North Korea threatens US and SK again!
The shock waves of the Korean war still ripple in the world today in a war that could have gone nuclear had General MacArthur had got his way and bombed the Chinese mainland using nuclear weapons. Good general that he was in WW2 President Truman thought he had overstepped the mark and forced him to retire probably because of this statement.
The Korean war pitched the UN against first North Korean forces and then later China with the Soviets hovering in the background no doubt. The war ended on the 38th Parallel on the map but it was no end of conflict as such merely a suspension of the war where even today both North and South Korea eye each suspiciously and occasionally military duels have broken out between the South and North but nothing more serious than that.
The US too has since the ending of the Korean war always had a heavy military presence in South Korea to back up its southern friend should the North ever try anything seriously on. Threats day in and day out issue forth from the reclusive Communist regime as to whether there is any substantial meaning behind these threats is unknown much like Iran at Friday prayers always calls for 'Death to Israel' or 'Death to America' just statements to make the regimes look big in the world and something the people gathered at such assemblies shout out like parrots when hearing their master's voice.
Many peace attempts have been tried with the North but like the Palestinian - Israeli conflict it comes sadly to nought. North Korea is reckoned to have one or two nuclear warheads and the ability to deliver them via its ballistic missiles it continually test fires to show what a supposedly big player it is in the region. North Korea recently test fired a supposed thermo - nuclear bomb as the after shocks were felt across the border in South Korea and the result was recorded on the Richter Scale usually used for sensing earth tremors or earthquakes. As to whether it was a thermo - nuclear device some believe it may have been while others are much more cautious saying North Korea is some way off yet from having that kind of weapon.
The incumbent leader Kim Jong Un is an odd fellow indeed, he came to power very young and is the third to rule North Korea in a line of dynastic rulers from the same family. Communism was always supposed to be anti - royal yet here in North Korea we have a hereditary system in an old school Maoist or Stalinist (take your pick) Communist system.
The USA recently blacklisted the North Koreans for alleged human rights abuses and in response the North said it would break communication lines open to the US and North Korea.
Meanwhile seemingly adding insult to injury the Americans have deployed the THAAD missile system in response to the build up of North Korean ballistic missiles and in response the North has said it would turn the South into a lake of fire.
The South Korean Premier Park Geun said the missile system was not particularly aimed at any third third country but mentioned that the Chinese and North Koreans remain a threat.
The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the THAAD system was out of all proportion to the military needs of the Korean Peninsula. Let us hope no war does come from this region because if so it would drag in some regional and very big world powers indeed.
