Society expects it; but....

Humility doesn't mean to

lie down and be trampled

underfoot by family,

friends or anybody.

Show respect to others,

expecting them to return

the gesture. If not, then they

don't deserve good manners.

Politeness is civil, but it has

no obligation of any kind

to strictly stick to it, in order

to be sociable or even friendly.

Just do your best to get the

right response from others.

That is actually the only

demand by society on anyone.

In other words, don't humble

yourself to attract friendship.

People will like you, whether

being brash or introverted.

Your own behavior will

introduce you to those around

you (family), and the people you

meet, frequently or at random.
