Election 2010 The Debate | An Independent Voters View

Updated on September 27, 2010

Featured Hubbers

The 2010 Mid-term elections are only 36 days away. With the release of the Republican Parties “Pledge to America” the political debate has begun in earnest. I think it might be instructive to highlight some of the political opinions put out here at Hub Pages, so I will be publishing every couple of days links to what I see as hubs from all sides that bring the debate up front and I’ll of course give my thoughts on the issue at hand along with links to the Hubbers mentioned.

My plan is to highlight two fellow hubbers primarily and occasionally add one or two others that seem to make some valid points even if I think some of their other views may be extreme even for the rightest of right or leftist of left. My primary hubbers are BreakfastPop, LRCBlogger, and to kick things off I’ve added MikeNV to the mix for his views on the economy, the Federal Reserve, and others. Let me be clear I do not necessarily subscribe or agree with the views of any one of them completely but I do take the time to read and learn while I develop my own thoughts on things.

I think that we have to look hard at our candidates locally, regionally, and nationally with an eye of who is likely to lead from value focused principals that may not match up identically with mine but will in the end make decisions on legislation that are consistent with the guiding principles in the Constitution and what is right for our country.

I further look to see how ‘upfront’ with the voters has an incumbent been about legislation passed and how it was passed. I am particularly tired of the underhanded ways legislation moves forward and particularly so when it is not read before a vote is cast.

So with the baseline having been drawn here are some of their past hubs that I think may help you get to know them, also some of mine that may give you a peek through my own twisted lens. Hope we learn some things together this next month or so and when we cast our votes we do so for the individual we think will do the best job for our country.

One of the reasons I choose folks to highlight is that they tend to keep things civil in thier hubs and comments. Please do so here, and on November 2nd VOTE!

A nice 'hub' to the rest of it... :) Sorry, couldn't resist. As for the issue of the midterms, I can only say that we're going to have to act a bit differently as Americans this time around. We'll send some new faces to Washington, that's for sure. BUT it's time we hold ALL of them accountable. We need to make it clear that they have one term to get it right. One. If they do not, they will not stay because we will vote them out. Being complacent Americans who simply vote the party or the status quo is no longer acceptable. Allowing ineffective politicians to hold their seats for 30+ years is no longer acceptable. Partisanship is ineffective and no longer acceptable. We've got a TON of work ahead of us, and none of it will get done if we're not paying attention to who's doing it—or not doing it for that matter. None of it will get done if BOTH sides cannot effectively communicate and discuss the issues and be willing to compromise on the solutions.

It's we the people, not we the Congress, and so if you cannot be on my side, you have no business being my representative is the message I want to make loud and clear to these guys. As Americans we should ALL make this loud and clear.

hmrjmr, This is an interesting contrast of views. I must admit I read POP everyday and lean more toward her side of the political view, but it is good to have contrast. And, I do believe in free speech for all. I think this is a good hub because it will make us all think a little deeper. Thanks.

Hammer, you have picked two worthy adversaries. I have disagreed with LRC at his place and kept it civil and been treated fairly, and BreakfastPop and I are generally on the same page, I have to say she has kept it civil with her opponents, as for MikeNV, I look forward to getting his views as I have not been exposed to him at all as of yet. Then there is this Hmrjmr1 guy and he is a total hind end! HA! I am kidding all you all, he is a 100 watt bulb in a dark room and I've respect for him and look forward to this adventure that he has set before us, it should be interesting as we move along! He should have added a total ass to the mix though, just to keep it off balance, so I'll be forced to try and fill those shoes, hehehe, let us get informed her for the elections that are coming and make good choices that are based on good information so we can do the right thing for all. I'll be setting up XXX lightening powered Bloody Marys at the Inn so drop by for a good time, 50

Hmrjmr thanks. I love BPopneedless to say. And while I am probably the polar oppisite of LRC at least you can disagree with him without either party being rude. And at least his commentary is intelligent. Mike NV does know his stuff though and I do not always see eye to eye.
