How To Make Money In Prison

Updated on August 29, 2009

First, may I say, prison is not a place you want to be. Prison is a place for the hunters and the hunted. Violence is a way of life. Rape is natural and is higher in prison than it is outside in the real world. More men get raped in prison than women do on the outside. Compared to the sexual assault rate, the amount of women raped is a fraction of how many men get raped in America. Its real facts.

Everyone needs a past time. It's a terrible place to be, a waste of life where people have to live a bad dream everyday they spend in there. Trapped inside brick walls, razor sharp fences, chain link fences, powerful lights spotting every movement, and vicious predators, its possible to take advantage of this situation. You may be able to make money in prison if you know what you are doing.

Making money in prison takes business skills, just as if you are on wall street. The only difference is that you are in constant danger and have to think ahead. If you are not smart enough, you might end up getting yourself killed. You have to have loyal people that you know will protect you while running your business in prison. I mean, what's the use of trying to make money if you are gonna get murdered?

Selling Drugs

Why not? You're already in prison for God knows how long, and you have nothing to lose really. Selling drugs can be done in and out of prison, whether you are on the inside or out in the free, God loving world of the free. People sell drugs in prison when they are locked up. This certifies that they can support themselves good. Money is power. The more money they have, the more power they will have. Its kind of like a video game, except for the real life danger. As your money grows, so do you.

The way people get drugs into prison is beyond me. Must have a lot of powerful connections. Once they get it into prison, some may hire workers to protect them and sell their products. Its a good way to keep yourself save and get a label for yourself in prison. This does not insure that you will be safe from all the others predators in the cage.

Offer Protection

Offering protection to those who are new to the prison is a great way to make money. People seeking protection and are in fear of their life will pay any amount of money to make sure they are safe and get to live another day. The prisons are the battlegrounds for horror and war. Without any proper training in the art of this terrible lifestyle, or the right connections, you're a walking bulls eye. That's why so many people are paying for protection and you can take your cut of this income.

Gambling is addictive. But what does a prisoner have to lose. Gambling could get you killed, so use with caution. Can't really tell you how to do it, but it is possible.

Prisoners send the money in a letter to there family. If caught it is considered contraband and could affect good time

what happens if an inmate is caught with money?

could it suspend their time or get them denied when they get their shot at parole?

I would say you are wrong. You can make money by splitting matches or rolling cigs.

Woah. Touchy subject. I won't get into the drug selling aspect of it, but this is certainly not something that I would want to do. I hope no one ever has to do this, as no one should have to go to jail. Thanks for sharing.

Drugs are brought in jail through a method called "hooping". There is no "nice" way of explaining this: the drugs are put in a condom and one shoves them up his/her ... you know what. There is no way of stopping the flow of drugs into jails when people are willing to go that far. Also there are guards who get paid-off to "look the other way". I never knew about the "protection" side to making money in jail ... theoretically, it makes sense.
