Leadership in Public Policy

Being a black woman, I am grateful to bare witness to black women taking a stand for leadership roles. Two women I admire are Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Stacey Abrams. Both are for diversity and change in our democracy, what I loved most is how these women are creating change in different ways.

Stacey Abrams is a political strategist which means she assist with campaigns by being the voice of the party she is for (Cooper, 2018). When Abrams started, he campaigns for governor in Georgia, she uses her mantel to encourage people to vote, she also was apart of the black lives matter movement and wanted to transform electoral politics in our democracy. Being a millennium, Abrams can influence other like her to participate in our democracy. Although she did not win for governor, she still was able to have an impact on our democracy.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) is running for 2020 presidential campaign and is proving how powerful women of color can be (Zhou, 2019). Harris was a prosecutor and her goal was changing from within. Being the first black and Asian women elected to congress, Harris is proving diversity can be in democracy. Harris has proved she will not back down from anyone or anything when it comes to policy and law.

Both women are leaders for change a diversity in our democracy and both have different ways of implementing tools for policy change. Abrams is using her skills as a strategist and being the voice of the millennium generation and want to influence us to participate in our democracy. Harris is using her skills as a lawyer to fight for what is right for the people of this country. I am grateful to bare witness of these two remarkable women in our government and hope this only influence more to participate.
