I Am a Minority in the United States Of America
Morale was at an all time low and then, in like Flynn, came Ronald Wilson Reagan!
Once upon a time in America, there were gas lines and we would spend our evenings watching footage of blindfolded, captive Americans, as they were mocked and paraded through the streets, in a foreign land.
Morale was at an all time low!
We were witnessing a President, in over his head, becoming an expert, unfortunately, it was at wringing his hands!
He was at a loss, as to what to do next.....
In came Ronald Reagan, without hesitation as to what to do next, no time for hand wringing, it was all about getting the hostages, our fellow Americans, back home....and so he did!
He was not like anyone else.
He wasn't buying that our best days were over and behind us...
he believed that America was still great, America never ceased...being great!
He did not spew scripted words.
He spoke encouraging words, which he believed in!
I started to get engaged.
I was intrigued by this man.
I began to truly understand that we were not a lost cause.
Our best days were not behind us!
We were still the greatest Country that God gave man.
I started hearing the word 'conservative'. Of course, many had a problem with it, with him, but as for me, conservatism and what Ronald Reagan represented, had me...all in!
After all, as a teenager, I was witnessing, first hand, the opposite of conservatism....I was witnessing, liberalism/socialism/progressivism...in action and it was inconvenient, unpleasant and ugly!
I was young, I had a life to live and I was spending it in long gas lines, only allowed to purchase a few gallons of costly gasoline at a time, making sure that my allotted supply lasted until my next appointed day!
We were watching, as U.S. citizens, held captive in Iran, were defiantly flaunted in the face of the entire World, on the nightly News.
When my adult life was just getting started, nothing but doom and gloom was on the horizon.....
The Hand Wringer
I was in high school when Jimmy Carter burst onto the scene, running for President of the United States. (the President left wringing his hands, yes that guy)
Jimmy Carter was all the rage, seemed to come out of nowhere, in from his peanut farm and people loved the soft spoken, plain speaking man from Plains.
I didn't give him a thought one way or the other initially.
He was just a nice man running for President.
It turned out, the soft spoken, plain speaking man from Plains, was a long way from Georgia and.....in way, way over his head!
He was not a born-leader, he was a born appeaser.
There is a place for appeasers, but it is definitely not as the Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America!
Carter thought that if only Israel would give more territory to the Palestinian territories and if only Israel would continually stay on the high road, if only Israel would give and then give some more, if only.....there could be Peace.
It has always been evident that the more Israel gives, the more aggresive their enemy becomes. It is non-ending, because their enemy doesn't want territory, they do not want harmony, they do not want peace. Their want, their desire...is that Israel not exist. (I figured that one out, all on my own, long ago)
In the case of the Iran hostage crisis, Carter believed that with time and with patience, with more talks and with more diplomacy, if we'd give and then give some more, the hostages would eventually be freed by their captors.
It was as if he believed, he was dealing with..... reasonable people!
They were not released and it wore on and on, much too long, before a rescue was attempted, which failed.
He was seen as weak.
America was seen as weak!
The leftist dream, if we'll just give this and just give that and if we talk it over just a little more. If we could just be more diplomatic and show more love, the bad guys will be understanding and will love us back.
It still exists today.
Haven't we heard this often?
Carter always seemed to be looking out for a foreign interest or any other interest over America's interest and as a result, it backfired and left him expertly...wringing his hands!
Reagan; Strong Leader
Reagan came in with a peace through strength philosophy.
Yes, he, like the majority of the World, wanted peace and yes, he, like the majority of the world, did not want to be at war, but he also recognized that a dangerous element exists and they live with the hope of gaining power or worse, they live to destroy!
He instinctively knew (it is common sense, not rocket science) that you can't take your eye off of the enemy, not for a single minute! Therefore, you MUST have a strong military in place.
A dangerous element knows when there is a strong leader in charge, backed by a strong military and a supportive constituency and when there is not!
I believe that Jimmy Carter is a good man with a good heart and that as President, he really thought he could build bridges, bring peace and end all war Forever.
"Only the dead have seen the end of war" - Plato
A lot of us have been hoping and praying for another conservative, another Reagan:
- Strong in Faith with defined core principles.
- A strong constitutionalist, a strong defender of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
- Believes in small government and in a strong and capable military.
- A leader that believes in more self-reliance and less government hand-outs and gimmes.
- Recognizes the capabilities of the Individual and knows that small businesses can be run successfully, if only the government will stay out of their way (and that it doesn't take a village!)
- Understands that parents know what is best for their own children, not the government and that Parents should always be in control of the decision making, when it comes to their child's education.
No Coronation Day - not in America
I believe that we had that man...in Ted Cruz, but we sent him sailing......
I was in the minority, putting my support behind a Tea Party endorsed candidate.
I was in the minority, voting for Cruz in the Primary.
I was in the minority, understanding why Ted Cruz had to stop short of endorsing Trump at the Republican Convention.
I was in the minority defending him for doing so and I was in the minority, backing a Constitutional Conservative!
We are left with the political parties strong and intact, the Country right now....Eh....not so much!
Sometimes it is difficult to tell which Party is which. I've had it with the showboating and with the insincerity.
Don't spew what you think I want or need or must hear, tell me what you really believe in, at your core, and I'll take it from there!
But, here we are, it has come down to Trump v. Clinton.
I'm leaning toward Trump, mainly because he picked a strong conservative with his selection of Mike Pence, as his V.P. choice.
I could never...I would never, pull the lever for Hillary Clinton.
She has shown us all and shown us often, the kind of person she is.
Ms. Clinton is on some sort of power trip, as if she is entitled to the Office.
She thinks she has earned this and that she deserves the Presidency.
We must never have a Coronation Day, not in this Country.
George Washington was very clear on this, there would be no crowning of Kings and/or Queens...not here, not in America!
So many people are torn about this election and too many will just be sitting it out.
I personally don't like that Ted Cruz, the candidate most like my favorite President Ronald Reagan, was pushed out by a much larger personality.
But, I doubt we've seen the last of Senator Cruz.
We need to take his good and practical advice and always vote our conscience!
God Bless America, Land that I love!
