Who is prejudice?

prej·u·dice

The word prejudice is a noun that means:

1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason

2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.

3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile behavior, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.

4. such attitudes considered collectively: The war against prejudice is never-ending.

5. damage or injury; detriment: a law that operated to the prejudice of the majority.

Even though we've abolished slavery, changed our country's way of thinking in how we treat those who have a different skin tone, ethnic background, pray in different manners and have varying opinions our country from political avenues for both state, city and town government inadvertently causes prejudice behavior in various levels.

Is it really necessary to ask a person's age, ethnicity when filling out job applications, medical records, hospital records, financial aid, requesting food stamps, fuel assistance, signing up for local children's sports team and school registrations. In a nutshell a form that you fill out asks for your race. I wonder if they realize that this within itself has created hostility in America. The Government even requires employers to make sure they achieve specific quota's based off the hiring of ethnicity, handicapped, mental health problems, medical issues and military service. In fact my company recently sent out a form that had to be completed to make sure they met the quota's outlined for each by the US Government. I am sure when God created the world he wanted us all to live in peace and harmony. As you can see that failed though, we have ourselves to blame because having free will however nice that is has created quite a few problems for humanity.

Did you ever notice that most high school's have allowed the students to create club's that have nothing to do with a higher education. There is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance, The Afro American Club, Irish Pride Club's, you get the gist. Our country has gotten over the line with their ideas as to what being Politically Correct means. They have gone so far overboard that even 4 and 5 year old children have been reprimanded, suspended and even expelled because of the obscure " no tolerance " rules set forth because teen agers and adults have made mistakes and ruined lives, making something as innocent as a hug against the law. What our the Federal & State Government should concentrate on should be the need to update school curriculum, making sure those students graduating from High School can read, write, count, add, subtract because I know there have been those they've pushed through instead of teaching. They should revamp the DSS system to make sure innocent lives aren't lost because the social workers are overworked and under paid. Then there's the Welfare system that allows Food Stamps to be used for beer, wine, name brand products when limiting what they are allowed to buy and how much the item cost should be taken into consideration. Imagine the amount of money they could save along with other families they could help if they only allowed the purchase of generic cereals. At Market Basket their name brand cereal is $1.99 for the most part and General Mills and Kellogg's goes for $2.50 and up.

Did you ever watch the news and here them make comments like " The alleged drunk driver" when reporting from an accident scene or relating what they consider accurate facts from their news desk. When there's been a robbery, murder, kidnapping, or such events do they ever refer to the perpetrator as a white man or white women. Why then do they deem it necessary to refer to other's in relation to their skin tone? What is their purpose?

I own a kindle and love reading romance novels yet I see some distributed as an African American romance, bi racial romance, ethnic romance and the list goes on, I must say though I've never read the description as a white romance. Is that really necessary? These type of situations distribute me because our social stature, local politics, government and social media find it necessary to make these type of comments, print those descriptions and post them on ever building social media we now can access on line.

Do any of these people realize that those are the reasons prejudice still exsists in our country. Let's just call each other man, women, child, young teen, young adult or how about just HUMAN because that's what we all are.

"Don't Laugh At Me": Sung by Mark Wills - Writer(s): Steve Seskin
Copyright: David Aaron Music, Sony/ATV Cross Keys Publishing

I'm a little boy with glasses The one they call the geek

A little girl who never smiles 'Cause I've got braces on my teeth

And I know how it feels To cry myself to sleep.

I'm that kid on every playground Who's always chosen last

A single teenage mother Tryin' to overcome my past

You don't have to be my friend Is it too much to ask?

[Chorus:] Don't laugh at me, don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me.

I'm the cripple on the corner You pass me on the street I wouldn't be out here beggin' If I had enough to eat And don't think that I don't notice That our eyes never meet.

I lost my wife and little boy. Someone crossed that yellow line. The day we laid 'em in the ground Is the day I lost my mind. Right now I'm down to holdin' This little cardboard sign.

[Chorus:] Don't laugh at me, don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me.

I'm fat, I'm thin, I'm short, I'm tall I'm deaf, I'm blind, hey aren't we all?

[Chorus:] Don't laugh at me, don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me. w are lyrics to a song that always make me stop and think.
