Republican Denial of Global Warming is Starving School Children Across the Country

Updated on February 15, 2010

Back-to-back snowstorms caused by the Republicans refusing to accept man made global warming and pass Cap and Trade Legislation is literally starving thousands of children in the Mid-Atlantic States.

Marla Caplon the food services supervisor for Montgomery County Public Schools is worried about how would student’s eats? Caplon said “the two snowstorms that pummeled the region, leaving more than 3 feet of snow in some areas, deprived tens of thousands of children from Virginia to Pennsylvania of the free or reduced-price school lunch that may be their only nutritious meal of the day.” What, because of school closings these students are now going to starve. What about the parents; aren’t they responsible for feeding their own children. I forgot, according to Hillary it takes a village to raise a child so now it takes a school system to feed one!

If only those Wascally Wepublicans would have accepted the fact global warming was our fault and passed Cap and Trade these poor kids wouldn’t be starving today! In addition to the school closings the nonprofits that try to meet the need when school is not in session also closed their doors for much of the week, leaving many families looking at bare cupboards. So if the schools can’t feed the children and the non profits can’t feed the kids according to Caplon, then the kids starve. Good God; how did we ever get to this point in today’s society. The parents chose to have the kids and it’s the parent’s responsibility to take care of them not the schools and not the non profits!

Caplon put the number of children at risk at 43,000! The programs that were cancelled because of the insensitive Republicans provide free breakfast, lunches and bags of staple foods to take home for the weekend. Did you realize you were providing free breakfasts and lunches for the children of families you are already providing with food stamps to feed themselves and their children? This to me is incredulous; no wonder childhood obesity is a problem in this country!

In addition to the figures cited by Caplon, Philadelphia public schools provide nearly 86,000 free lunches every day; Baltimore, provides an estimated 50,000; the District of Columbia, accounts for 32,000 each day. That’s a total of 168,000 free lunches plus the 43,000 admitted to by Caplon for a whopping 211,000 starving children thanks to the Republicans refusal to accept the Global Warming Premise and pass Cap and Trade!

Remember that old saying there’s no such thing as a free lunch, well nationwide; about 19.4 million students received free lunches on a typical school day last year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. So if you look at this crisis on a nationwide basis, because of the Republicans absolute refusal to accept the premise of manmade global warming and do something about it by passing Cap and Trade 19.4 million school aged children are going hungry!

Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead; that's been Obama, Pelosi and Reid's motto since January 2009 and look where it's landed them?

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't! If there truly are children starving because of negligent parents, perhaps those parents need to be held responsible. It is not the job of others, and it should not take a Village to raise every child in America!! You know exactly what those Democrats are about when they can't wait to blame others for this alleged problem. One day they blame Republicans for all the overweight kids, next day blame them for all the starving kids,, as I said,,,

Damned if you do ,,, Damned if you don't!

It is indeed a bizarre system; you’re in poverty SUPPOSEDLY because you cannot take care of yourself so the government steps in and feeds you. Now instead of looking for work you lie around all day and have more babies so the government gives you more money to feed the babies. Now when these kids go to school the government has to provide free breakfast and lunches so the kids can eat because the additional money the government gave you in order to feed the kids you had while laying around all day having them instead of looking for work you spent on drugs and alcohol.

And the party that depends on this block vote continues to clamor for more money to help these BABY MACHINES as well as more money for the schools these babies go to when they become of age in order to eat; not get an education. You don’t need an education to lie around all day and have babies.

The only hope to rectify this situation is to vote out every Democrat; they will never fix this problem; the end result of this problem keeps them in power!

It is sad that we as a society have come to accept this as the norm; more and more children are born into this situation every day and the system has evolved into a bizarre have babies for profit system!

In a way these welfare recipients have become entrepreneurs with their babies serving as their means to acquire wealth; the more kids the more money with absolutely no responsibility attached as far as raising the kids is concerned!

Good old Hillary tried to tell us what they were all about in her book; it Takes a Village. Well what we missed was the hidden meaning in the book; It Takes a Village IDIOT to rule a country in this manner!

I have to agree that parents are the ones responsible for feeding the children. It seems the ones on welfare with food stamps keep having more children, which means more money and food stamps. Why don't they make them get birth control shots and drug tests that are negative to even get help. Then there should be a time limit where they have to get training and get a jog. I saw women come in and have babies when I was in nursing with their live in working boyfriends all the time. Why aren't they feeding their own kids. Beer and drugs is one reason. We live in a screwed up society. Good hub.

It is said to say, some liberal thinking, unresponsible parents rely on schools to feed their children. The get free breakfast and lunch. Without these, these children basically go without.

They feel they do not need to be responsible and take care of the children as our parents did. "Its a new world, they can do what they want!"

We need to teach responsibility, and get rid of these liberals.

      Keep on hubbing!

Just another example of the government taking over areas of responsibility that rightly belong with the parents. Enough is enough! Great hub!

The days of responsibility have long since departed; now it's a big game everywhere to see how much you can milk the system for; the more you get the better player you are. This country's days are numbered unless we somehow restore a sense of responsibility in the majority of our citizens and then vote the something for nothing crowd out.

This info is not too surprising to me. The school where my husband works is an inner city (at least as inner city as the capital of WV can be) and they offer free meals during the summer while a summer program is in session. Any child in the neighborhood can come and eat free. It is another example of schools being forced to be parents because the parents don't care enough to do their job. Around here, it is a badge of honor to have a "special needs" child, because you get more welfare money. It sickens me!! In the Kanawha County school system where my husband and I work, the high schools used the infamous STIMULUS funds to hire--for 2 years--graduation coaches!!! These folks basically oversee kids completing failed classes on the computer to earn credits needed for graduation. It is called "credit recovery". Sounds to me like a great reason to skip writing a term paper when you can make up the credit online with NO PAPER required. I thought--foolishly I guess--that it was the JOB OF THE PARENT to make sure their kids do the work while taking the class and pass the old-fashioned way. Those stimulus funds COULD have been used in a far wiser way- IMO!!!

It's simply bizarre that the ag dept is in charge of free lunch programs. I can't find either in my pocket constitution.
