Should Corporations have the same rights as citizens?

The three branch of government
The three branch of government

We need more checks and balances not corporate control.

Should corporations have the same rights as citizens. Published Sept 12 / 2009 Edited in 2012 Edited March 7/ 2018: We live under a political system where power is divided between True Power, Apparent Power & Reactive Power. These three forms of powers can be called the power triangle. Under such system anyone who said to have had apparent power must have demonstrated the ability to have caused the public to react. These folks usually hold some sort of leadership position in society.

These people are: some members of the legislative branch, the judicial and executive branch of our government. The public depends on these distinguish gentlemen to carry out their demands. However, these gentlemen are sometimes influenced by True Power (Big Corporations) which can attract these authorities to disregard the interest of the public for personal endeavors. We the people hold the legislative branch of our government responsible for any result that intercept public demand; for they're the branch liable for government accountability.
True Power is defined as corporate influence; those corporations that possess (TP) are known to have exercised their power through the process of lobbying. They are considered hg true Power mainly because of their large capital flow which can attract political influence. Due to their large capital flow they can draw a great amount of influence, and depending on the amount of capital they have invested within the field of society, dictate the strength of their Power. Hubpages : Although corporations are partly the main contributors to our economic viability; according to the constitution their interest should not come before that of the public. But they do play an important role in our society because without businesses government would have no one to govern; unless of-course it was a communist state where all businesses are control and ruled by government. Since we are not running a communist state; we live in a country where a large proportion of the population work for corporations. Therefore, corporations, small and medium size businesses are the life source (power system ) that keeps society alive and functional.

Since a government consist of a body of people; as a society it is always refreshing to remember that the differences that exist between public governance and the organizational governance is very slim. The corporation consist of a body of people who write the policies they wish the government to introduce. The government regulate rules of conduct to better assist the corporation with public interest in mind. The corporation has a system of organization that organized around investor's interest as a primary concern. In so doing, it makes all sort of legal organization and corporation a form of government functioning outside the policies of public concerns to better serve the corporation. But not all of their policies are mutually exclusive to the public, some are rather very familiar.

In that respect, almost every individual; self employ or not is dependent upon some form of government to conduct their everyday activities. It’s a network of governmental procedures that shares the same public domain as the corporation. Some are more regulated than others, nonetheless all industries are codependent on each other to maintain the basic function of a well organized business policy. For that reason, every one of them depend on a higher level of government for support.

As an example: Peoplebreeze.LLC is a small arrival E-Commerce Marketing & Sales business. The website is built on the platform of a bigger marketing agent;, while Cloudflare a web hosting company route our peoplebreeze's domain through their global network; which is powered by 23 data station across the world. That is the co-dependency that exist among companies all across the world in our present time.

It is from that standpoint, that peoplebreeze's success is as important to cloudflare as it is to wordpress or google. So long as the revenues of peoplebreeze are shared within that network; it is a partnership. The same principle applies to hard skilled labor. It is a social system of governance where protocols are applied to maintain a distribution of information that is secured by a superior government - Cloudflare, Wordpress, Google for others Microsoft.

The Public is there to protect corporate interest to a certain extent, because without a growing economy we the public will meet catastrophic circumstances. Thus, it is undoubtedly important for Apparent Power (AP) which are members of the three branches of our government; among which include specifically congressmen and the president to act on behalf of public interest while negotiating with True Power; the Corporations for better prospects.

On that note, within that negotiation the public voice should not be “foreign” in foreign policy, but instead a voice that remind government officials that the corporate interest must also benefit the public interest, and that without such union the magnetic field of Reactive Power (we the people) can polarize congressional districts to behave respectfully as a mean to make our voices heard strong enough to change public policies. It is understood by "we the people" the interest of the corporation must be protected so that our economy can continue to prosper; it should not be in our leader's interest to give preferences to corporate interest before our citizens.

One of our most important concern is that it isn't in our people's interest to have corporations select for us who our next president should be. We the people do not want corporations to have any type of influence over our presidential candidates. It should be the people's choice to select their president; so that the Electoral College can vote accordingly. This article was written before corporation became free citizens; where they can now contribute to presidential campaign. Since we do not operate under a direct democracy; it is the Electoral College who has the power to choose who the next president will be. However, we rather have it that way than to have corporation dictate to our electoral college who the next president should be.

