Gut Instincts

Updated on October 6, 2016

Introduction

Recent events in the news and on Wall street seems out of place. The media and our government officials and even polls tells us one thing and yet, our own experiences seems to point in a different direction. What are we to belief?

-Oct. 2016

A Few Examples

On the state of the economy:

  • Unemployment
  • Federal Reserve
  • National Debt
  • ACA

On world politics:

  • Iran
  • ISIS
  • North Korea
  • Climate Change

On Election 2016:

  • Trump
  • Clinton Scandals
  • Wikileaks
  • Polls

Details on Our Economy

The current official unemployment rate stands at 4.9%. The official CPI is +0.1%. Is this realistic? We all know someone who is out of work or looking for work. We also see the price of milk and eggs jump up. We know many millenials still living at home With their parents. We see the stock market rising to all time high and yet, our interest rate is near zero for 8 years. Every time the Federal Reserve even hint at raising the rate, the market hiccups.

Our federal debt keep rising to a record 20 trillion dollars. Meanwhile, we are subsidizing health insurance for 20 million people who can't afford to pay themselves. What is going on here?

Details on World Politics

Our country negotiated a nuclear deal with Iran. What did we get out of it? They got 150 billion dollars.

ISIS is increasing there strength and influence around the world. We are seeing regular terrorist acts all over. Refugees are at a high level trying to escape the chaos. What is the only super power doing?

North Korea is testing long range ballistic missiles. They already have nuclear weapons. What are we doing to offset this rogue nation? What is the UN doing?

Our current leaders believe climate change is the greatest threat to the world. Huh?

Details on Election 2016

The Trump phenomenon is new this election cycle. Why is he running and why is he even a viable candidate on the GOP side?

The Clintons are back again with their endless scandals. Why is she even a candidate? Doesn't the DNC have anyone else qualified?

Wilileaks has released many details from hacked emails. Will these revelations make a difference to the voters?

Finally, the polls tell us the election is very close. It also tells us, President Obama has a 55% approval. How can that be? If the President is that popular, and Hillary Clinton is claiming to be the 3rd Obama Administration, why is the election even close?

Polls are just a snapshot in time. They can be and often are wrong.

Summary

My gut instinct tells me that this year will be a Republican landslide, regardless of what the media and polls say. I guess we will find out in November.

That sounds like it a a good Trump slogan, after "hope and change" or now "make America great again" it should have been "Hope we can do better than this" lol

Both are deeply flawed candidates. Hope we can do better than this.

Compared to Hillary Trump is a conservative, compared to a conservative he is Hillary (lol, well pick one of the Hillarys, she has flip flopped so often she really isn't anything but whatever she pretends she can be to get a vote). Just look at this, these are examples of criticism of Hillary from the left:

      Previous opposition to marriage equality

Previous support for harmful welfare “reform”

Previous support for harmful 2001 bankruptcy bill

Support for harmful public education “reform,” including No Child Left Behind

      Support for private prison industry

Support for continued use of death penalty

Record of support for “free trade” agreements that encourage outsourcing of U.S. jobs

Opposition to a subsistence-level minimum wage

Opposition to aggressive re-regulation of Wall Street

Appearance of impropriety in accepting large speaking fees from financial corporations

Vote in favor of Authorization of Use of Military Force in Iraq

Vote in favor of continued use of cluster bombs overseas

Inadequate support for human rights, particularly in the Occupied Territories

      Close association with Henry Kissinger

Uncertain support for meaningful action against climate change

Doesn't sound like she is so left wing does it according to the left, but obviously she is a chameleon, but still Trump sounds more like the above Hillary that the left hates compared to a conservative.

Yes, I will take your bet. By the way, I am not a Trump or Hillary supporter. I am just calling it as I see it. I would prefer a true Conservative and a Constitutionalist as President. Guess I will have to wait another 4 years...

I don't know about a landslide, but I do agree that you can't decide who is going to win by relying on polls. American's are mad as hell and I believe that more of the same (Hillary) isn't going to cut it this time around, unless Trump blows it so bad---worse than ever, that is...that voters just give up.

Anyway, I predict that the race will be close and that Trump will win narrowly. Do we have a bet??

My gut instinct also tells me that this year will be a Republican landslide, regardless of what the media but not the polls say!

If that is true we will find out before November. As the presidential election nears polls become more accurate as they can't risk their credibility to shilling for any candidate. So we will have polls indicating that it is going to be a landslide before November 8th, if our guts are right.
