Mocked and Painted Over; America and American History

Updated on August 17, 2019
abwilliams profile image

Ignore the in-my-face obvious issues and lend all of my attention to unwarranted, groundless non-issues? Not happening!

"I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man."

- George Washington

Mocked and Painted over...

I’ve just heard the news that the U.S. Women’s soccer team won the World Cup.

Good for them.

I didn’t watch, there was a John Wayne movie on at the same time and you know...priorities and all that...

Turned off by one of the players, in particular, as she continually mocks the U.S.A.....while playing for Team U.S.A., not seeing anyone call her on it, led me to turn off and turn on alternative programming!

We have a big problem, when winning becomes the most important thing and bad behavior is not only overlooked; it is accepted, explained away and interpreted into something other than, what it really is.

The problem persists when a popular name brand kowtows to a man and a movement. A movement which in a short amount of time, has genuinely done more harm to sports and hurt more people, Veterans, etc., than our flag or our anthem, could ever {in a million years} offend!

It does this Nation...as a whole, great damage!

Police officers asked to leave a coffeehouse, because a product of this insanity, a patron, is offended by their presence and is in fear of their own personal safety! When the fact is, this person, this product, should be in fear of their ignorance, which puts the safety of these and all police officers, putting their lives on the line each and everyday, in jeopardy!

I am not waking up to the news that a Police Officer has shot and killed an innocent person, I am waking up to the news, too often, that yet another innocent Police Officer has been shot and killed by a criminal.

And in the meantime...

A mural of the Father of this Nation is scheduled to be painted over. A California high school, which bears the very same name of the man in the mural, wishes to make him disappear. It is not a flattering depiction by any means, but it is historic and with just a few strokes of a brush, just like that...it will be gone!

The very first President of the United States, a man among men, the General of all Generals, the man who declined offers and pleas to be King.

The man who unselfishly gave and gave some more for this Country, when it was long past his time to live out the remainder of his life, out of the spotlight, which he had never sought.

He, George Washington, is being forgotten for all that he really was, in favor of something that he has been made out to be!

The controversial mural
The controversial mural

“I can clearly foresee that nothing but the rooting out of slavery can perpetuate the existence of our Union, by consolidating it in a common bond of principle”

- George Washington

Thomas Jefferson will no longer be honored in Charlottesville

We have a multitude of the comforts of life, a thriving economy, opportunities galore, so many wins for the United States of America, meaning, wins for us, over the years, all too often, taken for granted.

We are such a blessed Nation, but when things are taken for granted, they are not recognized as anything special. When things are not cherished nor prized....not seen as anything special, it’s pretty simple to see how false information, coming at us from all directions, takes over and takes hold!

And in the meantime...

The Writer of our Declaration of Independence, the man who penned the words, “all men are created equal”, who wished for us to not only live free, but to freely ”pursue happiness”, as is our God-given right, without government interference in that pursuit, that man...is being omitted.

The man born near the banks of the Potomac River, Thomas Jefferson, will no longer be recognized in Charlottesville, VA, on his birthday. They’ve rejected him, in their ignorance, they prefer to look back and not see what we, as a Country, were able to overcome, but rather...only the ugliness which had existed up until that time.

What if.....

With each new story of the dismantling of statues, the constant stories of the weak-minded so eager to take offense with all things Americana, with the painting over of murals and the retelling of history, we’ve arrived.....the names, Washington and Jefferson have become the latest targets.

But, what if men such as Washington or Jefferson, Adams or Franklin never lived? What if they did live, but lacked the, vision, courage and boldness to break the chains of tyranny and fight for what you and I.....are so willing to just throw away?

Who would we be and what would our lives look like today?

What if the United States of America never came to be and this.....large land mass, as a whole, still existed, functioned, in servitude to, the King....or Queen of England?

No that couldn’t be, because England, all of Europe, as we know it today, would not exist, so what type of Dictator/Tyrant would we all be a slave to?

While we are busy pretending that our Founders didn’t exist or existed, but only to do great harm, while we are revising, omitting, destroying, painting over, should we also pretend that Hitler never existed?

How should we rewrite that history?

Should we revise the story and make Hitler less evil, while we make our Founders out to be him?

Do we really want to imagine a world in which the United States of America never existed?

That’s exactly where we are headed when so many parts and pieces of our history are revised, omitted, retold...when offense is taken at the sight of a portrait or a mural of George Washington or a statue of Thomas Jefferson.

We just celebrated our 243rd year as a Country, I wonder...do the ignorant and offended want to completely do away with this celebration/remembrance/acknowledgement?

