U.S. SPY AGENCY REPORT SAYS IRAQ WAR HAS CAUSED TERRORISM TO GROW AND METASTASIZE

Updated on August 30, 2006

SPY AGENCIES SAY IRAQ WAR HAS CAUSED ISLAMIC TERRORISM TO METASTASIZE AND SPREAD AROUND THE GLOBE

"A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threeat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks. [Anybody surprised!]

"The classified national Intelligence Estimate attributes a more direct role to the Iraq war in fueling radicalism than that presented wither in recent White House documents or in a report released Wednesday by the House Intelligence Committee, according to several officials in Washington involved in preparing the assessment or who have read the final document.

"The intelligence estimate, completed in April, is the first formal appraisal of global terrorism by U.S. intelligence agencies since the Iraq war began, and represents a consensus view of the 16 disparate spy services inside government. Titled 'Trends in Global Terrorism Implications for the United States,' it asserts that ISLAMIC RADICALISM, rather than retreat, HAS METASTASIZED AND SPREAD ACROSS THE GLOBE. "

Donald Rumsfeld's Dance With the Nazis

Frank Rich NYT op-ed 9-3-06:

"...What made Mr. Rumsfeld's speech noteworthy wasn't its toxic effort to impugn the patriotism of administration critics by conflating dissent on Iraq with cut-and-run-run surrender and incipient treason. That's old news. No, what made Mr. Rumsfeld's performance special was the preview it offered of the amtitious propaganda campaign planned between now and Wlection Day. An on-the-ropes white House plans to stop at nothing when rewriting its record of defeat (not to be confused with defeatism) in a war that has now lasted longer than America's fight against the actual Nazis in World War II.

"Here's how brazen Mr. Rumsfeld was when he invoked Hitler's appeasers to score his cheap points: Since Hitler was photographed warmly shaking Neville Chamberlain's hand at Munich in 1938, the only image that comes close to matching it in epochal obsequiousness is the December 1983 photograph of Mr. Rumsfeld himself in Baghdad, warmly shaking the hand of Saddam Hussein in full fascist regalia. Is the defense secretary so deluded that he thought no one would remember a picture so easily Googled on the Web? Or worse, is he too shameless to care?..."
