How YOU Can Help Stop Human Trafficking

Updated on June 25, 2016

The Reality of Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labor, sexual slavery, and sexual exploitation. It's generated revenue is over $7 billion annually since 2004. This is happening all over the world, even in the first world countries.

Victims include men, women, and children. Although traffickers tend to favor women and children as they're easier to manipulate.

Often we see a photo shared on facebook or the news showing victims being posed in hotel room. We cringe helpfully, wishing we could help them. Then we push that image to the back of our mind, often time forgetting about it.

What Can You Do To Stop It?

TrafficCam app give us the opportunity to help fight against human trafficking. How you ask? When we stay at a hotel or motel, we can snap some photos of the room we're in and send them to TraffckCam or their website traffickCam.org. The app was created when the police were able to solve a case because a staff member recognised the hotel room the victim was posed in.

How you can help:

  • Must give them your location
  • Submit up to four photos
  • Make sure the resolution is decent (not too bad, not too bright, or blurry)
  • Enter in the hotel/motel name and number.

As of today, TraffickCam has more than 1.5 million photos of hotel rooms. Police use the photos we submit to determine the location of the victim and start their investigation from there.

Instead of sharing our vacation photos to our friends and play Candy Crush on our phone, we can do much more to help fight these malicious activities.

Take Action

TraffickCam is available for download on the iphone, ipad, and android devices.

Remember to be a part of the solution when you head about on your next vacation.
