Take Time To Think...

Updated on August 23, 2012

As Things Get Uglier

Lately I seem to be running a bit short on Pinocchio's to award Team Obama concerning their blatantly false and misleading campaign ads aimed at Mitt Romney. This is only the end of August so I do expect things to get worse as Obama gets more desperate. This campaign only goes to show the American people what will happen when they elect the most unqualified, inexperienced candidate possible to be the CEO of this great nation of ours. When the jig is up and he has a failed record, such as Obama's, then one has the tendency to make things up even though the present occupant of The People's House just claimed in his "fit of anger" press conference that he learned not to do that as the POTUS. It was evidently totally okay before he was elected but he learned not to after he was elected and not before?

What I speak of in this article has to do with two ads that Team Obama has been running the past couple of weeks which at best are misleading. You can't pack too many actual "FACTS" into 30 second sound bites so the Team just seems to totally ignore them. I also realize that math isn't usually a strong suit in Liberalville and both of these ads deal with mathematics though not of the complex sort. Lets watch the first ad and then analyze the truth of the matter.

Quite A Stretch

Now I'm fond of letting pesky little facts get in the way of liberal spin, so be it in this case. Obama's "Truth Team" failed to see this video evidently even though he said he approved them both. No blaming his Super PACS for these mistruths. Even though Obama approves a lie doesn't make it true though. He doesn't have that sort of super power!

The missing parts seem peritent to the discussion. The ad claims that Romey paid 14% taxes on a $20 million 2010 income. Actually doing the math and calculating into it the Alternative Minimum Tax Romney paid the percentage increases to above 15%. Whoops! Left that part out huh? Strike one (1). The ads claims that the amount (percentage) is probably less than you. That has to be a dubious since about 50% of the wage earners in this nation presently pay zero percent. Obama always omits that FACT in his class warfare rhethoric. The truth-o-meter at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center states that the middle fifth of tax payers who actually pay income taxes at an effective rate of 9.2%. There are those pesky facts again. Strike two (2)!

Not Always Made Of Wood...

Back to the math. Romney paid $3,226,000 in federal taxes while at the same time giving $4,0202,572 to charities. Notice the difference? Taking the above ad into account wouldn't Romney have been better off not donating money to charity and paying more in taxes? The charities would have suffered but actually Romney would have kept more in his bank accounts, no matter where they are. The libs like that argument which is no more than cheap shotting people.

How so you ask? By shorting his favorite charities he would have paid an additional $1.4 million in taxes and his effective tax rate would have risen to 22%. That would have amounted to Romney keeping around $2.6 million in his own pocket and denied Team Obama the opportunity to run an extremely misleading campaign ad in sheer desperation. I've been reading how stingy liberal politicians are a lot lately but understand it. When you believe that the federal government should be the provider why have a need for charities? My how the times have changed. When I grew up there was a sense of community.

BTW - that was Strike 3!

What's really weird is how quickly that ad springs from Romney's income tax situation to the claim that Romney wants to give bigger tax breaks to the wealthy while increasing taxes on the middle class. That claim was without explanation in case you didn't notice. Here's the stretch of the truth. Romney's tax plan does in fact propose to lower taxes on the wealthy but it failed to say that his plan would lower taxes on ALL tax payers. See how that class warfare "envy card" comes into play so often. We all know Romney is rich. So what? We should all also recognize that so is Barak Hussein Obama.

Whether Romney's tax plan is achievable is up for grabs since he hasn't had a chance to try it out. As in any tax plan compromises and trade offs are usually unstated. But Obama's answer is taxing the rich and most sane economists state beyond a shadow of a doubt that isn't the answer. I'm still puzzled why none of these wise sages don't propose requiring every one who files a federal income tax to pay something.

Next up lets view the "Forward" ad by Obama.

Sounds Good?

The problem is that contained within that ad is Obama's claim that he has a "plan" to pay down the national debt. He never has nor do I expect that he will. If his plan is taxing the rich to do that it is like all of the rest of his failed policies. It won't work. The rich don't make enough money to make a dent in the national debt. Every one of us could be taxed at 100% this year and not do much more than scratch Obama's spending itch.

Not one of Obama's budget proposals that he has submitted has come close to even being balanced, once more make any progress at paying down the debt. This year it was just announced that the deficit is projected at $1.1 trillion. Another record breaker by the Spender-In-Chief. Don't wonder why Harry Reid and his Senate cronies have never bothered to propose, much less pass, a budget. They don't want one as it would require them to exercise a bit of fiscal restraint. That has been absent the past 4 years.

