Things to give to an Orphanage- What the children need

Updated on December 18, 2015

Things to give to an orphanage

Are you wanting to know what thingsare reccomended to give to an orphanage to make their lives easier and more pleasant? What the children really need besides love & attention?

I have always wanted to go and help in an orphanage somewhere in a foreign land where I have never been. To make even a little bit of difference to the children's lives and show them that that people really do care for them.

When visiting a market in Perth recently I came across a stand that I hadn't seen before & the lady said all the money raised was going to an orphanage in Bali.

I promised her I would do an article ( hub ) about them for her to raise awareness.

I have never been to Bali & it is cheaper from here than anywhere else especially now.

Maybe just maybe if I can come up with the $800 airfare we can go help out there, spend some time with the children

Take clothes etc over to the children.

I really want to do it & am going to organise a fundraiser to help get them things.

There are 7 orphanages in Bali with the Bumi Sehat organisation.

83 kids + no washer and dryer = Sainthood

Can we help them get a washing machine & dryer ?
Can we help them get a washing machine & dryer ?

About the Jodie O'Shea Orphanage

Like most things in life, implementing the decision to open an orphanage in memory of Jodie O'Shea, did not happen overnight. In the aftermath of the Bali bombing on October 12, 2002, many people wanted to contribute in some way to create a future of opportunities for those who had very little. A compassionate and determined group of people combined their resources to improve the lives of children here in Bali. We extend our heartfelt thanks to those people for their commitment - their support enabled building to commence in March 2005 and we opened our doors four months later.

We have over forty children ranging in ages from 2 to 18 years. Of these children, some are from Sumba, a very poor and arid island to the east of Bali, some are from Bali, and few of them are from another island of Indonesia.

Since moving to their new home, these children have undergone an amazing transformation. Prior to coming to the orphanage, all of them had grown up malnourished in poverty stricken areas, usually within one parent families, surviving on a meagre hand to mouth existence.

Today, however, in their new home our children are embracing a life they have never known - a healthy diet, an education, being nurtured and cared for and having the freedom to simply be children. Jodie with her beloved rescued dogs

It must be stressed, however, that all of the children's families love and care about them immensely but have had to make the difficult decision to send their children elsewhere so as to provide them with a better life and ultimately a better future.

This is a great hub. There are so many worthy causes, but none are more worthy than helping orphaned children or feeding the hungry. Thanks for sharing.

wonderful cause - I highly recommend getting involved with projects like this, I've done several. The biggest thing I learned though was that money is much easier to transport plus buying supplies within the country concerned helps their economy - just my opinion mind.

      good luck
