Let's go Back to the Future! Two names for next US Presidency seem all too familiar
Let's go Back to the Future!
If you read the current headlines, it seems increasingly likely that our next two contenders for the presidency will be Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush respectively. In other words, we are looking at a Clinton v Bush match-up. Does that dimly remind anyone of the past? For those of you it doesn't, let me treat you to a brief history lesson.
In 1992, George H.W Bush (Pop to George W. and Jed Bush) and Bill Clinton squared off in a political fight for the "title" of President. Their rivalry would write itself as the next chapter of "the grandest US political face-to-face's" and stretch out for over a decade long. As well as being two ruthless political operators, Bush senior and Bill Clinton helped drive crowds of people to follow US politics with great detail. As we all know from watching sports, there's nothing like a good rivalry and this entertainment was replicated at the political level; which, habitually, is regarded as serious and boring.
Today we are seeing signs of a Bush-Clinton revival; although, this time, between George sr's son and Bill's wife. Whether they will end up as official candidates is a matter of speculation, but it seems quite probable they will. Hillary Clinton has for a long time been summoned as a potential party leader, and, with obama stepping down and her recent public declaration that she was running, it would be foolish not to put your money on her. As for Jeb, his ascension to Governor is a process worth taking a look at, and, being inherently part of family who've bred not one but two! Presidents - his father and his brother -, you would be wise not to underestimate his seriousness or his ambition - his Bush genes in other words - to go all the way.
Let's hope round two of the Clinton v Bush will commence - and, for the sake of Americans, that they choose the right man - oops OR woman- for the job.
