Status Conscious Societies

Updated on October 20, 2009

Man is considered to be a social animal and a society no doubt benefits its inhabitants but these days, people are only using this social platform to run a race of status in which their parameters are status symbols. Being social does not mean to categorize people in different social classes on the basis of their materialistic development, their success in their pursuits of wealth or the exploitation of the poor by them. These days the people around us are so much status conscious that they have even started to judge the character of a person on account of his or her residential house, its location, bank balance, the condition and size of the car, the model and salient functions of the mobile phone and above all apparel.

Although it is bitter yet it is a fact that every one of us is practicing this malpractice. But the question arises: why this malpractice it prevalent in the society on such a large scale? The possible factors responsible for all this are none other than the lust for wealth, cheap popularity, ostentatious behavior, exploitation of the poor by the rich and above all the effort to prove our superiority over others around us. In spite of our so-called claims of being Muslims we have totally ignored the teachings of Islam and the true spirit of being a Muslim. Although we know that Islam is a complete code of life yet we do not bother to take guidance from it rather now we pay homage to the Holy Quran considering it a Holy Book and placing it in some upper shelf. In this regard, we have also forgotten the holy words of our beloved Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H), according to which no one is superior to another on the basis of cast, color, or creed and the standard of superiority is piety.

We should be proud of our matchless religion that lays emphasis on the equality of rights and really esteems the self-respect of every individual without leaving him / her in inferiority complex on the basis of social status. To add more to our pride we have the practical demonstration of leading an ideal life in the light of the God's Messages i.e. Quranic Verses, in the form of the Holy Sunnah that is undoubtedly a guiding light for the Muslims of the whole world. But I feel that it is our misfortune that we are straying now-a-days from the guided path due to our own negligence and trying to follow those people who are still ignorant of the eternal teachings of Islam.

The need of the hour is to ignore these so called levels of status and the social class differences and to make some earnest endeavors to attain the only standard of superiority referred by the greatest reformer of the world. Moreover, the path that leads to such a standard is quite away from the materialistic pursuits of our day to day life but it is quite attainable by molding our lives according to the teachings of Islam and by following our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) in his footsteps. May God raise our standard of piety!

For God all the humans are equal but only those are favorite or loved a lot by God who obey it and spend their lives according to the will of Almighty

We are all equal before God. It is indeed a societal issue. The christains and muslims are guilty of this offence. We worship money and ignore the less priviledged in our midsts.
