Petraeus Takes Over Afghan fight, Vows 'to win' it
Are we "Winning" the War on Terror Yet?
"KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - "We are in this to win," Gen. David Petraeus said as he took the reins of an Afghan war effort troubled by waning support, an emboldened enemy, government corruption and a looming commitment to withdraw troops _ even with no sign of violence easing."
Just like we are "Winning" the "War on Drugs".
"We are engaged in a contest of wills," Petraeus said Sunday as he accepted the command of U.S. and NATO forces before several hundred U.S., coalition and Afghan officials who gathered on a grassy area outside NATO headquarters in Kabul.
I'm betting just like with Vietnam the "Home Team" comes out with the "Win". But what wil they win? What are are "we" trying to "win". Who exactly are we fighting again? People who are hiding in caves in a country with a GDP of $12 Billion mostly from drugs.
Thats is actually quite an entertaining statement. You think American Soldiers have more "Will" than suicide bombers who are waiting at the chance for a shot at their 72 Vigins? Advantage: Bad Guys
You can not legislate moral or beliefs. The United States is a bit over 200 years old. Anyone want to take a shot at how old the belief system is of the "Terriorists".
"After years of war, we have arrived at a critical moment," Petraeus said. "We must demonstrate to the Afghan people _ and to the world _ that al-Qaida and its network of extremist allies will not be allowed to once again establish sanctuaries in Afghanistan from which they can launch attacks on the Afghan people and on freedom-loving nations around the world."
That's some big talk. Is the United States going to set up permanent bases and keep funneling $4 Billion a month to fund this war against common sense?
How exactly are we protecting the Homeland by chasing people all over the world and trying to kill them because of their beliefs? While we are doing this... they get on planes and fly direct to Mexico and walk across the unprotected border. While we are doing this the board a plane from Africa and try to blow it up at the airport.
USA - Just keep kicking the dog... eventually the "War on Terrorism" will grow so large there will be no way in hell to stop it. You have to ask yourself why these people are so pissed off at the United States. Why? Because the United States just won't stay out of their business.
================= From another Site ========================
There is no "Extremest Muslim". It's the Muslim religion in General. Someone asked Colonel Allen West Why the Terrorist would warp a Religion (Islam) or pervert the teachings to attack America?
"We must realize that this is not a Religion we are fighting against, we are fighting against a theo-political belief construct, You're fighting aganist something that's been doing this thing since 622 AD..., You wanna dig up Charles Martel and ask him why he was fighting a Mulim army at the Battle of Tours in 732? You want to ask the Venitian Fleet at Leponto why they were fighting a Muslim fleet in 1571? You wanna ask the Germanic and Austrian Knights why they were fighting at the gates of Vienna in 1683? You wanna ask people what happened at Constantinople and why today it's called Istanbul because they lost that fight in 1453. You need to get into the Koran, you need to understand their precepts. You need to read the the Sura, you need to read the Hadis and then you can really understand [that] this is not a perversion. They are doing EXACTLY what this book says.
COMMENT COURTESY: Before you attack me about how wrong I am and how great it is to keep spending billions chasing the bad guys... take the time to write a nice comment about how we are "winning"... what we will "win" and how much more we should spend.