Do they want to do away with this Country and if so, in favor of, what exactly, pray tell?

I can’t answer that question, I don’t have an answer to that which I do not understand to begin with.

I do know that I am blessed to call myself an American, I take pride in that, as any other Countryman in any other Country...should have the good fortune to do.

God please continue to bless and keep these United States Of America!

“I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.”

-Thomas Jefferson

Thank you James. It has gone from subtle to blatant and in our faces hasn’t it?

It is not okay that George Washington will now be covered up rather than painted over. I think too many of us are completely missing what is happening, even though.......it is blatant and in our faces!

Thank you for this excellent article. You are so right. As George Orwell said, "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history." AND "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." AND "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue street, and building has been renamed."

      Agreed Shannon.

I think, it will either be forgotten forever, hidden away there behind the paneling or some anxious, offended, p.c. type will protest until the paneling is removed and the mural is destroyed, they’ll not feel safe until they know it’s gone...permanently.

UPDATE: The 'controversial' mural of George Washington, (at George Washington High School in California) which was slated to be painted over, will now be preserved...only it will not be visible. The plan now is to preserve the mural and hide it behind paneling or something comparable.

Shannon, on the very rare occasions when I go to Disney, there are many windows available for ticket buying. The crowds come in, off trolleys or whatever and head straight for the longest line.

      It never fails!

They'll automatically assume, the longest line is their only option, but it never is. However, they'll not bother to look around to make sure.

Too many people are followers and that's what scares me the most.

I think it's kinda like this, Angie. Someone says something that sounds smart. Then they back it up with a bunch of other things that sound smart. And they share this newfound epiphany with others.....As I write this, I have this image in my mind of hippies high on life, among other things, but you know, that's all relative. . .It's so radical, it must be true. No one stops to think that fact needs to be separated from opinion. Thre's no empirical evidence. And history still happened whether someone's opinion of why or how it happens changes or not. It's human nature. . .(maybe?). . .to go with the popular opinion.

Progressives are the main problem. They believe all people in a society should have a fair distribution wealth and that we should live in an egalitarian society. Climate change is their religion. The problem is that they have zero tolerance for those who do not believe exactly as they believe and they seem to have no idea that their policies would make poor people poorer and the middle class destitute. But those at the top, like Al Gore, would do just fine. They believe the end justifies the means in whatever they choose to do. This is why they do not condemn ANTIFA or antisemitism or corruption among their own. Unfortunately, the media and educators are complicit in choosing not to expose their wrongdoings. And so the media is guilty as well.

Our only real hope is in good judges and lawyers who are not afraid to fight corruption. But it is impossible to argue with them. They are blind to their own immorality. If they ever gain real power, I shudder to think the level of violence they would wield upon those who dare to challenge their policies. Their "rulers" would make the worst tyrants.

Not for one moment am I fooled by their message of inclusiveness. They are anything but that.

Exactly Yves, it is not a flattering depiction, by design. "The joke is on the woke", but they'll only see it as another victory toward eliminating all traces of our founders and then it will be on to their next target.

Oh but wait...funny that you should mention Honest Abe. Funny that I should mention,

next target, I am now hearing chatter that deep down in his heart, even Abraham Lincoln was racist.

I cannot even begin to understand how the mind of the left operates.

The irony of the George Washington mural is that it was painted by a communist who was depicting his "woke" sentiment that America is NOT great. The mural had dead Indians, etc. So in one sense, the joke is on the woke educators who made the decision to paint over the mural.

As for Jefferson, I hadn't heard about that one. Before you know it, Honest Abe will be the next to go. It's all rather disgusting. I'm so over the Left, you don't even know. (well....actually....you probably do.)

Keep the faith, AB. That's about all we can do. That and speak out when we can.

As my boy Gabe and I talk about all things strange he pointed out that "Dierker" is our last name and that is German. I pointed out that I am adopted so who knows?

Well by golly it struck me. Germans committed horrible crimes like, enslavement, Genocide and a war killing millions and they did it twice. Perhaps we should change our family name, bring down the gross German house of Dierker. I admit we are a proud family. But.... Should we pick Nguyen?

(and does it count that Dierkers have fought against Germany in both wars?)

      Should I feel ashamed?

Sort of like "I've Been Watching You," except I like the latter better.

Down here in the southwest of the USA we preserve Native American sites even though they massacred and took into slavery many a white woman. Maybe we did the same? Who should be revered and who should be condemned. I think Cochise said "history is just that".

