Serbian Elections: Serbia Local, Parliament, and Presidental - 2012
Serbia is now candidate country of EU
The biggest opposition party, Tomislav Nikolic - is the biggest "enemy" of current Government.
Their biggest arguments for: "Why to choose them?" are : big unemployment rate, corruption, giving away "south-part of Serbia" - Kosovo, being vassal of EU and "marionette of Brussels and Washington" - giving part of country for "candidate status" ...
Tomislav Nikolic comes from newly born party, that came from breakage of Radical Party - where Serbian Advanced Party separated from them, having Tomislav Nikolic on head - on one side, and having Vojislav Seselj on other side - Radical Party.
Tomislav Nikolic was long friend with Seselj, that is now in International Court in Hague, and it is very unsure what are his plans. Three years ago, he was the one that was saying: "There should be no more talks with EU." , and three years after - today, saying that Serbia has to be part of EU, with main goal : "Going in to negotiations with EU. And cooperating with West and East.". But Serbia, once again, for who know what time has been between two major forces, on breakthrough of two sides.
People are skeptic. Most of people do believe that Serbia should join EU, but around 80% of people do NOT want to be part of NATO alliance. Maybe, maybe the wounds are still fresh.
So, once again - big promises have been already told from two major parties. But, there are some suggestions that there will be some surprises like "Liberal Party" on head with Cedomir Jovanovic. Liberal Party is also fairly new, came from brake of Democratic Party - where 3. parties came apart. Democratic Party of Serbia, Democratic Party, and Liberal Party.
Liberals come with coalition name "PREOKRET" which means, "TURNOVER". The original idea is to work on our-self's, to do the turnover in our heads and that Serbia has to go in to EU: "NO MATTER WHAT", to join into NATO - "No matter what!". Jovanovic is mainly considered as a best man that can continue idea of Zoran Djindjic - assassinated prime-minister.
4 Years After
After four years of Democratic Party the majority in Serbian Parliament, and after four years of having president from Democratic Party, Boris Tadic - Serbian people will, once again, choose between past and future, between left and right.
These elections are scheduled on all levels; local, state and parliament. People will choose their leaders on big date for Serbian nation - on 6th of Maj, big day/holiday for whole Serbian civilization : "Djurdjevdan". These are the ninth democratic elections, since democratic changes in Serbia.
Serbian people will have to choose between current party, Democratic Party, and opposition party called Serbian Advanced Party - with their leader Tomislav Nikolic.
Boris Tadic, still the current president of Serbia, has been elected twice until now. This would be the third time that Tadic would take the place in Presindental Palace.
Serbian people live hard. Life standard, and bruto BGP haven't grown so much since last elections, but there have been major improvements in field of partnership with EU and USA.
Serbia has been accepted in Visa-free zone, Serbia has gained on March 3th the status of "candidate" for EU. Also, there has been some major investments in country. Auto industry has been renewed, since "Zastava" auto-factory has bankrupted, giant company from Italy bought it and "Fiat" is now producing the latest model of it's cars. So, car industry has been renewed and Kragujevac, the city where "Fiat" company is situated, has now less unemployed people. Unemployment has been brought down, but not enough - not what has been expected. Unemployment problem is the first thing that next government has to tackle. Some 26% of people are unemployed. But, again, there has been major investments that employed high-educated young personnel. "Fiat" , "NCR" , "Panasonic", "Continental" , "Ikea" and other big names are just one of the names that are doing good business, and employ young people.
In same time, this government has done some investments in infrastructure. Around 150km of new highroad, the "Koridor 10" that should connect South-East and North part of Serbia, new roads around Serbia, and new bridge in Belgrade that has been subject of research even for "National Geographic".
Once again, on ninth elections - people will have to choose between past and future. Going into EU, or turning and leaning on Russia and Eastern countries. So far, people were for EU and pro-European integrations, and pro-Atlantic integrations (NATO), but 12 years of waiting did "the job". People can't wait no more. There has to be something done with life-standard in Serbia.
People are having second-thoughts about joining EU, because of "demands" of EU. Having completed all requirements for EU, Serbia will face another big issue - issue of Kosovo, and having good bilateral conditions with south province. Economy, unemployment and Kosovo will be the biggest issue that next Government - whoever will build it - have to tackle.
