Where to Find Eco-Friendly Bags

Updated on September 11, 2014

Making Reusable Chic

Do you want to help out the environment but are so tired of providing free advertising for your grocery or department store? Then you have come to the right place.

Here is a selection of retailers that offer chic, clever or simply pretty alternatives to the average reusable bag.

If you actually like your reusable bags you will probably be more likely to make sure they are with you.

See Through Bag

This Montreal based company offers reusable shopping totes, mesh produce bags, bulk bags, and the classic string bags.

They use sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo.

They offer individual bags and kits ranging from $5 to $60.

Visit Credobags for eco-friendly bags.

Cheap, cute and reusable...

These bags are fabulous looking and affordable! They are made from "rip stop nylon, a super durable long lasting fabric". $8 for one or less the more you buy.

When it wears out you can recycle it by sending it back to the company. I have over ten of these bags now in various colors/patterns and I constantly give them for gifts, well usually as gift wrapping (see video below).

The colors are vibrant and the bags are huge. I keep them in my purse for everyday non-grocery shopping but they are perfectly acceptable for grocery shopping -- (one bag can hold two bags of milk and a large container of yogurt or two full size packages of toilet tissue).

Visit Baggu for eco-friendly bags.

Lug has a wide assortment of reusable and water resistant bags with or without an attached outer pocket. Some are stylish totes and others conveniently compact when it is not in use.

My mother-in-law got this one as a gift and she loves it. And I have to say, every time I see it I covet it a bit. The color is gorgeous and it has a nice soft texture.

Lug bags come in a wide range of prices to suit many budgets.

I know of a great new online store to get Reusable Produce Bags. Its called , based in Australia. the brand is Ethical Produce Solutions. These bags are great because they are are drawstring and are really light weight and are made of a type of see-thru mesh so the cashier can see what you have inside.

Great post by the way - very informative

I always carry bags with me - a few totes in my trunk so I can never forget! I collect plastic shopping bags from friends and family and use them to make upcycled plarn (plastic yarn) bags that are great as a purse or a shopping tote! You can see examples on my lens:

@squid-janices7: I hear ya! I would never take my grocery bags into the mall. LOL I have a special set of Baggu bags just for there, I always get great compliments on them. And some of the mall stores offer a discount if you bring your bag. BONUS!

I'm all about going green so I love this lens! I never go grocery shopping without my 5 reusable totes in hand so no more wasting paper or plastic bags. I need to get a couple more fashionable bags so that I can take them to the mall too (my grocery totes would be a bit embarrassing).

A very nice collection of great bags. It sure is a good idea to use bags for everything, and save on the environment. I love my canvas bag with a tipi on it and use it all the time.

@julieannbrady: I hear ya! It's my dream to have a walk in closet the size of a spare room (and a sunroom, media room, outdoor shed.... dreams are endless). LOL

      julieannbrady 7 years ago

SO SO many bags ... what's an eco-friendly bag like me to do about it all? My closet(s) are overflowing with bags of all kinds ... in fact, the eco-friendly ones were part of the huge donation of inventory I made several months ago to my pet charity of FCNMHP. Can we talk? We ladies need bigger closets! ;)

I love this! We always take reusable bags with us whenever we go shopping. If we just need a couple of things, we just say "no bag, thanks." The bags you feature are way prettier than the ones we use, though:)

Those are some cute bags, though I don't personally mind providing free advertising for Trader Joe's, PCC, Whole Foods, and the like, since I enjoy shopping at those stores. I probably wouldn't buy a Fred Meyer's reusable bag though (do they even offer them?), heh.

Wonderful lens. I added a tip about keeping them in your vehicle. Plus, I have two great bags that fold up and zip and I keep them in my purse, always. Five stars and I'm lensrolling it, too.
