I Am Conservative,Anyone Not Like Me Is Wrong

Updated on September 15, 2012

A few months ago I was discussing the economy with a certain Conservative (who will remain unnamed) and during this encounter my Republican opponent had the audacity to say, that my dad (who is retired) should be considered an unproductive and useless member of society because he no longer contributes to economic growth.

Was I Shocked? Yes, did it infuriate me? Most definitely but it also furthered my understanding of what it means to be a New Conservative; it enlightened my senses to what Modern Conservatives really believe and practice which is Conservative Totalitarianism mixed with Pharisaic tendencies. Let me explain further.

The New Conservative is not my next door neighbor who votes Republican every year because his or her family is Republican or the leftover Ronald Reagan Democrats but the twenty-first century Conservative is the one who believes America and the world should be FULLY controlled by Conservatism; in fact they believe the Constitution, the Free Market, and even Providence Himself is Conservative.

Can you imagine having to ask a Conservative if it is alright to go to Church or having to pass some intellectual or financial test too confirm your Patriotism or Citizenship? Can you imagine a world where Medicare, Social Security or basic programs for the poor are abolished? Can You Imagine a Great Depression? Scary isn’t it but this is exactly what New Conservatives desire and will implement if they ever gain full power.

In conclusion, These New Hybrid Traditionalists practice American exceptionalism while suffering from a superiority complex; they believe the working poor, the unemployed, the retired poor and anyone down on their luck is a lower life form or at least unpatriotic; in fact their ideas parallel the story of the Biblical Priest and Levite who refused to help the man who fell among thieves simply because they thought they where better than him.

"No! My Dad and those like him are not unproductive but they are and have been the backbone of America for decades because they actually built the highways and bridges of success we all travel on today."

When ever I see crowds of Tea Partiers chanting "We want our country back," I think of how far conservatism has come, and how much it has lost. Republicans used to make sense, and some still do. But the extreme right wing has become the mainstream nowadays...

I want the old conservatives back. I've had enough of these new conservatives.

I usually like to call them Pseudo conservatives only to differentiate them from the neo-cons who are a whole different type.
