Chick-Fil-A playing “Chicken” with the public

Updated on March 20, 2013

Things are getting spicy

Confused about Chick-Fil-A's stance

I am so confused about Chick-Fil-A and the status of their charitable contributions. Before late July 2012 I knew nothing about Chick-Fil-A’s charitable contributions or their stance on marriage. I was able to count the times I had been there on one hand. Now it is, “They donate! They donate not! They donate!”

Chick-Fil-A: Beginning of the storm

Dan Cathy, Chick-Fil-A CEO, was asked about his stance on marriage in July. After he stated his support of the “biblical definition of marriage,” all heaven broke loose. Major media spread the news of Cathy’s statement. Supporters of gay marriage were offended and then we heard of the contributions that Chick-Fil-A has been making to hate organizations over the years.

Can a chicken play

Tennis anyone?

Revelations of Chick-Fil-A’s contributions led to a boycott of the restaurant by gay marriage supporters. Mike Huckabee then led a Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. After that there was a gay-led “Kiss In” in front of Chick-Fil-A. This began to look like a tennis match.

Premature press release

Last week Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno held a press conference to say that Chick-Fil-A had changed its policy and would no longer donate to gay hate organizations. Chick-Fil-A’s Facebook page was flooded with responses. Chick-Fil-A supporters accused the executives of flip flopping and threatened to stop eating at Chick-Fil-A. Gay rights supporters congratulated Chick-Fil-A for its policy change. Then …. Dan Cathy interviewed with Mike Huckabee and said Chick-Fil-A did not agree to stop funding “gay hate” organizations. Whose serve is it now?
