Hollywood and Politics; Then and Now

Ignore the in-my-face obvious issues and lend all of my attention to unwarranted, groundless non-issues? Not happening!

Ever hear of these guys?

At one time in America, these guys, the 'Rat Pack', were the cat’s meow!

They acted, they performed, they did stand up comedy, they sang. They would croon and the ladies would swoon; although they dominated in their chosen field, weren’t saintly by any means and certainly had political opinions, they had enough class to stay in their field!

They represented Hollywood well and during their heyday, they were the face of Vegas. These guys and other actors/performers of the time, managed to keep Hollywood's reputation intact.

If they hated the President of the United States, we didn't hear anything about it.

If they had extreme ideas or goals for changing the course of this Country, we didn’t know about it.

They managed to keep the lines drawn and not blurred and to keep separate things...separate.

So refreshing!

I wonder what, not just these guys, but others from the past, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart...would think of the Hollywood of today?

What would Bob Hope think?

In his spare time...he was honoring our troops. He did nearly 60 tours with the U.S.O., entertaining active duty American military and at Christmastime, you'd find him in Vietnam.

Today's 'rat’ pack

This is who and what we get today.

Many Hollywood-types reduced to activism; working hard, not at salvaging what is left of their struggling careers, but rather at taking down a man...not just any man, but the President of The United States of America.

No regard, whatsoever, for the lack of class being shown, nor their tacky brand of representation of their industry.

Perhaps they believe they are above it all...you know, superstars...in their own minds, above doing anything positive or unselfishly for others!

It's not just the fact that they'll bash and tear down this President and/or his family, and/or his staff/ supporters, at every opportunity; it's their demeanor, whether it's the hateful, potty-mouth of Robert De Niro, the wide-eyed shallowness of Alyssa Milano or the outright crudeness of Tom Arnold, Rosie O'Donnell, they've all lost it!

They've fallen off any Hollywood pedestal they may have once been on, straight into the political mud hole of muck and mire, that this President is so vigilantly attempting to rid us of....

Maybe the muck and mire, is exactly where they need to be...just in case, the President is as successful with this particular campaign promise; this endeavor, as he has been in all other areas, where he has kept his promises. Throw them all out, the bums in D.C. and the Hollywood bums {rats}

Impeachment task force

One member of today’s Hollywood 'Rat‘ Pack has really shocked me, Robert De Niro. I've always respected his acting, always thought he was one of the best in his field.

I don't know if he has always been this outspoken or as potty-mouthed (outside of the movies) or what may have happened to him, but his current behavior is reprehensible!

He is set for life and could not care any less about my opinion of him, I'm sure, but just like him, I also have opinions and I don't have to go into the gutter in order to express them.

I’ve been asking for some time now, what has happened to the Democratic Party? Now I’m asking, what has happened to Hollywood?

~~~
I’ve just heard the news, now all of Trump’s competition for 2020, including Joe Biden, has stated that Trump should be impeached!
How convenient that would be for all of them, huh?
A whole new concept of ‘clearing the field’, if the competition is successful, popular and seemingly unbeatable...wear the guy down, wear the Country down with constant threats of impeachment.
Keep it out there, in the headlines, in everyone’s face.
Whatever works to get him out of the way.
If it doesn’t work, make it up as you go along!
Get Hollywood involved.
There’s now an ‘impeachment task force’, made up of...you’ve guessed it, today’s Hollywood 'rat' pack. Oh yes; Alyssa, Rosie, Debra Messing, Tom Arnold, have meetings about finding new ways to rid America of the man the people have elected. The winner, fairly and squarely (if you don’t consider all of the cheating which takes place on the left) of the presidential election, how can they make him go away?
I don’t know if the always angry, foul-mouthed De Niro is a member of the task force....perhaps he’ll be called upon when they need some hate speech to inspire them and get them fired up, in order to keep them on task!
Not impressed
I rarely go to the movies.
Not impressed by much of what is shown on television these days.
Are Hollywood’s best days behind them?
That remains to be seen.
The who’s who and what’s what coming out of Hollywood today though...impresses me about as much as a root canal does.
~~~

The Impeachment Task Force numbers are on the rise, ‘the meathead’, Rob Reiner has now joined the team...in the whole scheme of things, sounds like a perfect fit.

      I'm sure there must be moments when he feels overwhelmed...

      I pray for him everyday.

      I hope you are right, but for the first time, I caught a glimpse of real sadness on his face once this week. It only lasted a moment, but it made me feel incredibly sad. Also, he is fired up, but he seems ti be playing defense instead of offense lately. I'm a little worried. Prayer for the president is needed now more than ever.

      Thanks for sharing this Yves.

      I agree with McGurn and Hanson, the unhinged left (which certainly includes Hollywood) is feverishly working to wear down our President and to wear us all down.

      But it isn't working, in fact, it is backfiring. I've never seen President Trump look as strong as he has the last two nights at different rallies. He is fired up! The people are fired up and many more are finally paying attention to what is actually going on.

