Free Nation

Updated on April 30, 2012

How about this kids? Are things getting clearer?

One nation under God with liberty and justice for all.

Ever heard the term, its a free country? Ever reply, What's so free about it?

That term has been a source of derision and conversation for as long as I can remember. I saw my parents roll their eyes and shake their heads and say, "Nothing is free in this country!"

Hard work once defined Americans as a whole but lately those rising to the surface have not done so due to any hard work. Not the sort of hard work you and i think of. Due diligence and insider trading can get you rich, but you will need a pretty penny to start with if you really want to get anywhere with that. So, looking at those silver spooners, who are living high off the hog because of inheritance or inside trading, I often wonder why them and not me? The answer is simple enough that it comes down to whom my parents were and how I was raised, added to the situational modifiers that occur in all of our lives that adjust our actions and thinking as we grow.

Still, like most Americans I still wonder, why not me? When you are wealthy or like a friend of mine an only child who was ushered forth in life complete with directions and a manual it must be hard to understand what the rest of the people in this country go through. This is the main reason I despise all politicians and the system they've learned to exploit. I truly do not believe any politician has my best interest in mind, but they keep taking my tax money whether I agree or disagree.

I have trolled around hubpages and encountered political extremists, naysayers and filibustering propaganda whores. All of them spouting venom about the economy and Obama and the war, among other things. These folks seem to be very similar to the senate to me. For the past four years there have been a lot of, "No, we do not agree, we vote no!" To everything Obama tries to do and then they go on media implemented attacks against the president.

Rather than bothering to spend their time productively, which is our time since we are paying for them to sit around and do nothing but filibuster, they sit around and complain like spoiled babies. The republicans had eight friggin' years folks, eight, and what did they do with that time? Then they get it all taken away and they do nothing but kick and scream the whole time. Well, I for one have had enough.

When are we as a nation going to take a stand against the suits we put in office? You know what would solve this issue? I figured it out last night in a dream. The thing with politicians, doctors and teachers/school officials nowadays is that too many take on that line of work because they want to make more money than the rest of us. Not because of any altruistic beliefs about serving their country or saving lives, no. That went out with black and white television. Are there exceptions? Sure, and I applaud those exceptions but at the same time until those people stand up for what's right they will remain lumped in with the rest of the rich and greedy.

My solution is simple. Take money out of the equation. Easy. Want to become Governor? Great, we'll put you up in the Governor's mansion, take care of you and your family while you serve and when your term is finsihed have a nice life, don't let the door hit you on the ass. No pension for the rest of your life. Yes, didn't you hear? All government officials get a lifelong pension for their already overblown salary for the rest of their natural lives! Yep, rich getting even richer. Rich being set up for life by simply getting elected for one term. Yep, how does that make you feel? Do you know how hard it is to get a job today that provides a pension?

Police officers deserve pensions. Anyone who works at a job longer than twenty five years or so deserves a pension. Some rich fat ass who sat in a plush office, lived in a plush mansion for a few easy years of living and worked only a few years does not deserve a pension. This pension nonsense to government officials is what happened to our social security savings!

The economy and jobs are among the big issues in our country. People are getting screwed over by longtime employers left and right but the guys in suits will never have that problem. They will never know what that is like. Once they become a politician they have been set up for life and they never have to worry about another thing AGAIN! What the hell? Am i the only one seeing the problem here? These are the same diabolical jackasses who we are expecting to fix our problems, not their problems because guess what? They don't have ANY PROBLEMS so of course they feel no urgency to fix them. They get their several weeks vacation on our dime and they will go back to being wealthy people once they are done! They cannot be relied upon or trusted to do the right things! They Cannot!

So, back to the money thing. Take the money away. Stop acting like giving a teacher more money would make them a better teacher. You know what would make someone a better teacher? A heart. Actually caring about students learning and the betterment of our nation through learning. Money does not do that. It is not my responsibilty to pay for someone's extra house or whatever toys they have gathered in their driveway. You want to incur debt then pay for it but don't ask the taxpayers for more money just so you can live like a Rockefeller!

The average income in this country is 29,000 a year per person. So if most of us are living on that why the hell is it so important that the politicians, doctors and teachers make so much friggin more than the rest of us? I do not get it. Perhaps someone can explain it to me.

Some may say that doctors need to get as much money as they can so they can afford lawyers to defend themselves against lawsuits and the like. I bet if you took money out of the equation doctors would get better, not worse. The money grubbers would be forced elsewhere to become wealthy so those who actually care about people would be allowed back into the profession. What if the government helped people with their schooling with more lenient loan recovery and made it less imperative that doctors make as much money as possible as fast as possible. Its always the system, folks. Always. The system is built to make people want more. So while a person is praying the doctor will save them the doctor is praying he does not get sued. This is not productive. This breeds mistakes and costs lives.

Take money away from the equation. I don't know who the bright minded individual was who decided these professions should be the highest paid but I sincerely doubt they were taking human nature into consideration.

I think capitalism was great for building a country. Now that the country is built however, I believe it has become a detriment to our progression. Instead of building up it is tearing down. Instead of enabling a people it is rendering them immobile. Yes, I am speaking of the nation as a whole. I am taking the 99% into consideration, not the 1%. After all, this country was founded on the majority rules over the rest idea. That's democracy, folks. Why isn't that happening now then? Why are the rich getting everything handed to them while the majority are getting shafted?

