COFFEE! Mondays at 9am at Starbucks
We are a growing bunch. Join us every Monday at 9am at the Starbucks at 99th Avenue and Bell Road for coffee and conversation.
The conversation is lively, convivial, and very very interesting! Learn what your fellow Democratic Party Members (oh, and Independents) are up to. Get to know some new friends.
From this group we have grown the SCDC. Our group has varied interests from working the Caucus in Nevada, working here in Arizona on projects, serving food to the needy, and of course, joining each other for concerts and art events. Find a new friend while having some good coffee. Open to RCSC members and guests.
See you there!
Meet the Corporation Commission Candidates
Meet the Corporation Commission Candidates
Meet three candidates for the Arizona Corporation Commission at the Sun City Democratic Club on Thursday, March 3rd at 6pm at Fairway Recreation Center at Del Webb and Peoria.
Tired of the" same old same old" at the Corporation Commission? Remember when Sun City voted nearly 100% on the EPCOR water issue and the Corporation Commission still went with EPCOR? Our water bills increased. Here is your chance to do something.
Meet the candidates for corporation; Bill Mundell, Tom Chabin, and William Foster. Tell them how you feel about your water bills and also advise them about the upcoming power bill changes that could increase your power bills based on your highest use during a month NOT on your actual use. (The case is UniSource Energy Services in Mohave and Santa Cruz counties. This was on the front page of the Arizona Republic Thursday, February 18th.)
During the last election millions of dollars were spent to put people on the corporation commission who seem to favor the utility companies OVER the people.
This is an important issue. Invite your neighbors. Show them how Democrats work for the people and NOT the corporations. Open to RCSC members and guests.
See you Thursday, March 3 at Fairway Recreation Center at 6pm.
UPDATE: In the Arizona Republic Friday, February 26th Business Section (p. 16A):
"Two Democrats launch bids to be utility regulators...... APS is widely believed to have contributed to the $3.2 million in anonymous "dark money" that independent political groups spending in 2014 helping Republicans......"
Meet these candidates at our March SCDC meeting!

Millennials? Want to Know More?
On Thursday, February 18th there was an excellent piece on the Diane Rehm Show on who the Millennials are demographically. How they think and their unique view.
Gleaned from the show were these interesting points:
1. Millennials do NOT want religion forced on them by government
2. Millennials are the largest demographic group in the USA right now
3. They do not feel the LGBT issue is about anything but equal rights and 70-80% think all LGBT should have equal rights.
4. They are drowning in college debt.
5. They are the most diverse group in the history of the USA.
There is a great deal more. You can listen to the one hour show at the Diane Rehm site: http://thedianerehmshow.org/
Garage Sale NEEDS YOU!
THE Democratic Garage Sale will take place March 18th and 19th this year. Originally the plan was for April but we are hooking onto a neighborhood sale that will give us excellent traffic.
We need volunteers to help at the sale as well as merchandise to sell. You may deliver goods starting Sunday March 13th. The sale location is 9904 Raintree Drive (off Prairie Hills between Boswell and 103rd Avenue in Sun City.
Thanks to Marsha for hosting our sale this year. Let all of us contribute to the merchandise and help out too.
Merchandise for the sale can be delivered on Sunday March 13th and help is needed for the actual sales days of March 18th and 19th.
See you there!
Private Prisons Information Continued...
This just in from Nancee Noel regarding our past speaker on the inequities of for profit prisons:
The web page is a series of art work penned by prisoners of people who should be in prison. The website features the artwork and promotes the book "Captured."
Ann Kirkpatrick Visit UPDATE!
It was suggested to Shirley MacAllister, by some of you that we should work together to bring Rep Ann Kirkpatrick to the West Valley. Consequently, I have contacted her office, offering to coordinate such a visit. We now have a proposed date—Saturday, April 30. Vance has reserved two adjoining rooms (Arizona rooms 3 and 4) at Fairway Recreation Center, 10600 W Peoria Ave (NE intersection of 107th and Peoria Avenues) for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30. With the Sun City Democratic Club reserving the rooms, there is no room cost. I hope these plans will meet the approval of others who might wish to support Ann.
Pass this information on to EVERY organization you belong to! We certainly want good turnout.
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Shirley for working on this.
