefits. It's a scary time in America.

Today I listened to Norman Goldman on my radio while I was driving home from work. He said journalism is dead. That's the truest statement I've heard in a long time. Maybe we could resurrect responsible journalism if America demands it. After all, it's all about ratings isn't it? What if we all took a stand and stopped watching the news? I wonder what would happen. Besides, it's not like we are being informed of anything important anymore. Unless you really believe Charlie Sheen's goddess leaving him is important. Would the media wake up and go back to what it used to be?

Americans are smarter than the media gives us credit for. It's time we speak up. Stand up to the media, the government and fight for a change in the way things are being done. If we keep going at this rate, as a nation we are doomed. That's a pretty dramatic statement but think about it. If you are not being informed of what your government is doing, anything can happen.

We have a right to know what is going on in this country. We deserve respectable news outlets that tell us the truth. I want our troops home. I want other countries to start respecting America again and I want the economy to soar again. None of these things will happen if the news continues focusing on has-been celebrities and reality tv stars.

Your welcome, it was written in 1970 so . . . it's dated and a understanding of Hollow Earth would help as I suspect the 'aliens' in the book are just humans that live there and serve as our wardens and keep us from blowing ourselves up!

Since you have been so kind to give us a picture of you (not hard to look at) I feel that I should give you a pic of me . . . permission to do so?

I was incredible naive until I had a spiritual awakening of the educational variety (AA), followed by an educational awakening of the spiritual variety (college).

Learning a new way to live allowed me to keep an open mind on ALL subjects especially the ones I 'thought' I knew and reexamine them. I began my journey down the Rabbit Hole of knowledge by exploring 9/11 and the Pyramids.

Now 9/11 is a trivial topic to me, but the Pyramids I still find fascinating. This lead me to the Piri Reis map, Juan Moricz and a wide variety of topics, including the concept that our planet is Hollow with life beginning on the inside. That when Adam & Eve got kicked out of the Garden, they actually were banished to the surface where we currently live.

I'm now currently researching Nibiru or Planet X as NASA calls it and the Polar Shift.

If your really interested visit and read some of my Hubs, try to keep an open mind on all things big and small and practice patience and tolerance of all the many views out there.

I caution you though when you go down the Rabbit Hole and begin to explore the true nature of our existence and the planet we live on, you may find that it will change you in ways that you never expected.

You won't be the same person and there is no way to go back, however the view is worth it!

Rule By Secrecy by Jim Marrs is a good book to start with if you want to find out why America is insane . . .

Hi Bec, I could not agree more. Thank you for commenting!

Somethgblue, I didn't know any of the things you wrote here and I'm disgusted but not at the least surprised. I've been learning a lot lately about the media and our government. I always had hope for our government but in the last ten years, I can honestly say I don't trust anything they tell us anymore. Thanks for commenting.

In 1995 the US Supreme Court ruled that TV News Stations were not required to report the TRUTH to the American people, not one TV News Station covered the story. My Father is a State Judge and had never heard of that law, he does now!

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 Hurricane Erin (size of Katrina) was 75 miles off the coast of Long Island, NY and closing fast only one station in Ohio reported this story?

In July of 2001 Osama Bin Laden was in an American Hospital in Dubai being treated by American doctors, this was widely reported in Europe, not one American News Agency covered the story?

I sold my TV five years ago and the way it has changed my life is incredible!

America has been conditioned since grade school to believe lies and embrace disinformation, obviously it is working.

Your naivety is amazing, but it seems that perhaps you're beginning to wake up, good for you . . . do more research and you too will be stunned!

"He will give them games, and they will love him for it"~Gliadiator. History repeats it self and all great empires seem to have fallen at some point. America should spend a bit more time concentrating on World History. The media has created just what they wanted to in order to control the masses.

