I Wish I Didn't Take My Eyes Off The Road

Updated on August 2, 2012

.I messed up, I messed up badly...

I was on my way home from high school,

I drove my new Ford Ranger home gladly....

I take my phone with me everywhere I go,

I was driving home by myself....

I wish I wasn't alone that day,

I wish somebody told me "no",

I should have left my phone at home on the bookshelf....

The light was green, I didn't see it change to red...

My phone lit up, so I browsed a text instead, going 40MPH, full speed, no time to brake,

I swerved to miss an oncoming car, but it was way too late...

I felt a huge, enormously painful jolt, heard an awful sound,

My body jolted forward to the steering wheel,

Then, slammed back hard, as the top of my truck flipped, and hit the ground....

My head hit the driver's side window,

Then I heard a crack...

The pain was so intense,

My whole world went pitch black...

I wish I didn't take my eyes off the road,

I wish I could take it all back...

The grief I've caused my family and friends,

Irresponsible driving took me to my grave,

I glanced at a text, it ended my life...

I will never finish high school,

I will never get married, have kids, or see daylight again,

One stupid text message took my life to an abrubt end....

I can never come back from death....

Tell your husband, tell your wife

To put the phone down, stop texting at the wheel,

Stop and take a breath,

Cause I'd give anything to live again.

I wish I didn't come to know death,

Please don't text and drive,

I'm trying to save your life...

But if you choose to act irresponsible,

Then I guess that you don't care,

The warning's in your face,

So don't say it was never there....
