Most Dangerous Countries in the World 2011

The unsafest countries in the world. What are the most dangerous countries in the world in 2011? In comparison to countries in Africa most people in the Western world have it relatively peaceful. On a yearly basis the most horrible things take place. But where do they take place the most? Every year different reports are published about the most dangerous countries in the world. We are going to have a closer look at the Global Peace Index of 2011.

In which countries it is best not to go on a holiday? Unless you are a real thrill seeker you probably do not want to end up in the most dangerous countries in the world. A few countries in the world keep on scoring very high on the lists of most dangerous countries in the world, but there are of course also countries that only temporarily make it to the top of the list.

Every year the Global Peace index does a worldwide investigation into the safety and security in the countries around the world. Not only criteria like wars and armed conflict are taken in to account, but also matters like violent crimes, murders, percentage of prisoners, chance of terrorist attacks and also society's perception. In sum all factors that constitute a dangerous situation. The Global peace index, is by far the best indication of safety in the world, with 23 factors it takes in to consideration. The investigation is conducted by a collaboration between the Economist Intelligence unit, the Institute of Safety and Peace and several experts in the field of International security.

Top 10 Most Dangerous Countries in the world 2011

The following top 10 of the most dangerous countries in the world is based on information provided by the Un office of Crime and Drugs, the Uppsala Conflict Data Program and the International Peace Research institute.

Not very suprisingly is Somalia on the top of the list as the most Dangerous country in the world. The government has lost control for over 20 years now. If you can even speak of an actual government. Of course, most people are aware of the situation with the Somalian pirates, but also inland it is very problematic. Somalia can be described as being a failed state, giving the international community reasons for concern. The UN has also proclaimed Somalia as the most dangerous state in the world.

It are not just countries currently at war in the top 10. Also countries like Russia continue to score very high on the list. Recently there have been several terrorist attacks. The seperation movements also contribute to the dangerous atmosphere. Despite this Russia has made some progress in the last years under Medvedev.

North-Korea and Libya are the biggest risers on the list. In one year time Libya has risen 83 places. Libya is now been declared a free country, but we will have to wait and see how the safety will develop. North-Korea has gotten a lot more dangerous, because of an increased level of internal violence, and its strenuous relations with South-Korea. Moreover, Bahrein has with its domestic protests moved up the list of most dangerous countries in the world with 47 places. It is not in the top 10 yet however.

The most dangerous Region in the world remains the African area below the Sahara. It has been like this for decennia now, and there are no real signs of actual improvement..

Hey Stewart. That does indeed sound like a cocktail of national insecurity. I have looked it up, and South Africa does rank quite high as the 35th most dangerous country in the world.

I think you are missing 1. South Africa should be pretty close to the top seeing as we have over 300 000 wanted criminals and a police force so small they couldn't even catch a BUS full of them even if they tried setting up a sting!! Useless police force = plenty of crime (rape, murder, assualt, corruption, etc...) You name it we got it!!!