A great read with good points. Media does not know what good journalism is anymore. They have forgotten they were suppose to be nuetral. I do not care what station you like or watch, they all give their opinion. Thats part of why there are such pointless debates here on hubpages. One writes an article, some are based on facts, most are someones opinion. The responses ensue, mostly name calling from someone who does not agree with the writer. They spew hate, never gining facts to back their response. And why not, they take their cue from media and our leaders. Name me the last time the lawmakers agreed on anything?

Mr. Happy. There is a reason you had a hard time remembering Biden but had no problem remembering Cheney. At least Cheney worked and tried to accomplish things as VP, we may not agree with him but he tried. And of course there is the gun thing LOL. But what has Biden done, nothing except say a few silly things to the media.

Hehe, thanks for the laugh Mrs. Martin. "BFF" is new to me, if it's not too foul do explain please. I'm just curious.

I do think about the parents though - is there a role that they play anymore?

P.S. I paused for second thinking to myself: who doesn't know ... what's his name, the vice-president, damn! I got scared when the only name that came to mind was Dick Cheney. What a nightmare ... Joe Bidden just wasn't coming for a minute or so, terrible.

Good hub. When "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" came to the US from the UK, they had to adjust the questions as most people here could not answer them. As a college instructor I can attest to the lack of liberal arts ed in many students and their inability to conduct a conversation of any meaning. It seems most people choose not to think for themselves.....because they have been trained to regurgitate information in schools. With this dumbing down we see foolish "reality" shows that are not real at all, or else if they are ie: Jersey Shore...they show how really really dumb we all are. When people do not even know the name of the Vice President of their country, or how to spell words that they should have learned in 4th grade, we know we are in decline. And with cursive writing also being stripped of importance in the classroom we will all return to caveman status.

I just read another hub, which should relate directly to yours:

10 Manipulation Strategies that Political Leaders and the media use to Control you and how to Protect yourself. by message17

Noam Chomsky gives some good background to understand the tricks, media and politics are playing.

      Great hub and great comments.

Hi Fossillady! I hope you're right and these shows don't last forever and people on those shows stop getting so much attention. I appreciate your kind words! Thank you so much for commenting! :)

Hello Amymarie, nobody would ever think you are stupid! Some of the crazy tv shows appeal to the kids, thank goodness they won't last forever. You make some very good points. I like your spirit!!!

Hi H.Schneider, I appreciate you commenting. I agree that Americans need to come together and find solutions to all the problems in this country. We also need to stop fighting over who's right whether it's the Right or the Left. We are all in this country together facing the same crisis. We can start by turning off the TV.

Hi Lucky Cats, I really do think it's an attempt to divert attention. Just like Wag the Dog. People are obsessed with reality tv and when we aren't watching television, we are fighting over far-fetched rumors about the president (more gossip). We need to end these wars and bring jobs back. Those should be our first priorities. Thanks for commenting. As always, you leave great comments and it is appreciated!

I think you're on to something, amymarie! "Wag the Dog." Divert attention to some innane, meaningless thing so that the populace is not paying attention to the more important issues. Dumbing down, for sure! I can't believe all the absolutely ridiculous, silly, disgusting and ignorant stuff being produced right now..totally dumb, stupid, aggressive, ego oriented...useless! We seem, as a society, to be attracted to things with no meaning, no depth and no reason...why, I couldn't say. You've written a very insightful and informative hub; one which causes the reader to think...and that is what we, Americans, need to start doing a whole lot more of! Thank you! UP and USEFUL!!

I totally agree with you AmyMarie. We have so many critical issues in this country and we just watch reality shows. Which are of course unreal. Now we are going to turn to a total self-promoting reality star, Donald Cobover Trump. I sometimes wonder what this country is coming to. Let's just get down to debating and solving America's problems. Donald, you're fired.

The Roman Empire came-up with the Gladiator games ... people were given bread and entertainment - it worked for a long time.

The United States Empire offers reality TV shows, Ultimate Fighting Championships and sometimes bread ... keeping people hypnotized through the stupid box has worked amazingly since its invention.

      Great blog!
