In the beginning there was...the beginning? Creationism or Evolution?

Clean up your room!

Humans sure are trashy!

Humans account for most of the pollution of our planet. Some pollution does come from natural causes like volcanoes, but humans are the ones known for contaminating the very places that they live in.

Just knowing that there is a GROWING pile of trash in the Pacific that is twice the size of Texas is enough to make me want to scream - CLEAN UP YOUR PLANET!

What are you going to do about it? Sit there and argue about whose bible is the correct one? Did Darwin become an Atheist? Who the freak cares?

Let's try buying stuff in cardboard or recyclable containers. Take cloth bags to the grocery store to carry groceries home in. Reduce your personal waste and look for things to do to clean up the world. Do some research on environmental waste and figure out how you can help the most.

I personally try to reduce medical waste at my job. I encourage others to be more responsible and stop throwing perfectly good stuff away. Our surgery department sends sterilized and used surgical equipment to be used again in research or veterinary surgeries.

I buy a car and keep it until I can't drive it anymore instead of buying a new one every couple of years. I take care of it as long as I can. I keep it clean and serviced regularly.

I don't spend my time wondering where trash comes from. I realize it's HERE NOW! I need to do something about it. All of us working together could solve the trash problems. I know we can.

Life the Universe and Everything

Why all this hoopla about a "Beginning"

How does it matter how we got here on this planet? We ARE here, that's a fact that no one can argue with. Well, maybe some of those existential types that suppose we are really inside a universe that is contained in someone's fingernail and they use us to pick their noses.

Arguing about when and where we came from really gets us nowhere. It's all been said, it's all been documented, it's all been picked apart and reassembled until I just want to puke. Neither side - either Creationists or Evolutionists know the real truth and why the hell does it matter to the big floating trash pile now growing in the Pacific? Or the Christian Scientists dying for lack of medical treatment?

Figuring out where we came from is a big fat waste of time! Is someone going to throw a party when the issue is finally settled? Will we be alive to see that? Heck no!

If we took all the time we've been wasting on this and other meaningless arguments, think what we could accomplish!

What about wars?

Who won what war when? How many died? What did the war accomplish? Hating is hating no matter how you dress it. Why would anyone spend so much time hating another human being enough to go kill them and their families and their dogs and cows and goats.

Crap, just trying to survive in your own country should be taking up most of your time! If you don't like the country you were born in, then make it better! Do what you can to stop the killing, fighting, poverty, abuse, misunderstandings and arguments. Don't expect some invisible deity to solve your problems. You got two hands and a brain, use them!

Refuse to kill others. Maybe someday they will return the favor.

A better golden rule...

If it's broke - fix it. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

K.I.S.S - Keep it simple & even more simple

Live, Laugh, Love

Stop and smell the damn flowers!

Good fences make good neighbors. You live on your side and I'll live on mine, how's that?

Be kind! (that pretty much sums it up)

Stop trying to interpret things.

Don't kill.

Don't steal

Don't be jealous.

Don't lie.

Don't be disrespectful or destructive

Keep your promises

This is great and truthful hub and I just love it! It took me nine months to find it but I glad I did! I discovered this why I was working on a hub "Are We Blinded by Science?" which takes a look at our obsession with technology and putting our faith it something like science that is designed to change anyway! Thank you for putting me back on track on a subject I use to be passionate about. That subject is,the man made pollution and what we can do to change it!

People always want the latest new thing, and the old gets added to the ever-increasing junk pile. We're all swimming in our own waste - all those dumped chemicals come back to bite us.

My attitude towards life - mutual respect, not one way; make the most of what you've got

That's a great idea, sueroy! It should be a fun thing. That's going to inspire another hub :-) or two.

I believe with all my heart you ARE a wise ass. I love it! Sometimes that's what it takes to keep people's attention. You have mine.

The photo of the trash in the ocean turned my stomach.

My brother, his wife, and I were talking about this very thing the other day. We believe the politicians have been so busy dividing everyone about the "Global Warming Crisis" that the truth has been buried. That truth is that, as you so eloquently said, we need to "Clean up our Planet!". Global warming or no global warming. Oh, I'm sorry... climate change or no climate change. (covering ass in case we run into an ice age)

I actually believe (rose colored glasses maybe) that most of us care about our planet. We just need to find fun ways to clean it up. People will do just about anything if you label it as fun!

    I'm following you right back!

Thank you Scribenet! If the plastic island keeps growing we'll be able to walk to Hawaii! Perhaps California can find a way to sell it as real estate.

What bothers me the most is that no one is doing anything about the big mess out there! It's being ignored completely. Maybe we could compact it into big blocks and turn it into space debris. Or aim it into the sun or something. We definitely need to get it out of the ocean.

    Austinstar...Voted up and useful!

That pile of rubbish in the middle of the ocean certainly points to the fact people think someone else will pick up after them...NOT!

...and so there is this mass of garbage twice as big as Texas in the middle of the Pacific because of that fact! It should be mapped and called Human Negligence Island. Would it help? Probably not!

I have had my car for eight years and hope to hang on as long as I can and try to recycle and never, never and I repeat NEVER toss my trash on roadsides, lakes etc...not even as a kid! We have to respect our is where we live!

