The Unalienable Right to Life
Every July 4th we celebrate our national freedom and rights as set forth in the Declaration of Independence. Freedom from tyranny and oppression along with many other freedoms. But our most basic right and freedom, as is written, is the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for each American; and certainly for all mankind. This document began rightly by stating our unalienable rights are bestowed upon us by our Creator.

The founding father's believed what the Bible tells us about God being our Creator. Since the founding fathers began with this premise (and truth), we will begin by presenting the science of conception, formation, and development of a baby to confirm that the Lord God, Creator of heaven and earth, made us.
Science is the most commonly used defense by both sides. Science is valid and of great value. Much of the time it verifies and validates many truths of our physical world. Not all science is exact (like say carbon dating); however, science validates what the Bible tells us about the matter of the conception and development of human life in the womb. The Bible is clear that God created us.
Unfortunately, society is in disagreement as to what constitutes a life, a human being, and when conception begins. Those who do not treasure and preserve the sanctity and sacredness of the life of the unborn will tell you that it is not about the child's rights, but about the woman's rights; thus they do not consider that the unborn are created equal to them. Tragically, they don't consider the unborn in the early stages as created beings at all.
The Bible, the sacred Word of God, is the more important document about the right to life. First I am going to present science that cannot be denied and falls in line with God's Word.

DNA At Conception
With all our scientific and medical knowledge in the last few decades, we know that when conception occurs, there is an established DNA; a genetic code, or blueprint, if you will. Both parents have contributed their allotted 23 chromosomes and DNA which unite together to form what scientists call a Zygote. But consider that this Zygote is living and has it's own unique DNA, and without interruption to the course of nature (abortion), will quickly, physically develop into a fully formed human being. That DNA has everything it needs for the development of that human being for the rest of his/her life. Watch the DNA video for a simple understanding of DNA.

The Zygote stage develops rapidly - four days to be exact; then comes the formation and development of the baby's body. The brain and body chemistry, formation and development of organs and physical features develop by the day. The nervous system begins to be formed in the third week of pregnancy, thus the third and fourth weeks of pregnancy are the most crucial stages in the development of the nervous system. Most abortions are performed in the first 6 to 12 weeks. Look at the photo above and watch the video below and see what develops in those weeks of gestation. There is a child, a living human being complete with a nervous system, circulatory system, heart, brain, spinal cord, eyes, ears, nose, limbs, hands, feet, every organ they need, just not fully developed.
Did you know that a nine week old baby in the womb can move its limbs, suck its thumb, feel and respond to pain? These precious lives are part of the "all people" who are created equal and endowed by their Creator the unalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our founding fathers recognized this and founded our nation on this right.

God's Word Tells the Story of Life
"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them" (Genesis 1:27).
I believe what the Bible says, as do many people, that God is the Creator of all living things. Even many on the right to choose, the pro-choice side would agree with this. The complex, intricate, harmonious order and design of the universe is obvious evidence of a Divine Creator. This being so, it is imperative that our Creator be the central and greatest part of this defense. The Bible gives us an intimate glimpse into the formation of a baby in the womb. We see in Psalm 139 that God is busy at work forming that baby. The NIV translation uses the words knit and woven.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth (vs 13-15).

God's Creative, Skillful Handiwork
King David, who penned Psalm 139, was in awe as he considered how deliberately, carefully, skillfully and with such complexity and detail, God formed him in the womb. He saw that God values us because He made us and has a plan for us. Have you ever watched someone knit, weave, build, or create a work of art? They are doing very complex work with great skill and creativity. Often times they are painstaking and perfectionistic. Consider Michelangelo as he painted those amazing, awe-inspiring works of art on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Our Creator is infinitely more creative and skilled than Michelangelo when He knits a child together in the womb. David was the greatest king of Israel of all time. The Bible says he was a man after God's own heart. How tragic it would have been if David had never have been born to fulfill the destiny God had for him. David was in the lineage of Jesus Christ and his life pointed the way to Him. Something to ponder, isn't it?
God's Master Plan
There is something else to note about people who create works of art - before they even pick up the first tool, they have a plan. In their mind's eye, they plan and design what they want to create and how they will accomplish it. They see the finished product before they even begin their work. This is the conception period, not the actual building or creating. So it is with God. God's plan for us started long before the sperm and the egg united and the DNA was cast. We learn of this in the following verses of Psalm 139:
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you (vs. 16-18).
God spoke this very message to Jeremiah when he called him into the ministry.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5)
Before we physically came into existence, we existed in the mind of God. That was conception.
The Bible also tells us that God has a plan for us:
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord," plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jer. 29:11).
God's plan for us did not only consist of knitting us together in the womb and sending us out of the birth canal; He planned far more. God has a plan for the life of every human being and it started in eternity past.
The greatest plan God has for everyone is that they might be saved from spiritual death and judgment caused by our sins. He wants us to have eternal life with Him, and live a life here on earth that will glorify Him and bless us and the world. He has other plans for us as well. How many people have made a difference in your life? Those people you hold so dear and value so much could not have made any difference to you if their life had been snuffed out for the convenience of someone who made a bad choice. It is not for us to determine and judge that there is no way a baby born in certain circumstances cannot have a meaningful life. God is God and we are not. The unborn life one terminates, could be someone who brings great joy, helps others in their adversity, or will be used of God to bring about His purposes in great ways. Regardless, the child was meant to live and know their Savior.
We must honor first God's divine prerogative to do what He wills.

