My Earnest Desire For A Better World

Updated on October 25, 2014

One World One Humanity! What a lovely idea! But is it too much to ask for? No, I don’t think so. Only if we start thinking big like this, we would be able to achieve at least a part of it. As Bill, who launched this mighty movement called H.O.W. with his powerful words, said that everyone of us should try and ‘make a difference’ by getting ‘involved’ and not simply turn away saying that it is not their problem.

What I wish for in this short span of life is a better world in all aspects. By trying to accomplish a few important things in this life, we may at least depart from this world with a little peace of mind about a world free from all the ills and evils rampant everywhere.

The Silent Sufferers

There are many people in this world including you and I who want a lot of changes to take place so as to make it a better place for everyone including innocent little children to live in. There are many social evils experienced by people but I would say that they are not as serious as those experienced by hapless children who are at the mercy of their elders.

My major concern is about the little children who are physically and sexually abused and harassed. What have they done to experience such atrocities at the hands of their own blood relatives or others whoever they may be, and be deprived of an enjoyable childhood?

Atrocious attack on innocent children

A couple of months ago, I was shocked by this incident that happened in a neighboring state. A 13-year old girl did not leave the school premises on a particular day. Her teacher saw that the girl looked upset and agitated and hesitant to leave. When she questioned her, the girl started crying and said that her father, brother and an uncle had been abusing her sexually for the last 2 years.

The school authorities immediately informed the police who arrested all the three men. Her brother, just fifteen years of age, has been put in a juvenile home and the other two in police custody. It is said that her mother had been unaware of such happenings. But medical reports have confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted. The father, a frequent visitor to the local prison for petty crimes, is a drunkard, reports say, and beat his wife every day in an inebriated condition.

In this case, whatever justification is given, it is the little girl who has lost her childhood that is a precious gift to children. There are much younger girls who are being sexually abused every day in some part of the world. Not only girls but boys too have been exposed to this abominable practice. In short, innocent little children have to brave a treacherous life in this bad and untrustworthy world. They turn to their parents for comfort, security and love but if those same elders betray them and ruin their life, what will they do? Who will they turn to for solace when they feel miserable?

Making a difference......

Why should this ever happen?

I keep asking myself and my friends all these questions over and over again sometimes to the point of irritating them because no one has any answer for them. I (and everyone who has a conscience should) feel morally responsible for these betrayed children whose private life does not come to light even though they may live in our neighborhood. They are either threatened with dire consequences if they were to reveal their miserable situation or they are too scared to divulge it to others for reasons best known only to them. They are after all little children who cannot make any judgments about their parents or other elders.

In one case I read about a fellow hubber abused by her own father from a very young age making her believe that what she was made to do was a very ‘normal’ thing. Poor child! My heart really goes out to these little children who are, instead of being cared for, subjected to torture at the hands of wild people unworthy of being called humans.

What can we do?

Let’s all join hands in eradicating this evil from the world. I call upon all the people to try and help bring this abominable and despicable practice of child abuse to an end so that children will have a peaceful and comfortable life in this world.

I dedicate this hub to Bill who started the H.O.W. movement and several other hubbers who have joined his group on Facebook and are part of his website.and who have committed themselves to the noble cause of humanity by contributing their mighty writing skills and participating in the 365/365 challenge in order to make this world a better and safer place to live in. It’s high time we did something about safeguarding children from abuse and letting them have a peaceful childhood.

The H.O.W. Movement

H.O.W. is a movement that is the dream child of Bill Holland. It has a simple goal - to unite all humanity in seeking ways to unite all peoples across the world.

You are absolutely right Linda. Child abusers are cowards, no doubt. They are such perverts that I wonder if they would realize their wrong-doing even if they met with the worst of punishment. They are not human beings at all. News of child abuse torments me for a very long time. When will this deadly evil end in the world? Or will it pollute the world and threaten our children for as long as there is life on this planet? I want this evil to be eradicated like so many diseases this world has faced in the past. Sadly, I doubt it.

Any person who harms a child in any way is not only mean but also a coward. Our children are defenseless and count on adults to lean on and learn from, not to be abused. Shame on the cowards of the world. May bad karma find each of them and make their lives the most miserable known to mankind. I take child abuse very seriously, can you tell?

Thank you Dwachira for your input and share. Though we cannot wait for the world to change, wonder how this change is really going to come about because it is in our own hands to bring it on. Let's hope for the best. Cheers, Rema.

      Hi remaniki,

It is disheartening what society has become today, abuse of children and taking advantage of their innocence. We need to re-evaluate our bearing again especially on society, social and ethics. Voted up and shared.

You are absolutely right healthylife. I feel exactly the same as you do- like a mother to all the children whoever is in trouble or who needs help.

