CONGRE$$: Bought and Sold

I look at this blank piece of paper thinking, how Thomas Jefferson must have felt. When one considers the daunting task, thrust upon him; to shape, to mold and to create the future of an undefined and unacknowledged Nation. Can we all agree he made us proud? I submit he did well because his intent was to do good.

I can’t help but think, Mr. Jefferson would be marching in the streets, if he were to see the legacy we have left for historians. Unlike Mr. Jefferson, nor myself for that matter, the paper is no longer blank. We can no longer choose to forget the past, regardless of how negative the memories; rather we should embrace them, learn from them and never make them again. Somewhere along the line, we fell asleep, maybe around the time of Seinfeld. Freedom isn't free...Never was, never will be. Those days are gone, and the eroded parchment needs to be rewritten with modern terminology.

One only needs to click on cable news to agree the talking heads have their agenda. Something or other to do with ratings or a point system I care not to understand. Invariably when you click on the cable news channel of your choice, you will see a politician espousing nonsensical manure to promote their latest agenda. Let’s be clear, all they really care about is maintaining their seat in Government. All they really care about, Republican and Democrat alike, is keeping the gig. It’s despicable, it’s offensive and we as a nation must say enough. Divide the nation, American against American, genius yet pathetic as it may be, it's working.

We as Americans need to unite beginning with Congress. I hereby propose Congress is no longer a paying gig. The purpose of having a place of honor cannot be financial gain. Let’s call it a prelude to Leadership, if you will. Fore any soldier will tell you, he or she, will follow a leader into the most dire conditions. Bought and sold by Corporate Dollars, who is left to represent " We The People." Enough Coruption, Enough War, Enough Lobbying!

That’s not what we have though, is it Americans? We have three minute interviews on how we need to fight for credibility, dignity and integrity. We hear these words from those cowering, somewhere in the Foggy Bottom of D.C., hiding beneath their desks. The Armchair Warriors often fail; The word is simple, it’s on our lips, let’s sing it loud, let’s sing it clear. Enough! Enough! Enough!

It reminds me of another little piece of paper that started out blank. Please take this time to read a portion with me. If you can tell me those words are intact today, if you can tell me my point is baseless, if you can tell me shouting Enough is not a good starting point, I’ll remain silent. As I recall, It went a something like this…

“ We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence,[1] promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America…”

I’ll leave you with a thought or two to ponder. Is there anything worse than a Government that has no faith in its People? The answer is clearly yes. People that have lost faith in their Government. If you’re not a fan of the Founding Fathers, I’ll leave you with the immortal words of Biff, ironically from a film entitled “Back to the Future”…”Manure, I hate Manure.”

      Indeed, Money and Politics don't mix. Do they not realize we can see them, We hear what they're saying, and are aware 94% of those candidates whom raise the most money are elected to public office.

      Congress is bought and in the process we have been sold out. Where is the Lobbiest representing the People's concerns?

      You had me at the title. In addition to having selective hearing, they say what they think we want to hear and then do what they please as long as the lobbyists are throwing cash their way.
