Sequester: Oppan Tea Party Style
Oppan TP Style
Orwell's Dream
Up is Down
It is simply incredible to me how the mass mind is brainwashed by TV, radio and the written word. Of course, my theory is that people believe what their emotions tell them, and find the evidence to support it later. Ego-driven delusion, as my shrink would say.
Let us go back to where this sequester began, shall we?
The Budget Control Act of 2011 (Pub.L. 112–25, S. 365, 125 Stat. 240, enacted August 2, 2011) is a federal statute in the United States that was signed into law by President Barack Obama on August 2, 2011. The Act brought conclusion to the 2011 United States debt-ceiling crisis, which had threatened to lead the United States into sovereign default on or about August 3, 2011.
The Sequester Is a Republican-Inflicted Wound
"It is a direct result of the insistence by GOP leaders in the summer of 2011 that they would not raise the federal debt ceiling unless President Obama agreed to dramatic spending cuts."

Trust Us....
There you have it people......The simple truth, and I am shocked no one remembers......snark.
Please my fellow Americans, please.
Remember that since passage of The New Deal, a certain sect of the GOP has wanted to destroy it.
Why, here's one of them!:
- "Ronald Reagan, Hollywood film actor; strong New Dealer in 1940s; started opposing New Deal programs in the 1950s as a corporate spokesman for the General Electric company."
Factually, many liberals opposed it too...they said it didn't go far enough to help the poor.
But, in THIS country.....ANY little bit allowed for the poor is like pulling teeth. I say Roosevelt did a good thing.
And I say President Obama tries to do good things, too. I say he is blocked continuously by a group of infiltraitors, who see America as their private ATM.
Bank of Americans
We Care...Really
So, let us get this straight, please:
The Sequester is in place, because it was used as black-mail by the GOP: Their bargaining chip, if you will, so they would agree to raise the debt ceiling....oddly, something they have done many times before under Republican Presidents.
Obama says Reagan raised debt ceiling 18 times; George W. Bush seven times
Own It
Yes, Republicans, this is YOUR baby...you own it. I suggest you enjoy it, as your members in Congress did the other day.
“This will be the first significant tea party victory in that we got what we set out to do in changing Washington,” said Rep. Tim Huelskamp (Kan.), a tea party Republican elected in 2010.
Shared Sacrifice
Stop deflecting and re-directing. Your goal is to cut government spending, and no tax increases for revenue.
Own it, and live with the consequences of it.
Unfortunately, most of you won't feel a thing. Because, while thousands are furloughed http://www.govexec.com/management/2013/02/furlough-watch-potential-agency-agency-impacts-sequestration/61535/, and programs for working moms cut http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/sequester-will-take-a-bite-out-of-head-start/article_288c8857-d9d2-508b-bd40-b407c6b08603.html, Representative Huelskamp is getting a raise this month.
So, as with most things Republican lately, I say: enjoy, and NOW, maybe you can stop.
Waaaaaaaa!
Unequal pain and suffering
"As the “sequester” unfolds in Washington, we see this same old pattern holding firm: Republican leaders, now hustling to shirk responsibility for the catastrophe they predicted, insist those automated budget axes won’t do any damage at all."
Unequal benefits the sequester protects
"Of the many injustices that permeate America’s byzantine tax code, few are as outrageous as the tax rate on “carried interest” — the profits made by private equity and hedge fund managers, as well as venture capitalists and partners in real estate investment trusts. This huge tax benefit enriches an already privileged sliver of financiers and violates basic standards of fairness and common sense."
Daddy's Warbucks
"In an email, Koch brothers’ front group, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), sent congratulations to Republicans and their supporters around the country for helping push sequester cuts AFP says are “an important step forward for economic growth.” The email continued, “Americans for Prosperity thanks Speaker John Boehner and House Republicans for standing up to President Obama and making sure the $85 billion in much-needed sequester spending cuts took effect,” and it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Koch brothers and Republicans own the sequester and are giddy at the prospect of a recession and killing millions of jobs. One aspect of sequester cuts little mentioned is that the devastating $85 billion for 2013 is just the beginning of greater domestic spending cuts, devastating effects on anti-poverty programs, Medicare, and without cessation, the end of recovery."

Ooops....
"In an exclusive interview with Jake Tapper on CNN, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) replied to a question about the sequester by admitting that Obama ‘didn’t want the cuts.’
BOEHNER: And so, he (Obama) forced this process to occur. And insisted –
TAPPER: But he didn’t want the sequester cuts –
BOEHNER: Well, no, he didn’t want the cuts, but uh, uh, oh, we have the sequester as a result of his demands."

In Parting
As I write this, Jan 16, 2019.....we are in the midst of yet another Republican government shutdown.
My feeling is they will do it over and over and over again, until we cannot recover.
Remember, their mantra is "shrink the government, grow outsourced bank accounts".
It won't work, and this time they have gone too far.
This time, we put in safeguards against them.
The Greedy Republicans Control Act of 2019. Wait for it.
Sponsored by grateful immigrants who actually give a damn.