Take money out of the equation. Free this nation from these monetary bonds. Thousands of laws are invented by the suits in Washington each year in their efforts to steal even more money out of your pockets. Money they lost because of poor decisions and pensions for the fat and wealthy. Take the money out of their hands and put it back into the country treasury. Let people of true compassion rise to the top and take the roles they were meant for. Let the greedy moneygrubbers work like the rest of us for their money.

These are the words of someone who is sick and tired of listening to rich people complain. Sick and tired of having to live like a poor person because rich people determine the cost of living with their exhorbitant and irresponsible spending practices. Sick and tired of having to look over my shoulder wondering when these greedy bastards are going to come and take everything I have away from me. Sick and tired of being unheard because I dont have the money to pay people to listen to me. Sick and tired of the mess created by the first idiot who went to a foreign country and decided it was our job to fix their problems when we have problems of our own that need fixing. They, the wealthy, created our problems. All of them. the rest of us have done nothing but go to work each day in an effort to provide for our families. We trusted them and they let us down time and time again.

I sincerely believe it is time to take this country back. Once upon a time some righteous men threw a boatload of tea into a harbor. I want to gather the military, storm Washington, and throw each and every suit out into the ocean. Then we burn down the entire place which is full of leeches who have been sucking the life out of our nation by holding their hands out and not doing anything for themselves. Yes, the same leeches who cluster around each and every one of our cities, waiting for a handout. Burn it all down! Only through extreme action will there ever be change.

Here's my economic stumulus plan: Move the nation's capitol to the middle of Kansas where it belongs!

You know what really gets me? You or I screw up at work and we're out of the door and lucky if our ex employer doesn't sue the ass off us.

Mr Big screws up really badly leaving lives devastated, companies in ruins and what does he get?

A stonking great golden handshake that would keep you or I for the rest of our lives never having to work again.

Tell me what is fair about that?

Damn right, we are their bosses and we have no power over them. How does that make any sense? Thanks for reading and commenting, John.

I, for one, am sick and tired of the greedy, sharklike B******* consistantly getting away with their criminiality. However, I have to admit that I'm also an eternal optimist, and, despite the toxic, political environment, in both your country, Barnsey, and mine, I feel that times are a changing. Gone are the days, certainly in the UK, when the gangsters can enjoy complete privacy and their "business" interests remain unexposed. The light is being shone on many of them, which is why, IMHO, they are trying to bring in legislation to control our on-line communications etc. They're feeling very threatened. And that pleases me. :)

THat's right, Hollie, the boiling point will arrive but the everyday citizen needs to realize it is the meek who shall inherit the Earth, not the Rich and Famous! Thanks for reading and the follow!

But the meek shall only inherit the Earth after the rich and famous have entirely screwed it up!

Right, John, we'll have to start over from the ground up but we wll have learned an important lesson.

Well, perhaps you, John and I, will become landowners in the future? We'll tell the surfs that if they want to go to heaven, they'll have to work hard for very little reward. I'm thinking Weber, the protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism.

If you don't mind I would prefer not to own any land. I would prefer the freedom to come and go as I please in a peaceful manner, thank you very much! Neither can I support brainwashing, lol! You're out of control, Hollie! We have to get past the first stage before we worry about re-education and the like!

The last place that money belongs is in politics, and yet money is now determining who gets elected, because as you say, you have to have it to get into politics. Therefore, campaign finance reform is one of the most important issues that we as a nation should be addressing. Interesting hub!

Now we get to the root of it, Barnsy

The 1% are laughing at us saying ethics and hard work are for the poor folks, keep them chasing after the carrot that they were never intended to obtain. Wile E. Coyote actually cathches the Road Runner, absolutely not, that would end the comedy, the show and bring the curtain down. The rich here are as beached whales, extolling their work effort, but in reality never having to wipe their own noses.

This is the issue of our times, when the idea and incentive to better oneself, which has been the foundation of American society and has allowed the nation to avoid revolutions found in other societies, is in danger of disappearing. Those affected will lash out in dispair. Is Thurston Howell ready for that?

Labor is under attack by the right and the right will not stop until workers are no more entitled to parity than a slave on the plantation. It is coming, stay tuned. Satan has got nothing on the evil people that plan to undermine life for the majority in order to take it all for themselves.

Ultimately, the struggle is between rich and poor, racial and political animosities are merely smokescreens to divert and confuse. The President is doing what he can to address the problem with a virtual wall of opposition from the GOP plutocrats. The plutocrats manipulate the vital issues of the day so as to make it appear that those that are trying to preserve the Capitalist system with the needed checks and balances are the bad guys.

Such is the evil genius of the rightwinger, lies, distortion without end.

      Great article Barnsey, thanks...

No, thank you for the enlightening and frighteningly true comment. Thurston, lol, will get a wake up call when he finds out desperation trumps casual disdain every time!

nice job, I agree with the definitive list of grievances, but I don't think we are at the point of extreme revolution....yet. While I hope that there can be a more peaceful resolution, I do believe that after more and more people are affected by the wealthy and their game of "who can have the most" the more of them will come to think that violent reaction is the only way. Well written work! Thanks!

Much appreciated, twaggoner! My hope is the wealthy see it coming and turn things around before it gets to that! If I shout from the highest mountain and the valleys below echo my words will the giants tremble in fear?
