Life on the Streets

I snapped a picture of a homeless guy who, when I got home and saw the picture, I had to go back to get permission from him to use it because it's a great photo, he is looking directly at me, and he's identifiable.

So I went back back to the corner to see if he was still there or if he and moved on. Indeed he hadn't left yet. After an explanation of my intentions and and some good conversation Chynaman kindly agreed to speak to me with my camera recording.

I think too many of us are walking by too many people without considering or realizing that no one expects to land on the streets, homeless and depending on a system that doesn't support getting people back into the work force permanently.

Yesterday's Taxpayers

People on that are homeless today are the taxpayers of yesterday and if it could happen to them it could happen to you.

People that are dependent on street living are from your own community whether you want to see it or not. They are the unfortunate ones who the system has failed and we need to realize that.

Your Say

Do you beieve we have a social responsibility to help the homeless?

See results

We have a social responsibility to help yesterday's neighbours, especially when they are literally living in our streets begging for help. What kind of a society are we when we put more value in consumerism than humanism.

There is a therapeutic farm community named Woodwynn Farms, whose goal is to help turn around the lives of homeless people permanently, and they are in need of support. Please read the Woodwynn Farms article to become familiar with the project and consider helping a respectful and long term solution to a problem that is growing all over the world.

Debbie; thanks for reading and am glad you agree, we have so many people who need our help, here in our own backyards, if everyone helped it could affect big change.

ananceleste: As you noticed, after I read your story I had to share it in this story of Chynaman, it's at the bottom of the article. Your not only brave but you have come out the other end smiling.

Thanks for sharing your story and allowing it to be shared again and again, people need to connect and relate to people whose lives have been turned upside down as a result of trouble in their world. It's time people saw the real people behind the homeless issue.

Thank you for taking the time to write about this never ending problem. As you know, I was homeless for eleven months, to us, it seamed like decades. I can't imagine being in that situation for 15 years! You will be blessed beyond your dreams. Blessings dear. Voted up!

Rachel, glad you'll show it to your kids, they need to learn, correction, we all need to learn that homeless people are just our neighbours without a house. I thought Chynaman's message was very powerful, and I love the way he looks right into the camera ...

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.

AMAZING! FANTASTIC HUB GIRL! VERY VERY MOVING.

WHAT HE IS SAYING IS REALITY TODAY, IT IS JUST LIKE I THOUGHT, WHEN I PASS A HOMELESS PERSON ON THE STREETS.

IT IS SAD. ONE MINUTE YOU ARE ON TOP OF THE WORLD HELPING TO BUILD THE HIGHEST HIGHRISES IN ALL OF THE MAJOR CITIES, AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, THINGS HAPPEN AND YOU ARE RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM.

I AGREE WITH LaThing, DO NOT TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED, AND LIKE CHINAMAN SAIS "STAY IN SCHOOL, AND KEEP FREE, AND WORK AT IT!!!!

P.S. I WILL SHOW THIS TO MY CHILDREN, AND THEY WILL UNDERSTAND, THANX FOR THE HUB, QUITE MOVING
