Timothy M. Hogan

April Meeting Topic Education with Timothy M. Hogan Executive Direct Arizona Center of Law and the Public Interest

Timothy M. Hogan, Executive Director for the Arizona Center of Law in the Public Interest, will be speaking to the Sun City Democrat Club on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00 pm at Fairway Recreation Center.

He will be speaking on Proposition 123 which will be on the May ballot. As a lawyer, he has been observing the Arizona Land Trust for many years and the funding of public schools in Arizona. What are the reasons to vote in the affirmative or the negative on this? We’ll see what he has to say.

The Arizona State Land Commission manages approximately 9.2 million acres of Trust Lands within Arizona . The 1912 Federal Enabling Act provided that these lands be held in trust for the sole purpose of generating revenues of the 13 State Trust land beneficiaries. The largest of the trust fund recipients is K-12 education. May elections will bring this issue up to the voters. Be informed before you vote.

For twenty years, Mr. Hogan has worked tirelessly as the Center's Executive Director and lead counsel. During this time, the Center has won major victories for Arizonans in the areas of consumer rights, education, the environment and health care. Mr. Hogan also has been instrumental in the creation of Arizona's progressive energy standards, both for increased energy efficiency and the mandatory use of renewable energy resources. It is safe to say that without Mr. Hogan and the Center, there would be very little standing between Arizona citizens' best interest and the political corruption and corporate greed that has proliferated in our state.

Mr. Hogan has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his selfless devotion to the public interest. Most recently, in July 2011, Mr. Hogan received a prestigious award from the National Education Association for his work toward the achievement of equal opportunity for Hispanics.

Join us for this pertinent topic on Thursday, April 7th at 6:00 pm at Fairway Recreation Center.

Democratic Coffee at Starbucks

Coffee Mondays

Hey, we have a lively and fun group that meets every Monday for coffee. Meet up with us around 9:00 a.m. at the Starbucks at the corner of Bell and 99th Avenue.

We cover issues, and make plans to help elect Democrats. We also make social plans and are having fun with other like minded people.

Do invite other friends. Just this past weekend I worked a table for the Lifelong Learning at Fairway and learned that many of them are Democrats and they were interested in attending the coffee.

See you Mondays at 9:00 a.m. at Starbucks on the corner of 99th avenue and Bell!

Garage Sale Update

Thanks to everyone who helped, donated, or came to buy our merchandise. We took in $900.71, which is not as good as in previous years. We faced lots of competition this year, including a church rummage sale, just 3 blocks away. However, I think we should be happy to jave made the amount we did. The funds will be divided between the Sun City Democratic Club and Legislative District 21 Democrats, which is our legislative district. We know that the money will go for good uses.

Club members whose contributions were outstanding include: Shirley Bailey, Alice Bernstein, Joan Bradley, Darlene Difiglio, Dee Faules, Cindy Jaranson, Harold and Judy Lilley, Marsha McGovern, Shirley McAllister, and Marvin McCollum. Others who helped during the sale week were Sibyl Dunlap, Susan Hershberger, Barbara Hively, Debbie Joyce, Bobbie Kettles, Joyce Kirkham, Cathy Koukel, Deanna Rasmussen-Lacotta, Carolyn Modeen, Jeanett Robinson, Jacquie Rose, Roger Sax, Pat Scarlett and Bert Stewart. Those who donated have to remain nameless because we have no record of the donations. We could not have made any money without the wonderful merchandise you donated. What did not sell, has been donated to Valley View Food Bank’s thrift store.

Food Bank Donations Requested

In the past the Sun City Democratic Party has donated most generously to the Valley Food Bank. The need is still there. Everyone is asked to bring a donation to our meetings for the Valley Food Bank.

Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Food Bank. Your help is very much appreciated and the items are used locally.

Thank you!

President Vance Coleman

We Are Meeting ALL Summer

By popular request your Sun City Democratic Club will continue to meet all summer in 2016.

So, plan on attending our meetings every first Thursday of the month at Fairway. Mark your calendars and invite your friends and neighbors. There are so many people interested in our club and they surround you at the various events you are involved in. Let it be known that you are a Democratic supporter and that they are welcome at our events.

See you ALL Summer at the Sun City Democratic Meetings!

Election Year

This is a very important election year for our country. Whether we move forward and keep our Blue Democratic values in place or whether we take our country backwards is at stake.

Everyone of us counts. Not only our votes but our abilities to keep our values alive and known. Each of you knows what strengths you bring to the table.

We are asking each of you to take what you are good at doing and use it to help us go as BLUE as possible. Look for volunteer opportunities, put that election sign in your yard, speak up at injustice when you hear it.

Lies are everywhere and it is our duty to counter thmem whenever we can. Heck., Justice Sotomeyer had to correct another Supreme Court Justice on a lie he told about the Affordable Care Act. We can do this on our much smaller scale.

YOU ARE NEEDED! Take a moment to let us know what you are doing or want to do in the comments section below.