Whose Right Is It?
Most people who take the "right to choose" stance, (which is the right of the mother to terminate her pregnancy through abortion) claim a right that is not theirs. That child that they call a blob of cells (which we know is a child in process) had a right to life before he/she was ever physically conceived because the Creator had conceived him/her in His mind already.
Apologist, theologian, and author of the Compelling Truth Blog, Robin Schumacher made a powerful point in his post, The Gosnell Trial: Abortion Doctor and his Campaign Against the Image of God. He brings up the truth that according to Genesis 1:27 God created man in His image. Schumacher states that we "are imprinted with the image of the Creator." He further goes on to say, "From a spiritual standpoint, abortion (and every act of murder) is all about exterminating the image of God." Hard-hitting truth, is it not?
The one who interrupts God's plan for a child by way of abortion destroys that child's right to live and experience the life God planned for him from eternity past. This right is not under anyone's authority but God's. Those who are for abortion say "It's the woman's body, she should be able to choose what's best for her." We have some authority over what happens to our body, but we do not have God's authority to take the life of a child living inside it. It is most often to them not about what's best for the woman, but about what is most convenient for one's circumstances, circumstances that are often a result of d poor choices. Ninety-five percent of abortions occur because the mother and/or father, do not want the baby, or don't have the means to raise it. There are times when a pregnancy could be dangerous for the mother and that is a different discussion for another time. At this time I am speaking of the other 95% for the convenience of parents who do not want a child.
No matter what stage of pregnancy, the woman's body is playing a role in God's master plan - to conceive (along with the father), house, nourish, and give entrance into the world a life that God created, whether planned or unplanned, wanted or unwanted by the parents. Not only is an aborted baby denied and deprived of its rights to live in this world, but the mother is rejecting her divine, sacred privilege and moral imperative to bring her baby into this world, whether the baby is wanted, unwanted, handicapped, going to be adopted out, or not. It is a great difficulty for some mothers, a great hardship, in fact, to carry an unwanted baby for 9 months and give birth to him or her and all that entails; but all people suffer hardships in life, sometimes because of their own mistakes, or sometimes because life has thrown them a curveball. But God will see us through it if we call on Him. We cannot cut a life short because it is a hardship for birth mother and/or father.

On May 2, 2013, Pastor Raul Diaz of Path Of Life Ministries in Riverside, CA spoke and prayed (among many others) at the Harvest Christian Fellowship National Day of Prayer meeting. Pastor Diaz spoke and prayed about the horrendous abortion problem in the United States. He said, "As of this year America has aborted more children than all the numbers, of all the people killed, in all the wars in recorded history, on earth."
There are some keywords here to look at.
- America. There are a couple of other countries that have a higher abortion rate than America, so to say that there have been that many abortions in America alone is beyond comprehension ♦ See Movement for a Better America for worldwide statistics.
- Children. Pastor Diaz purposely used the world children. Those who were aborted were children with a God-ordained future ahead.
- All. Used three times. All the numbers of all people killed in all the wars.
- Recorded history. All the war deaths in recorded history on earth. Diaz' quoted statistic should shatter us and fill our hearts with sorrow. It should compel us to action.

The Church is Called to Love and Evangelize
Back in the day, a few so-called Christians blew up abortion clinics (and the people in them) as a response to their indignation regarding abortion. Fortunately, this does not go on anymore. It is biblical that we love those individuals who get abortions, not condemn them. That is not to say we approve of abortion, and we must stand firm against it, but hearts and lives are changed and won through love. The Bible tells us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. It tells us to lead people to Jesus. It tells us to be salt and light. It tells us to love all people. If the Church is doing its job effectively in these ways, we would see an amazing change in abortion and all the other issues of sin in our society. Lead them to Jesus with love.
If You Have Had an Abortion
If you have had an abortion you do not have to live in guilt. God loves you, not because of what you have or haven't done, but because He made you. All but one sin is forgivable. The only sin God does not forgive is to reject Christ until your dying day. Romans 5:8 says "But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." I can't think of anyone who would offer us such a profound grace.
Furthermore, in Romans 10:13 we are told, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." "Everyone" includes you and me.
Your baby is in heaven now, hearing the glorious songs of the angels and in the presence of Jesus. Give your life to Jesus, Savior, and Lord, and you will one day meet Him and your little one and live in bliss with them forever.
And think of this: God can always use you in helping other women who are considering or have had an abortion.
How you can help
Ways to help in the fight against abortion - prayer, service, financial support, education, and advocacy.
By regularly, earnestly and unceasingly interceding for the unborn and pregnant women, we will see God move.
- Pray and ask God how He would like to use you to help.
- Pray for abortion clinics and/or Planned Parenthood.
- Pray for ministries and organizations who help pregnant women.
- Pray for our legislators and legislation to change.
- Pray that the Church will rally and start getting more involved.
Volunteer your time and talent at a crisis pregnancy center, pro-life ministry or adoption organization. If you can volunteer only one day a month, one baby could be saved. These crisis pregnancy centers love to have and need volunteers. There are so many different ways you can help at these places. Even if you are doing clerical work, you are helping.
There are many ministries, organizations and crisis centers that could use your generous donations. Consider partnering in a monthly financial commitment. God will surely use it and bless you for His glory.
Educate people at every opportunity, formally or informally, about the biblical and scientific facts of conception and development in the womb; about the methods of abortion; the biblical perspective on the value of human life, children in particular, including the unborn; the statistics on abortion; the effects on women who get abortions; the great many couples seeking to adopt children; educating youth and promoting abstinence.
The sky is the limit on this one. You can do this person to person, use social networking, contact legislators, speak in public forums, hand out literature, share a testimony if you have one.
Be creative, seek and be open to every opportunity.
