Indonesian Election Day

Updated on July 26, 2009

Election Day is extraordinary day. At that day people from all over the country will vote for their congress' members or for their president. We still remember how hilarious the election day on 2008 in United States. It's wonderful. As a big country and as a country with more experiences in democracy, USA has shown us, they have upheld democracy when Obama was chosen by the USA people. Because of the result of democracy, an Afro American can be a USA President now. It's the first time in American history.

In my country, Indonesia, we are learning to upheld democracy. For the first time in 2004 we in Indonesia chose our President directly. And the result has made Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the President, he used to be called SBY. He must do his programs for 5 years, from 2004 till 2009. Now, 8 July 2009, today is our Election Day to vote our President again after 5 years SBY held the legacy for the President of Republic Indonesia.

During the period of campaign, like other countries and as common to those who had competition, some candidates sometimes made black campaigns. Everything about the opposite parties, like religion, family, friends, and their programs can be used as black campaign themes. Baners, advertisements, or direct campaign often became satirizing sentences that would make red opposite’s ear. But I was very impressed at one point from USA’s democracy, it was when John Mc Cain as the opposite of Obama, only several hours after the result of USA election, straightly said congratulation to Obama. We, Indonesian people have to learn more from a soul like Mc Cain.

Give Your Vote

hi bekaze, thank's for your attention about indonesian election. The condition all of campaigns are better than few years ago. But it was not supported by election-committee. Many of citizen were not enlisted and while others were double enlisted. That was manipulation or not, the election days on 2009 was bad and a lot of Indonesian citizen was disappointed.
