Fame, How Does it Work?
Images of Fame
Fame is the elixir of success.
Many have heard of the 1975 song which was sung by the rock legend, David Bowie, titled by no other name but “FAME.” Of all the buzz words fame definitely ranks up there with “money,” “sex,” and let us not forget “success.” For many fame is the essence of success, it is the fuel that brings about success, money and sex. Although, according to the Bowie’s song, a song written and sung by a man, who has had his fair share of fame says the following in this unforgettable song: “Fame, what you like is in the limo, Fame, what you get is no tomorrow, Fame, what you need you have to borrow.” Very true, here you have the dream of masses and yet it doesn’t promise a future or even getting by on originality. Despite not being a solid investment, ask any teenager what their fondest wish is. They are very likely to tell you that being famous is definitely a hope of theirs. Fame is what motivates many of them to start their first garage band. It is this ideal that motivates many girls to get plastic surgery in hopes of beginning a modeling career. The question on most people’s mind is “Fame, how does it work?
Fame begins with building a reputation. You have heard the saying, it is better to have bad press than no press. There is a truth to this. As humiliating as it must be for some celebrities, even a headline that states that they did something outrageous does keep that person in the public eye. For example about two and half years ago, Brittany Spears had the most embarrassing articles being written about her. Every possible evil that could be written about someone seemed to be connected with Brittany. On one hand, it wasn’t easy on her. She even ended up in the hospital and lost custody of her children. As far as being famous is concerned she wasn’t doing badly at all. Everyone still knows who Brittany Spears is. Of course it is better to have a well proclaimed reputation for outstanding work, than for having a disastrous personal life. When your livelihood, however, depends on people remembering who you are, silence is the worse thing that can happen to you. You are even better of having Brittany Spear's type of press than no press at all.
Fame builds on it self. It begins with the first success. For example, among our own circle of Hubbers, there are elite Hubbers, and then there are the rest of us. The elite Hubbers began their journey like the rest of us. Writing like mad, and hoping that one of their articles will be one of the chosen few. They then in time, they discovered how to do word alchemy, meaning they turned their words into money. They wrote that article that got them that magical hub score, bringing in many followers, and before you knew it, that writer is now an elite Hubber. Once they have entered into this elite circle of writers, it is now easier to get followers, and readers for their articles. Another words, their success builds on itself. Success is the back bone of fame. Fame is the essence of success. You can’t have one without the other.
You are probably wondering if I have figured out what this word alchemy is. I will be honest with you. I am still writing like mad, and hoping to get there myself. I know that elite Hubbers pride themselves on quality work. They take extra care to find out what themes to write about. These are the people who bother with research. They present their work in a format that is easy to read, and interesting. They were not just handed their success, by the success fairy, they are very good writers, and they work hard at their craft. They also take the trouble of finding out what readers want to read. They are usually excellent net workers, after all, no man is an island. Therefore, quality precedes reputation, you must have quality. In order to have quality you have to be knowledgeable about the topic you are writing about. The more well versed you are, the better the quality is likely to be.
The next thing that elite Hubbers possess is persistence. They are the kind of people who keep on writing, and they do not let failures stop them from writing another article. They learn from their set backs, and make great comebacks. They will try different avenues until they find their niche. Once they have found their niche they develop it. They become an expert on that topic. This then creates a reputation. People start to associate that person with being in the know on that particular subject. This is where one starts to have followers, and before you know it you are among the best.
Last but not least fame is also a product of fortuitous timing. As it says in Ecclesiastes 9:11 “I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.”
Even in the Bible it is written that success is often a matter of timing. Then there’s that proverb stated by many that says “By being at the right place at the right time.” There you have it; a very interesting combination is needed to achieve fame. A quality product, presented at the right moment. Timing is an element that cannot be controlled, and is kind of cruel at times. For example, Van Gogh was very poor and unknown during his own lifetime. At our present day, Van Gogh's paintings are worth millions, and often even reproduced on greeting cards. The same goes for many painters, writers and musicians. So in a sense, Van Gogh did become famous, but he never got to enjoy any of it. Like it says in the song “Fame", "what you get is no tomorrow.” So what ever you do, whether it be writing, playing an instrument, or creating a beautiful work of art, do it because you genuinely love what you do. Make sure, that your endeavors are their own reward. I read a book many years ago that was titled “Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow.” So have fun, and enjoy being a Hubber. You will always feel like you are one of the elite, no matter where you rank.
