Prison Is No Place To Be

Updated on December 26, 2014

I am writing this hub to the young men and women out there in the internet world. I'm not writing to "preach" at you or tell you what to do. I just want to share a bit of my experience and hopefully, you will learn something from it. I am also writing it to the parents and family of young men and women. Heck, the pastors, teachers and all others that have anything to do with young people should read this.

Why am I writing this you ask?

My lovely wife and I were out just driving the back roads here in Puerto Rico looking for good pictures and possible new hubs.

We came across the picture I am putting down below. Lastheart told me it was a children's prison. I was amazed at the security level. Look at the guard-tower. The guard sitting with a dog outside the fence stood and radioed immediately while the picture was being snapped. I figured we would be pulled over not far away, but we were not.

Why would there have to be so high of security for a children's prison? Why are we locking kids up like animals?

Here is the picture and I will explain my perceptions.

Why I Can Talk On This Subject

So you want to know what kind of degree I have in criminal justice? Am I an attorney, a judge, a psychologist or anything of the sort?

I have better credentials than any of those; first and foremost, I am born again by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Secondly, I am an ex-con who spent 4 years in prison and probably another 2-3 years in and out of other jails.

Who better to tell you why to not go, than someone who has been there?

I will first say, there may be a bad word or two here from quotes said to me. Please understand. This hub is about keeping kids out of prison, not worrying about a bad word or two.

Let's move on to the reasons I believe so many kids are in prison.

Family breakdown is the top cause in my opinion.

C'mon parents, care a bit will ya? Are your children putting there all into their school work? Are you checking on them? Are you spending quality time with your kids?

Your children don't need another "friend", they need their parents to be parents. The Bible states: Train up a child in the way he/she should go and in the end they won't depart from it. Are you worried about your kid's future? You should be!

Do I sound angry?

Children are the future, so put your work to the side a little; put down the television remote; put the beer back in the fridge and the pot pipe down and spend some time with your kids. They need you and believe it or not, you need them.

Peer Pressure

Now I am talking to you kids. I hope someone will show you all this.

Just because your "friend" thinks it cool to do a crime, be it drugs, a robbery or theft, whatever, if it's against the law, sooner or later, you will get caught!

Prison is not cool and you won't be "tougher" or "badder" just because you went to prison.

I was in for selling pot and a guy who murdered a few people told me something I will never forget when I was acting like a bad-ass. He stated that all the Bad Asses he knew were all dead. He is right, none of us are as tough as we think. Someone else is always bigger and badder. Just wait until you are caught in the shower alone with someone who hasn't had "relations" with someone in a few years and he thinks you are cute; whatcha gonna do then?

No, don't act like you'll fight out of it cause you don't really know. A big percentage give in and end up being the new girlfriend.

No, you don't want to try prison; trust me. Just say no to stealing that car or selling some dope. You'll be glad you did in the long run.

Why do you do those drugs? Don't you want something better? There is better! I know, I've seen both sides. There is a lot more to life than some ecstasy, LSD or pot. The coke and meth are controlled by the gates of hell and you will end up walking through them by playing with them.

If someone wants you to do crime with them, they are not your friend. You will surely find that out quickly if their neck is on the line; they will "rat" on you in a split second.

Preachers and Teachers

I must ask all of you to quit turning your eyes to reality.

You all know which kids are on a bad roll, but fear or something else is keeping you from stepping out and helping that kid.

Grow some!!! Would Jesus have stepped or looked away? The books cannot always tell you how to do it--well one book can, but because of government policies and the ACLU you are scared.

Your fear may have put some of these kids in this prison. You might have helped them; you saw it in their actions but you were scared and now they are locked up.

We all live this life once and once only. I would rather take my chances of making someone angry and even getting hurt or killed knowing I was doing the "right" thing, than looking the other way and doing nothing.

The Media

Television and movies have glorified criminals and prisons. It needs to stop! The truth needs to be heard and read!

Criminals die young, fast and horrible deaths.

We don't want children going like that. Jesus said that people that lead "little" ones down the wrong road would be better off with a millstone tied to their ankle and thrown into the deepest part of the ocean. By glorifying crime, you are doing exactly that.

Yes, I got fired up writing this hub; you see, one of my top hubs is: How To Survive in Prison. Why is that? Why do people need to know how to survive there? I would think that people would want to know how to stay out of prison.

Excuse me for this but:

Pull Your Heads Out of Your Butts!

There is an easy way to stay out of prison:

Don't Do Crime!

I love Jesus and I want to tell you that He has led me down the right road! Give your life and heart to Him and you will win, because He already won!

May all who read this hub share it with those who need to read it. I pray that the prison you see above and many others are tore down because they cannot put people in them because crime halts.

May God shine his light on mankind! Praise Jesus all mankind!