Amen and hear, hear Betty. George Washington was such a selfless, larger than life leader, every move he made was all about this Country and he has been reduced to this by ignorance and hate and as you've stated "the globalists" aka: new world order.

We must keep writing, sharing, spreading the good news that we are living in the greatest Country that God gave man and we are not about to give it up to liars and traitors.

Very good read! Last week was a crazy one for sure. With George Washington there was a key battle fought when all other soldiers thought that they had lost the Revolutionary war. George Washington didn't lose hope, nor did his battalion of young soldiers. It was the middle of winter and most of his men didn't have coats or shoes. They believed freedom from oppression was far greater than temporary comforts. When they fought the battle of Trenton, most of the soldiers and their commanders had been ready to just give up. When they heard news of Washington's win it gave them a new hope that stood them back on their feet and as we all know, these early American's won.

It's terrible how the globalist's have made everything about our nation offensive. Our flag, our history, our soldier's, and as you pointed out, our law enforcement. Even the Pledge of Allegiance is being removed or omitted from classrooms.

Somehow our history got lost, and we didn't see it happening. The Globalist's have been busy dismantling our nation. The only way to get things back in order is to revamp the entire educational system, and get patriots back into government offices. With God's help and direction, it can be done.

I enjoyed reading your article very much!

Took me a few days, but I finally made it over. Except I Noticed you published another one too. You're on a roll and I must be rolling the wrong direction - I can't keep up! LOL.

I guess we touched on my thoughts on this via messenger, though, before I even read this. With so many protesting at inappropriate times and in inappropriate ways and with so many people being offended by history. . .I wonder what will happen if patriotism dies to a point where people no longer wish to stand in defense of America. We already do not treat veterans well enough.

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I've found that articles like this one fall on deaf ears unless someone already agrees. It seems like no one listens to the opposing point of view and everyone is just ready to argue. For example, a friend posted something about the new Ariel controversy and I commented that I don't know anyone upset by it. She told me that it's an actual thing and that I should get on board or look it up - something like that. I told her that I've had enough pettiness from adults acting like children lately and no, thanks. But her friend jumped all over me because "just so we're clear, racism is not pettiness." That's not at all what I was implying, but I didn't feel like arguing so I just told her that I never said it is and left it at that. However, so much of what is going on in this country right now seems to me to have roots with simple petty behavior. Racism is not petty, but being offended by a black Ariel is ridiculous.

I was thinking about the Camp David Accords '78. So Egypt and Israel sign some peace treaty '79. Can you even imagine the hateful captivity and slavery that Egypt put the children of Israel through? Yet they have gotten over it and in Jerusalem nobody is tearing down the other guys historic stuff. Shoot millions killed and even some places shared for different reasons.

And now the American Flag is offensive.

Perhaps we have a duty to those being oppressed right here and right now through mental poverty of history. How do we fight that evil demon.

We all know that progressive burning of books like Mark Twain stuff is next. Who are the dictators these days?

Ideally, Angie, we can never lose hope. People who have been led astray can be retrieved. Those of us, and we are many as well as determined, can and must continue to find ways to correct the wrong.

For most of us, it seems because we haven't the resources for large scale activities or massive outreach, we need to focus on whatever is available to us. IMHO, just as we have guided & directed our own children and now, our grandchildren, we need to follow through with other youth, in our communities & schools.

There exist organizations that invite our talents and knowledge in so many ways. So, it's important to take these opportunities & become involved. For every young person we can reach and help them to use their minds and hearts for the good of all society and understand that they can be smart enough to rationalize and utilize common sense in order to thwart brainwashing and useless propaganda.

If we truly think they have been easily "programmed," it's imperative we work tirelessly to deprogram & show them a world of free thinking and search for truth. The one thing we should never do, is give up on them.

AB I just yesterday told a child of mine that upon my death to burn me up and throw me in the garbage heap. You see in the 80's I was a prick at times. I must confess I even broke the laws. I hope all remembrance of me goes away in time. All I have done well should be discarded as I remember refusing service to someone clearly trashed on meth. Maybe they can remove all of my children's bricks at our family site.

T...."cathartic" is a great word for it and thank you.

I love John Wayne, the old classic movies, old television shows such as the Virginian, the Rifleman, Gunsmoke...always have, but nowadays, they are an escape from the madness which has overtaken this Country.

AB, so glad you are writing! Isn’t it cathartic to express these thoughts? I know it is for me to read them... thank you.

The Duke’s our favorite too! His movies are probably the only ones I watch because of the actor. Anything else i’m more interested in the story than who is acting in it.

Anyway what you say is so true and you say it so well.
