I grew up in an age when a shooting in school was not a thought in anyone's mind. What has happened to the country that I love? America has become a country of gun violence like I never could have imagined. I remember back when my classmates were on the rifle team in school.

When the school shooting happened in Newton where young children lost their lives I was sure our Congress would do something to make sure this would never happen again. Congress failed us because of the power of the NRA. The NRA has given millions of dollars to our politicians to make sure that they would not support any legislation on gun control.

I was a hunter when I was young. I support the rights of hunters, guns for protection, people that like to shoot target practice. However, enough is enough. There has been school shooting after school shooting and our Congress keeps turning their heads the other way. I honestly don't know how they sleep at night. I guess they have no conscience.

The school shooting in Florida has risen up the young people like I have never seen and I hope they don't ever slack off. I am so proud of a young girl, I will call her a woman now, Emma Gonzalez. She gave the most emotional and powerful speech after the shooting that I have ever heard. She will go on to bigger and better things because she has the knowledge, the desire, and the emotion to accomplish many things.

I am so proud of her and the other students that are planning a march on Washington in March. I hope the president and Congress really listen. The NRA is just a small portion of the American people. There are many more of us that want to see something done. The NRA will be taken to their knees, because the vast majority of America is fed up.

Thank you for your comments, Linda and Peggy. Those students went through something that no one should witness. I hope they keep at it and don't give up. Students from other schools all need to band together. I pray that they can make some changes.

I agree with what Linda wrote. Those young people who have grown up with the possibility of school shootings will undoubtedly change the future. Good for them and about time something concrete will be done regarding this from happening again.

I'm impressed by the behaviour of some of the students, too. I think the leadership that they're showing is great. They could have a big influence on the future.
