Marco Rubio's Platform
Rubio wants to reform the tax code by simplifying it and lowering tax rates. Instead of having complex tax brackets, Rubio's campaign proposes to simplify it to two- 15% and 35%. He also claims that this policy will be more conducive to those in poverty trying to climb the social ladder because there won't be a tax increase for every step of the ladder.
Rubio believes that gun laws are not effective because "criminals are criminals" and gun laws won't stop them from being criminals. The Second Amendment right to bear arms, he states, needs to be restored in order to keep our country safe.
Rubio believes that although environmental concerns are legitimate, their beliefs are overblown and are hurting businesses and our economy.
Same Sex Marriage
Rubio like the majority of Republicans believes that marriage is the sacred union between a man and a woman. Rubio states that because the Constitution does not grant the right to same sex marriage, it does not exist federally. He agrees that if states disagree, they can enact legislation through the traditional political process.
Rubio is a staunch pro-life advocate and believes that abortion should be illegal at every stage and disagrees with the ruling in the case of Roe v. Wade.
Rubio believes that America needs to increase it's defense spending. He strongly disagrees with Obama's defense cuts of $487 billion worth.
Rubio's platform seem's sound and aligns perfectly with Republican ideals, but how he will execute his plans and achieve his proposed goals is a bit unclear and contradictory. Rubio wants to reduce our nations debt, yet plans on lowering tax rates and increase defense spending which is where the majority of federal funds are allocated towards. There seems to be a disconnect between Rubio's plans and reality.