      De Niro does look like a heart attack waiting to happen. No one wants to see that, he needs to calm down and take a walk in the forest! :)

      Good to hear from you.

      I hadn't heard of them.... "Trump Impeachment Task Force." They sound like the whiners on our Forums. All hot air and no substance. How pathetic.

      As for De Niro, he is unhinged. I feel sorry for those who have to work for him. The man is set to have a heart attack if he's not careful.

      The rage of the Left is real and destructive, however. In fact, all the rage combined throughout our nation has to take a toll on the president. He's only human and I worry.

      I've posted something I feel is important about Victor Davis Hanson's take on the situation. There is an annoying commercial in the middle of the show, but stick with it and you'll hear the rest of the broadcast or you can read the transcript below.

      A good article you've written here, AB. I no longer tune in to actors who denigrate Trump. So over them.....

      I did go to see Ad Astra (Brad Pitt) I loved it and thought Mr. Pitt did a great job in the lead role. My hubby thought it was just okay.

      Also, I want to see Downton Abbey in the theatre, on the big screen.

      It's harder and harder to even have a relevant box office hit. They're remaking old classics and the never before seen ones coming out don't stay in the theaters long anymore even if they are hits. Maybe that would change if the creativity came back to the big screen, but it seems to have moved to the streaming networks.

      That's it! No one is watching their Awards shows and the only news coming out of California these days is bad news; record poverty, unrealistic taxes, the working taxpayers leaving in droves, their looney left leaders getting loonier by the day, forest fires....What did I miss?

      If it's attention they seek, maybe its because Hollywood itself is becoming irrelevant.

      I agree Vivian that many are using this warped way to stay relevant...but it's not just De Niro...remember when Johnny Depp said, "it has been a while since an actor assassinated a President" ?!? That's just crazy, they've lost it!!

      I miss the glam and grand good ole days of Hollywood.

      I think the difference between the Rat Pack and most of the Hollywood people today ranting about Trump is that the Rat Pack was on top of the world. They were already popular and didn't need to grandstand to be noticed. The most vocal celebrities today, aside from DeNiro, are NOT popular. They are has-beens trying to get attention and become relevant again.

      I'm glad you wrote this piece because I hope a lot more people feel this way--actors should just act and provide entertainment for when we need an escape from harsh reality. We have scores of news networks (though most fake) to handle the political side of things.

      Thank you Paula, I've been writing less and less, hopefully, I can get back into the groove.

      You are right, they haven't an inkling of "our lives, how we feel, what we believe". I think they'll be in for a rude awakening and maybe come to understand the average American a little more come 2020.

      Wow, Angie..... Another great piece by you. I HAD to comment specifically on your DeNiro comment! I have repeated myself to my friends numerous times how some of my long-time favorite actors/celebrities have radically disappointed me....Robert DeNiro in particular. This is to the point, that I have done an about-face on him and a few others. There was an old movie on one night and as soon as his face appeared, I stopped watching the movie. He now makes me ill!

      Amen. ......... What is with these mega billionaires who have NO clue whatsoever as to how the average American lives, how we feel and what we believe?? Get off your damned golden high-horses and walk the trails as we do!..........Peace, Paula

      Amen Shan. You’ve inspired me to make a few changes. I’ve added a video of one of the most amazing, unselfish individuals that I can ever recall, who also happened to be, a Hollywood Star. Class act!

      No, I've not been to a concert in years either. But all of those examples you mention are exactly what I mean by worthy causes. Veterans deserve to be honored no matter what the political affiliation is because they didn't get to disobey orders when they didn't like the president in office. And there are stars who work with children's hospitals and cancer foundations. SO many other worthy things to use their fame to promote.

      I admire Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) he has done so much for our wounded warriors and in honoring all of our Defenders, whether veterans or first responders.

      Actors Mark Wahlberg, Mario Lopez, Dean Cain are very involved. Dean Cain has been involved in a project pairing service dogs with veterans returning from places such as Iran and Afghanistan. The late James Gandolfini (the Sopranos) was very involved in helping, there is now an award named after him.

      Country music stars like Trace Adkins, spokesman for the Wounded Warrior project, George Strait, Miranda Lambert all take time out to recognize veterans.

      Have you ever been to a Big-n-Rich Concert? They'll bring a veteran on stage and honor veterans every single concert they do. Toby Keith and Florida Georgia Line have donated all-terrain wheelchairs to wounded veterans.

      This is what impresses me!!! These are the real stars...not a bunch of spoiled rotten activist brats not liking how an election went and working to undo it, along with a corrupt Democratic Party!

      I agree with you. I haven't been to the movie theatre in I don't know how many years, but I still don't care for all the political activism coming from Hollywood. There are so many other worthy causes for these stars to get behind that would bring people together and unite groups. it's not just Hollywood, though. It's in the entertainment business in general. Makes me wonder sometimes why. I mean, I don't talk about my political opinions at work and in their line of work, it seems counterintuitive if the goal is to have as many fans as possible in order to continue making a living doing what they do.
