Let's Get Out of the Rat Race

Do not become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You will l be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:2 (Msg)

Do you ever get tired of the con game played by the” industry”?  Which industry you say? There are many. Let us begin with the clothing industry. Does it not seem so superficial that you have to wear “ This years trends or you are a nobody” Who are they? What makes them so special? Does wearing a “ special wear of sneakers make you run faster or score better? What is the difference between a 200 dollar pair of jeans with some ones name stitched on the but and no name jeans? The name? Who are they that they are so special, so much better than you or I? Do you or your family get caught in that trap?

Why not try this little trick : Do your research and find a charity that helps others. Go window shopping. Mark down the price for these “ designer_________ ( fill in the blank ) and no name. Finally with the money you save buying no name : 1 pay down your bills, 2 Put some in the bank for savings 3 reward yourself with a little gift and finally 4 give the rest to your charitable organization.

Now, let us begin with the next big “con” the “ entertainment industry”  Try this: Watch your favorite TV show with the sound off and see how stupid it is. Think of someone you really love. Would you like to see them behave as the character on the show or to see you behave like them? Try going on line and make a list of non violent movies and TV show with no sex in them , where there is a positive message of helping others to it, then rent or buy them .  Listen to the words to the music you listen to, is it negative and self serving? Try listening to Christian Contemporary Music and listen to what they are saying. Which one would you like to listen to and or like your family to listen to?

I have been out of “the rat race for over twenty years and am very happy to leave it in the gutter where it belongs. My life is much more full and happy now

OH and  why not spend some “ quality time with friends and family. Why not spend some time volunteering. See how much happier and fulfilling your life is. And most important Spend quality time with God every day. Try it every morning before you wake up and see how your day goes. Ask for His guidance. Try it before you go to sleep and see how beautiful your sleep is Thank Him for all the wonderful gifts He has given you, both large and small.

Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
 Proverbs 3:9-10, New International Version

Teacher Joe, I had always wanted to get out of the corporate rat race but had a tough time doing it. It was really hard but all good things are :) I am not yet in the place where I want to be, still trying my best each day to get there. Still, I know that with God's grace I'll get to a place that is even so much better than what I have in mind.
