If you have some extra scrapbook supplies that you are not going to use, you may not know what to do with the items. Giving the scrapbooking supplies to charity is a great way to get rid of clutter while helping out someone in need at the same time.

Any type of charitable organization that helps people by giving them things like crafts projects is the type of organization that you can donate to. Hospitals, community centers and nursing homes are some of the non-profit organizations that can benefit from your scrapbooking supplies donation.

Where To Donate Your Scrapbook Supplies

There are national organizations, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, that are in need to scrapbook supply donations. If you prefer to donate to a local charity, you should have no problem locating those either.

For local organizations that need scrapbooking supplies as donations, check with your local hospitals, nursing homes, community centers, shelters and churches.

You may also find other charitable organizations in your area that accept scrapbook supply donations.

Another great place to check are local shelters, specifically women's shelters. You may discover that some of them have craft rooms and are eager to accept any craft like supplies that you may be able to donate to them.

How To Donate Scrapbook Supplies

To donate your scrapbooking supplies to a local charity, just take the items to a drop-off donation center. It is best if you can put all the supplies in a small box or bag for easy transport. This will not only help you carry all the items, but it also makes it easy for them to accept your items and easily arrange them with other donated items for the day.

With a national charity that does not have a location nearby, you may have to mail your donation to them. Look on the charity website if you are not sure how to get your donation to them.

Keep in mind that some charitable organizations, like hospitals, will not accept used items as donations. This is due to sanitary and health concerns. Before donating any used scrapbook supplies, check the policy of the charitable organization.

Can You Get A Tax Write-off For The Donation?

If you are donating the supplies to a charitable organization that is registered with the IRS as a non profit charity, then you may be eligible for a deduction on your federal income taxes.

To claim the donation on your taxes, you have to request a receipt for the donated items when you drop them off. Otherwise, you have no proof of the charitable contribution. Often, charities will ask you if you want a receipt for your donation. If not, you can request one.

It is a good idea to check in advance if the organization is registered charity with the IRS, which you can actually do on the IRS website for free.