If corporation where to become an individual with all the civil rights as our citizens it would be reasonable to think that corporation would choose a president that support their business practices rather than a president that the people want. Since corporation’s pockets are deep; they influence over congressional districts would have also reflect that depth. Corporation has too much power as it is to be considered an individual. If that were to be the case, it may become very difficult to regulate the business practices of some corporations.

In the history of America this has never been the case. On the contrary; our history has proven that the rights of corporations had been more restricted due to lack of trust. It seem as though the game has changed direction through this process of laissez-faire capitalist ideology. It is now all about profit, profit, profit - meanwhile our citizens are working harder and are becoming more in debt.
We the people can be refer to as the Reactive Power, because when things do not go our way we react. That's what we represent; we are the resistance that prevents True Power (TP) from completely influencing Apparent Power (AP).

In order for members of our government to have had AP we the people should continue to closely monitor the influences of True Power over policies that maa impose a negative consequence over our lives. If TP is the current which dissipate within the circuitry of our society; than we the people represent the resistance that drop the reactant force of the current from completely magnetizing Apparent Power (government officials) to have them serve them, and not the people. Without the strength of our Reactive Power (RP); the means of production for true Power (TP) is achieved through their forceful provocation. We must continue to pressure members of congress & the president so that the interest of corporation also benefit that of the public.

For example, we the people can pressure Barack Obama NOT to support destructive policies such as the “Card Check” scheme that will subject workers to union intimidation and retaliation should they fail to say yes to join a union. The above mentioned from the legal defense foundation is the power of action; our ability to react as a society to protect our livelihood is now known as Reactive Power. We are certain that those of us who are the guardian of Reactive Power (RP), those of us who are well-informed of our government way about must have heard that Corporation wants to claim their independence.

By that we mean they want the same civil rights as a regular citizen. They want the right to free speech, the right to own property and the right to fund government officials elections. What we asked of the citizens of this country; Reactive Power (RP) is that - do you really want our government to give those rights to corporation? This is where we play our parts as Reactive Power. We the people have what we’ve described as Reactive Power (RP), which mean together we have the power to resist TP's attempt to gain total control of our government by protesting against their interest when it doesn’t coincide with ours.

Since human beings in the United States have a corporate identity, it would only make sense that corporations have the same Rights as humans. YOUR NAME in capital letters is a fictitious corporate strawman. Any other designation for corporations would open a huge can of worms!

Sure the corporations should have the same rights as citizens. Since these days, citizens have their rights eroded by the corporations, I think it would be "fitting" that the corps should experience the same thing!

I don't feel free speech is drown out by corporations. The media is a corporation also and you wouldn't want the government controlling thier speech. The first admendment protects free speech who ever it is who is speaking, whether an individual or a group of individuals making up a corporation. The key here is that the "speech" is protected , the first admendment says nothing of the speaker

The civil rights of corporations are so strong that the entities are now the major political players in this country. Almost two-thirds of the money that puts people into federal office today comes from corporations. They effectively elect our government — certainly more effectively than the people do. And as a consequence, the corporations now have more power than the people of this country. That is why the burden of taxation in America has shifted so dramatically from corporations to individual citizens, along with causing a thousand other ills.

The planning out of civilization cannot and should not be the perogative of corporations alone.I wrote a hub on the subject of corporations and their alledged rights as living persons which they can never be despite what the judicial system says.

Corporations were created by people.People were not created by corporations. At least not without perpetrating some kind of fraud on the people.

Hi Coolbreezing It has been awhile ! I am sad to say that Corporations and multinationals already run our Government . Because most of the campaign contributions and gifts a candidate recieves Is through the Corporations lobby

And nowadays a congressperson or Senator seems to put the welfare of Big Money over the Interest of a officials constituency .That I also think Is part of the anger that Is playing from the citizens that you see on the news these days . I hope the officials are getting nervous . I am tired of their arrogance ! But good stuff Coolbreezing !

      Hi! Loua

I know what you mean Loua but we do not operate under a direct democracy. At least it is up to the electoral college to decide. However, if corporations were to become individuals with all our rights, it's possible that they could have influence them easier. We know that corporations do influence some member of congress but it's a little harder under our current laws. WE want to keep it that way. The more Reactive Power our citizens have, the better off we are.

I think we already lost that battle when they designed the electoral college to supersede public votes...