Thanks for reminding us of the Golden Rules we should all live by!

    Great Hub!

I think the older I get, the less I want to KNOW the answers to be honest. The ones I already know are good enough for me. And I believe the maxim as well to most importantly keep your promises. It's a no brainer. I also believe in trying to fix what's broken and leaving the rest alone! And I really don't want to know how I got here or why - it's just important that I do the best with what I got and where I was planted in my book!

Excellent, excellent. This is exactly the way I try to live my life. Yeah, the planet will probably outlive us and heal itself a bit, but that's no reason to live in a dump while we're here! My father-in-law likes to believe whichever theory on Global Warming suits his lifestyle at the time, so he says that it's all a myth and that we don't need to bother recycling or anything. Even if it is all a myth, what's the harm in keeping the place clean and tidy?

Idealism rules, and utopia is what I dream of too. Lots of people don't like that side of me, but they can lump it!

Hi Pcunix! I checked out the article. It does apply here, "So should you care? Yes you should, if you value your health. A healthy planet equals healthy humans, a lesson it's really time we learned."

I'm not sure that less interaction with wildlife is a good idea though. Maybe less destruction of their habitat is what they mean.

I like the way you juxtapose religion with trash and pollution. Like the garbage littering a once pristine world, reiigious misconceptions have only serve to erode the minds of people who refuse to remove their blinkers. Creating division, bigotry and moral hypocrisy. A very thought provoking hub.

Over here in The U.K we are all encouraged to recycle, but they dont have the facilities for using all the recycled materials, so a large proportion of it is shipped off to China, where it ends up as landfill anyway.

Thanks for a really interesting, entertaining, and thought provoking hub; just what I would have expected from you anyway.

Oh now the delivery takes away the old and I do believe they refurbish it. Oh our old tub is now a garden in the front of our houese. We also used the rails from a daybed to put behind it on the wall of the house and put the sides on the side of the Strawberry and Lily of the Valley Garden that is in front of the tub. I try to recycle and re-use lots of things!

Tony, thanks for being part of the solution. Yes, I would love to live in my idea of utopia, I don't, therefore I just encourage us to move in that direction.

Fully 50% of humans are below average in intelligence. The top 50% should encourage the below average ones. 50% of us should be the caretakers of the other 50%. That's just common sense.

There is just so much to be done! Find something and quit your bitchin about stuff you can't do anything about.

  • Austinstar profile imageAUTHOR

You are right Qwark, Mother Nature is a big girl and can take care of herself. She has bigger toys and more destructive weapons. We are just soooooo puny! But that shouldn't stop us from living in a clean environment.

Beege, if the bad guys pick my pocket or burgle my home, they won't get much! I don't lock my car anymore because if someone feels the need to steal it, they shouldn't have to break a window to do so. That creates waste and pollution. Go ahead, take the car and get some use out of it. Hope you sleep well! I'll enjoy this little flower here. Now, of course I'm not going to ENCOURAGE you to steal and I do take some precautions. I have dogs at home. They will bite you. I also have a few other surprises. If you try to steal my life, I will defend myself. But I'm not going to hate you if you're a thief. Whatever. You have to live with yourself. I'm sorry.

Lady G. there are some things we can fix and some things we can't. If you buy new, you are at least providing someone an income, so don't sweat it. Just don't dump the old stove in a landfill somewhere. Recycle it! Maybe turn it into a flower box! LOL.

I like this, I really do! "Do what you can to stop the killing, fighting, poverty, abuse, misunderstandings and arguments. Don't expect some invisible deity to solve your problems. You got two hands and a brain, use them!" I would drink to that, were I a drinker! But seriously, isn't that what it's all about? I think so.

    Love and peace

I agree with all you have said. While my husband thinks that we can go out and buy something that is easy to fix, he would rather buy the new. I would like to fix it. Except for the new stove that I need and can't fix it. LOL

  • Beege215e profile image

You're right about most of this. We have created a monster of a mess. We, living in a consumeable world, must buy everything and anything and throw away everything and anything every day. Get a new phone? throw the old one out even though you just got that one six months ago. The television works just fine, but I want a bigger one, throw the old one out and get me a new one. Who cares where the old one winds up. Maybe their right, the downturn in the economy has helped a lot of people rethink the consumerism and waste that our greed created. People are reusing, recycling, and saving because they cannot afford to waste and clutter the junkyards quite so quickly.

Little things mean a lot, every small step each of us takes to slow the waste is a good step.

I like your new rules, mostly, but the bad guys won't. They will pick your pocket while you are smelling the roses. Sit down and have a cookie, take a deep breathe, relax a bit ( while I go burgle your home). I'm with ya,

    Hi Austin:

    I know that was cathartic.

You and I both know that what you desire of humanity is pure "idealism."

All of the things you speak of will only increase and get worse.

Before man arrived, Mother Earth and the "firmaments" were balanced and in control...and in reality, "She" still is.

    We are "acne!"

"She has a couple billion more years to apply a remedy and get healthy again.

About the time "She" does that, "Her" time will have lapsed. She will die an ignominious death.

    Permanancy is an impossibility.

I keep saying it Austin, 'cause I mean it: "Don't worry! Be happy!"

    Qwark :-)
