Sun City Democratic Club January 2018 Read & KNOW!

Updated on January 1, 2018

For LD21 residents - we are in Congressional District 8 (CD8). Governor Ducey announced the special election dates for the seat Trent Franks resigned from. The primary will be 27 February, 2018 and the general will be 24 April, 2018.
Also, Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes published final dates for voter registration for each election. Must be registered by 29 January, 2018 for primary and 26 March, 2018 for general for special election. If you are already signed up for PEVL you will automatically get your ballot by mail for the special election.
Each candidate running for this office must get 665 valid signatures specifically for the special election & turn them in by Jan. 10, 2018. That doesn't give much time. There should be a new place on the online signature page with the Secretary of State to sign candidate petitions. We will also try to get some paper ones. If you already signed for a candidate for this position for the August election, you can sign again for the Special election & pick a different candidate. The Special Election is a separate election. Talk to your family, friends and neighbors. Let's get out there and engage the voters!

Environment Program on what Arizona CAN DO!

The January 4th Sun City Democratic Meeting at 6pm at Fairway Recreation Center will be Clean Buses for Healthy Ninos by Veronica Monge.

This is a campaign by the League of Women Voters. Did you know that Arizona's air is filled with toxic nitrogen oxides and that over 300,000 kids are exposed every day to one of the country's worst sources of pollution due to the dirty diesel burning fuel school buses?

Did you also know that of the $4.7 billion fined to Volkswagon for cheating on their emission tests that Arizona will receive $57 million to invest in clean air!

Veronica Monge will share her story about how she became an activist for zero emissions buses and an advocate for kids riding the dirty school buses as well as the residents who live and work near the school bus parking areas.

Mrs. Monge will ask for help in this campaign. Here is a link for more information:

Also at the meeting, January Contreras who is the Candidate for Attorney General will describe the responsibilities of the office and offer her vision of change. She will also present her qualifications. She has no primary opponent.

Note the Recycling program originally planned from Parks & Sons and Berry Masloff from RCSC was cancelled and will be re-scheduled.

Please invite your neighbors and friends to attend our Sun city Democratic Club meetings and events. ALL RCSC members and their guests are invited! We are having A LOT of interest in our club now and this is an excellent time to invite friends and neighbors.

We take over Starbucks EVERY Monday morning

See YOU there!

Coffee with Democrats

We meet every Monday that Starbucks is open for coffee at 9:00 am. Join our burgeoning and convivial group of like thinkers at the Starbucks on the corner of 99th Avenue and Bell right here in Sun City.

We regularly have candidates visit with us and form groups to take ACTION at this informal coffee social event. Building friendships and bonds help make our party stronger and create action events. Join us and make new friends as well as get to know people!

Make YOUR sign!

Call to Action if Mueller is FIRED!

A CALL TO ACTION---just in case

It seems Trump may be poised to do his worst, and try to fire Mueller. We know he certainly would like to!

If that happens---with a definite announcement from the White House and the press, not just hints and warnings-----we must be ready to react quickly, and locally.

A national call for immediate protest has gone out from MoveOn and other groups. "Nobody is Above the Law."

THAT VERY DAY, and for days after, let's be prepared to meet at all 4 corners of Bell and 99th, Sun City, at 4 PM.

A bigger crowd could spread toward Boswell. If it happens in the morning, people could even go at noon.

A captive audience of rush hour drivers.

Close to home for all of us, no need to go downtown.

We take to the streets in our own neighborhood.

Signs should be made and ready. (Impeach. Stop the Tyrant. Treason. This is Not a Dictatorship, etc.) Unfortunately, they will no doubt be used again and again in the coming months.

See you there, in strong and peaceful protest.

Sun City Member Thank You

  • December 29, 2017

Hello Sun City Dem. Club Members,
As 2017 comes to a close it is a time to look back over the year’s social activities ……the April B-B-Q, May Spring Fling dinner, September Ice Cream Social and most recently our December 7th Holiday Party at the Palmbrook Country Club.
The enjoyment of these events comes from the spirit and fellowship of those attending. The value of social time is as an antidote to the craziness and anxiety of our current political landscape.
There are many people I would like to thank for their generous time and support which makes these occasions and our monthly meeting social time possible. These members provide ideas, organize, sell tickets, set up refreshments and clean up, and much more…..Cheryl Drake, Sibyl Dunlap, Susan Hershberger, Judy Jondahl, Jim Joyce, Marsha McGovern, Connie Plumer, Pat Tonnema, Vi Zapeda, and Don Zoss. Special thanks also to all of you who have contributed delicious food and assistance to our monthly meetings!
Wishing you all a Happy New Year! May 2018 be a year of Democratic successes!

With Appreciation,
Debra Joyce, Hospitality Committee
