Is Suicide A Good Alternative?

Updated on November 5, 2014

Get Help!

First and foremost, if you are reading this hub and have intentions of killing yourself, please seek help! The links to the right are a great place to start.

I won't lie; I have considered suicide many times. It is my opinion that every single man and woman has.

Suicide has been happening quite regularly around here. I'm quite sure the suicide numbers has probably risen across the United States.

To be very honest, the reason I write this hub is because I have considered the possibility in my own mind a lot lately. I have even had "feelings" that some of my friends and family are "driving" me there. I try to talk with some of them and all they will do is make their "problems" the forefront of the conversation and discount mine. I thank God I have other friends and family who do listen. Without them, who knows?

I thank God I have others who do listen, but I know that many people don't. If you are one of the people who don't have someone to talk to, please call one of the hot lines.

Suicide is not the answer!

Is Suicide A Sin?

This question has been asked throughout time and I have had multiple answers. I won't try to answer, nor will I say if a person goes to heaven or hell after committing suicide. I am not the Ultimate Judge and I would pray that no man or woman would try to judge if a person did go to either heaven or hell. It really isn't our call.

I will point out some Bible verses that deal with suicide. Read the Bible through and notice those people who have killed themselves were always going against God at the time.

Let us look at a few verses and you make the call:

Ecclesiastes 7:17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.

Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

These are just a few. They have held me. Just yesterday suicide was on my mind terribly.

By taking our own lives, we are making ourselves out to be God. We really don't have the right in my opinion.

The economy is bad and times are tough, but suicide is not an answer.

I may feel different later today, after all today is a major day in Justice For Jonathan. At 9am a judge is going to hear and rule whether a different prosecutor can look at the case. With a statute of limitations running out on all charges but murder on the 23rd of this month. I pray that God will control all involved and that His Will be done.

I ask all of you to pray too.

My Therapy

I write this hub mainly for my own therapy. If it helps others who have considered suicide, great.

I pray that God will keep satan off our backs and that death by our own hands will not be an option.

I pray that we will not lose everything we have worked hard for. I pray that my wife's health will get better and that I can be a messenger for God and not a hindrance.

I also pray for my fellow man and woman; that suicide will not be an alternative.

May God's will be done!

I served in the military for three long years, compulsory service in my country. There were unfriendly times, and there was a lot of pressure I wasn't sure how to deal with properly- but suicide? It crossed my mind as something I read about in a book, but it felt so finite and foreign. I never made decisions that would ever feel so finite and death felt like something I was willing to postpone.

Also, I really like what George Carlin said about people committing suicide - "Do you realize, that right this second, right now, somewhere around the world, some guy is getting ready to kill himself. Isn't that great?"

      and -

"I couldn't commit suicide if my life depended on it."

      Anyway, cheers and happy thoughts!

You can't. It's unlawful for others to aid in suicide, and help relieve someone's suffering. It's something that has to be done on one's own, or one risks subjecting friends and family to jail time.

      Hi Froggy,

Please dont ever give in to those dark thoughts and think that suicide is the only way. Believe me - I know first hand what it is like for the family and friends left behind.

      Stay strong. Life is good.

      Hi Froggy,

Thank you for being a wonderful service to the people of hubpages and internet. A page on this topic I think will help many over time.

I agree many people have thought of 'it' before. If you haven't perhaps youre very blessed or you're life hasn't been 'absolute hell'.

God keep you--as long as you have this attitude I think you'll be fine. The fact you know there are hotlines and people to call and are willing to ask for help is good :)

Feel free to read my hubs on mental health. Take it easy Froggie!

Kaie--thank you for a wonderful comment. You are right, God put us all here for a purpose and to take our own lives is very selfish.

No, this guy isn't ever going out that way--they did rule against that court case and I'm still here--Thanks Kaie

Froggy- I hate to change your opinion, but I can honestly tell you that I have never considered suicide.......... not ever. Suicide is selfish, it's bred in hopelessness, and even though I've read your story, Jonathon's story, and all of the rest............ you are not selfish, and I don't see you as someone who embraces hopelessness. Your wife needs you......... your grandson needs you to realize the "justice" you seek, and though I'm sure he's watching you; he's not ready for you to join him yet.

One step at a time........... I keep you in my prayers

Hello friend. My friend was heavy smoker and smoked 3 pack a day. I asked him to say at each lightening of cigarette to say as many time he can: "I am free from smoking". Shortly in the time of week he stopped smoking. The freedom is available in all aspect of life including depression and suicide. We are free, but stop talking otherwise. People should change their vocabulary.

After I finished reading your article I started to pray.