I too used to feel hesitant to talk about this sensitive issue but not anymore. The anger that this unpardonable crime has given rise to, has made it sort of compulsory to openly discuss it so that awareness as you rightly mentioned is created among the general public.

I am so happy to find like minded people in this wonderful community.

Thanks for your valuable input. Cheers, Rema.

Thank you for writing about a subject that so many are uncomfortable discussing and find it easier to not face it. Awareness is the first step toward change. As a mother I feel like I am a mother to all children and feel the need to help and protect any child in a bad situation. Voted up and shared!

Writing about such things has become a necessity even though many of us wouldn't want to write about them because it would make us very angry and depressed. I cannot tolerate any reasons given for such crimes and want the evil doers brought to book and punished severely so that in future we can hope to expect a decrease in such crimes.

Yes, let's keep reminding each other about our responsibilities and work towards bringing a change.

Thank you ps for the input. Cheers, Rema.

Very true Winston. The current situation is so bad that something solid needs to be done to protect our innocent little children from the monsters in the human form. My heart goes out to the little ones for the suffering they undergo in this bad bad world and for no fault of theirs.

Thank you very much for participating in this discussion Winston. I wish you a very Happy New Year too! Cheers, Rema.

Thank you for sharing your conviction on making a difference with us. It is about of us at a time, caring enough to do what you have done...Writing about the horrid things that happen and reminding each of us that it is our problem and that we can help bring about change is powerful.

Sending Angels your way :) ps

Happy New Year Rema, and thanks for sharing a heartfelt hub. Gone were the days when it was everyone's job to raise our children. What we are currently witnessing today, is an upsurge of violence and unprecedented attacks on our innocent and helpless children. Lawmakers need to turn their heads and face this problem, instead of turning their heads to the other side! It's really a sad situation!

Very true unknown spy. It is indeed sad that things beyond our control do happen and we are mute spectators to them.

Let's keep hoping that something happens to change the whole world to bring solace to the society especially our sweet little children.

      Thanks for visiting. Cheers, Rema.

      Hi bravewarrior,

Yes, you are right. We have to do this so that more awareness is created as such incidents come to light. As punishments to such despicable acts become more stringent, maybe the criminal act will decrease. Though we talk so much about this, I am not sure how a favorable result can be achieved so as to make little children's lives safer. Hope, hope and hope..........

Thank you very much for your input. Cheers, Rema.

Rema, the issue of child abuse is far out of hand. Especially, when it's trusted family members who commit the atrocious acts! I think the only way we can stop it is to make sure it's reported whenever the situation is made known. We also need to let our children know that it is imperative that they 'tell', even tho the abuser threatens them if they do!

      Hi Chris,

I totally agree with your opinion. We can only hope that people will pay attention to what we have to say and think about what can be done to prevent such evils from happening. Let's feel optimistic and positive that something will really be done about it.

We'll have to think of other ways too to spread the word. Now that H.O.W. movement is launched, let's firmly believe that it will gain momentum over the next few days, weeks and months and we can chalk out a few specific plans to improve the situation.

Keeping fingers crossed. Thank you very much for the participation. Cheers, Rema.

      Hi Sueswan,

Thank you very much for the valuable input to this hub. Whenever such events become public and I get to know of them, I become very angry and literally a war begins within me making me depressed. Why should such unthinkable things happen? What gets into these beasts when they behave so cruelly to cute little children who are totally in the dark about what is happening? I mean, I just cannot accept any explanation or hypotheses that such and such could have triggered this behavior etc.

Explanation or reasons? B.S. I would say. We should not be talking about punishing the culprits in a certain way when actually, our sole objective should be to eradicate such an illness among the evil doers. But how? I simply don't understand.

I only hope that people would become aware of these evils and protect their children from falling prey to such animal behavior from the other so-called 'humans'. Let's hope to find a solution to this grave issue. Thanks again. Cheers, Rema.

      Hello Windtraveller,

You made a good point here. Yes, it is important that the people who have suffered/are still suffering from such traumatic experiences need to vent their feelings and be acknowledged thus making their life a little better though it may not give any immediate solution.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Cheers, Rema.

    • remaniki profile image

True Janine, it does hurt to hear about such pathetic events but neither have we been able to turn a blind eye to them nor do anything about them. We cannot find a solution to such issues in our individual capacities but as a large community we certainly can. Let's hope and pray that such atrocious and heinous crimes are curbed altogether saving little children from being traumatized and ruining their life.

Thanks for the visit dear. Cheers, Rema.

      Hi Rema,

      A wonderful contribution to H.O.W.

No child should have to live in fear and be treated as his/her life is worthless. We need to protect the children. I am tired of hearing excuses for the abusers that they were abused too so it is not their fault. The cycle of abuse needs to be broken!

I remember a friend from high school who put up with beatings from her ex husband. Then one day, he hit their daughter. It was the only time because my friend left him.

      Voted up and sharing
