Instigators Planted To Disrupt Peaceful Demonstrations

Seeing is not always believing

On Saturday March 30. Americans attempted peaceful marches in many cities to decry the murder of George Floyd that was captured live. Unfortunately, news reports began coming in stating that the protesters were being violent. Sometimes what you see is not to be accepted or believed because it is an utter deception. There was a peaceful protest in Roanoke Virginia where I live but things got a little out of hand. I will chronicle what I know in this hub. My two oldest children attended in the early afternoon and they said that people around them wee trying to comply with orders but the police were intimidating them. My daughter said the local law enforcement were standing in riot gear and patting their batons in their hands in a threatening manner. One of my Facebook friends, whose cousin is the police chief said the officers had to be on guard because there were rumors of trouble makers from out of town who wanted to incite rioting.I was told there were snipers waiting in top of the roof of the police station.

News reports said a few protesters got out of hand, but those in attendance said it was law enforcement who were threatening people for now reason. My husband and I drove by around 6:00 PM and the crowds had thinned so we got out of the car to listen to what was going on. The protesters were on one side of the street and about six police officers stood in front of the jail looking from the other side of the street. There were more white than black people at this point and some held signs that said "Black Lives Matter." One African American female was shouting that during an altercation the police had broken her knee, A much younger male who appeared to be biracial was in the middle of the street screaming that he was ready to die for his five year old daughter. It was at this point we saw trouble coming.

Trouble on the way

This man was a white male who was strapped, with a shot gun on his left shoulder and a pistol in a holster on his right side. My husband said Virginia is an open carry state so he was within his rights. I wondered why anyone would show up to a peaceful demonstration dressed like this. I took note as you can see in the second photo, that he stopped directly across from the police officers and they paid him no mind. No one walked over to talk to him or try to find out why he was there. Although he was standing with the protesters, something just did not seem right, so my husband and I left.

As we reflected on this situation we received phone calls and also saw on news reports that instigators were being sent to peaceful protests to cause trouble. Riots that broke out in other cities were said to have been started by outsiders and this was enlightening. A friend who say my picture of this man on Facebook said she had seen him earlier during the march and suspected he was with the police department. If this were true I had to wonder if he was supposed to intimidate or keep people in line. I also wondered had he been a man of color strapped like that would the police officers ignored him.

George Floyd is getting lost

In the midst of all the marches, unruly protesters and people who were planted, George Floyd is getting lost in the mix. Rumors were flying that his autopsy report indicated that he did not die from the knee in his neck. The entire world saw for themselves that he was alive and well until he was manhandled by the police. How can anyone say the police officer was not at fault? People are expected to not believe what they saw with their own eyes. This photo shows Mr. Floyd's eyes beginning to bulge and he is sweating which is a sign of suffocation, he is clearly in distress and yet the public is supposed to believe he died from other health issues.

I listened to several eye witness accounts that prior to the time my husband and I showed up that the police did mace the crowd. Children and senior citizens were sprayed and an elderly man passed out. I don't believe any of this is what Floyd Gregory wanted and I think of Dr. King with his views of non violence. What are people supposed to do when law enforcement can murder you without a cause and get away with it? What are you supposed to do when you are peacefully protesting and it is those who were called to serve and protect that are doing you harm?

All lives matter

There were many peaceful marchers who were not African American who were holding signs that said Black Lives Matter. All life should matter and it is a shame that some people believe that African Americans have no value. I have been watching my Facebook news feed and a large number of people are now focusing on the rioters and saying that they would exert their right to defend themselves. Floyd Gregory's senseless murder is being overlooked as those who were harboring hate and racist thoughts are now letting them out and it's not pretty. Where is the love? What happened to "We are all in this together?" I have lost white male friends because they don't agree with me that the presidents racist undertones has caused trouble makers to become bold and up front with their hate. The looters and rioters are very wrong in what they are doing and I don't condone this, but we should not throw out the baby,(George Floyd) with the bathwater. Justice must be served and a point needs to be made that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. If we mess this one up, the woe on us in the future.

I live in England, and watched in horror at how George Floyd died. I also believe that there were and still are deliberate trouble makers that have taken the whole thing and ruined it. I do hope things get better over there, and good luck for the future. Take care.

Thank you for sharing Cheryl and expressing your personal feelings and observations :) I feel within your sentences of your hub, your a sweet loving person :) Your passionate and geniune :) I dont normally use hubpages as a platform to express my personal views of this situation, but I feel you would appreciate a brief point of view. My hubby served in the military as military police and as a deputy. I have a cousin who is currently a police officer in Baltimore. I have known police officers of different ethnic groups and I can tell you whenever you have a large group of people protesting, regardless of race, you will always have those select few that will push and challenge law enforcement until it turns violent. It is sad but true. I' m sure you can agree that love is the only answer. Martin Luther King Jr. was the perfect example of love because he followed his perfect example of love Jesus. The Lord blessed him in his fight :) I also agree that all lives matter. Life is so precious and when you lose someone there is a domino effect of pain, greiving and dispair. Unfortuately when feelings of anger hit, it can become a cancer of hate and destruction. I greive for our nation, our future and safety for all of our families. I apologize if I went on a rant :) Time to read more of your hubs :)

The way George Floyd did is horrendous. I can't imagine anyone doing this to another human being. I understand why the family is getting a second autopsy.

I think there are many people out there that just want to protest and they have a good reason to protest. I wish the ones who come in to burn businesses and steal would just stop. Justice must be severed as you said. I don't thing the president wants the violence and I would hope everyone peace. I liked reading your article as you had a close view of what was happening.
