Iran Bans Women from Many University Majors

Updated on September 24, 2012

Flying under the news radar screen is an item that simply puts to rest the notion that women in Iran are treated fairly and not as second class members.

Because women in Iran outnumber the men enrolled in colleges and universities and because many majors promote independence, Iran has decided to ban 77 major fields to women in hopes that they will "stay in their place", that is, at home, giving birth to more babies. According to the BBC, 30 universities there have banned 80 degree programs to women, such as, engineering, business, nuclear physics, and computer science. The reason is that many degrees in these types of fields make many in them have power and status. Since the Iran society is based on men, women are always looked upon as lesser.

By denying millions of women these majors and degrees, Iran hopes to keep a lid on the rising dominance of women and force them into fields that are secondary. Iran is also cutting back services in contraception and sex education to make women naive about it and produce more babies. Female Iranians are surpassing their male peers in traditionally male-dominated studies, like science and engineering, and because of this, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, decided to curtail the higher education degree fields available to women.

All I can say is, WOW. The Iranian government is so insecure that they ARE dangerous to the Middle East.

I am not sure of how much truth is in this but God forbid if this is the truth, it is by far the dumbest thing I have heard any government do!!

Islam says, "For education and knowledge if one has to go to China; s/he must be allowed to do so."

Any one who thinks that a woman's place in society is only to reproduce; seems to forget that a society is groomed by its women.