Most of us run a household on a budget and it is beyond me how Obama thinks one can pay down the debt without reducing spending. Not reducing spending is why he has been running record deficits every year since he took office. Maybe he just plans on continuing to use his Bank of China credit card until they cut us off, or end up owning this country.

I expect Team Obama to continue its present course of not addressing the economic problems that Obama has exacerbated rather than cured as he told us all he was capable of doing during during his first, and hopefully only, term. He said he would cut the deficit in half and instead we have seen it grow at a record rate. He has added $5 trillion and counting onto an eye popping national debt. He has yet to explain who is going to pay for his largesse.

As Always,

The Frog Prince

Remember In November

It seems to me that someone who donates more to charities than he pays in taxes is implicitly saying that charity knows how to manage the money better than the government does. Much of the middle class does not donate to charity for the simple reason that the government has taken over the responsibility of charity for us, and we can't afford to donate twice.

This is a solid argument and indisputable- (1) four years and no proposed budget from the Dem's (2) Any debt reduction without a reduction in spending is pure fantasy except for those who pay taxes now and future taxpayers for generations to come!

If We the People get 8 years for Romney, then another 8 for Ryan, we've got an Arizona gal for the NEXT 8 after that--at least we do if she wins the primary on Aug. 28 (expected) and beats Gabrielle Giffords' successor, Ron Barber, for the CD2 U.S. House seat in November (definitely possible).

Just thought I'd toss that in since y'all have well covered the bases on the basic Hub topic. McSally was our first female combat pilot, first female squadron commander, and kicked the entire military's butt in court over the issue of being forced to wear Muslim head garb in Saudi Arabia when off duty--and she did that BEFORE retiring as a Colonel.

Yep. Get McSally in there after Romney & Ryan have softened up the nanny state with body blows for 16 years, and the libs won't be getting tingles down their legs any longer. They'll be getting entire yellow rivers down there.

Someone essentially said, The politician who steals from Peter, and gives it to Paul will have no trouble getting Paul's vote. The problem with the present circumstance is the number of Pauls is increasing everyday.

Good and useful information in this hub, Frog.

Another great read Frog - I am so hoping Romney takes over after the elections in November! If I had a "superpower" I would want to be able to make "stupid" hurt - Then come November I would turn it up real high so all the stupid people would be in too much pain to go out and vote. A girl can dream ..... Voted Up and all

Polly - Here's a link people need to read about what you are referring to. That is all about votes, nothing more and nothing less. It has nothing to do with "doing the right thing" as Obama likes to term it. This is just tax credits and there is plenty more that this is costing us.

Parks - I believe you hit the nail on the head. Our whole federal government needs to be reined in and model what the US Constitution says its role is.

BPOP - Only a Dem can say for sure.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, after all we have witnessed coming from Team Obama anyone who still believes he is fit to be president is mentally challenged. The lies are so outrageous and there doesn't seem to be an end to it. Do Dems like to be played for fools? Up and interesting, useful and awesome.

I grow tired of the all inclusive, universal 'We.'

The policy of the U.S. Federal Government is not mine. Nor do I agree with the taxation structure of the U.S. Botom line: If you personally benefit from service provided or underwriten by the Federal Government, then.... you must pay for those services. We are not entitled, nor are we a socialist state( yet)

I fall short of supporting this nations' military envolvement in the Middle East and Afghanistan. Can we ignore foriegn threat? Not if in-fact there is one. and then,,at what cost? $ trillions spent here.

As a people we continue to over look the debasing of our economy through the expense of multiple front military envolvement, decades of outsourcing ( corporate) manufacturing, distribution, service. Politics is fueled by mis-information. Obama is simply the icing on the sh.. cake.

In the month of June, Obama and Romney raised $200+ million ... And the American people were happy to write a check for it. Hope and change?

We are fighting over bread crumbs, when we speak of personal income tax.

Note: While Romney claimed $20 million in 2010, Obama claimed $8 million.

While Wall Street made Romney wealthy, the media has done so for Obama. The issue is a dead one... Neither candidate is worthy of the office. A viable 3rd choice would be much appreciated.

Thank you Frog Prince. Well done!

It is not Americans relying on the government that is hurting us, not even unemployment compares to what the real culprit is and Obama is certainly all for that and looking for ways to give them more. The Dream Act will cost us about $12,000 a head for their 2 free years not counting any student loans they may qualify for. It is not Americans making this country go broker and broker and it is not Americans benefiting. Somehow though we can know many someones high up must be benefiting but how and why, I really would like to know.

Good job with the analysis of lies. I'm overwhelmed with the garbage being spewed from not just Obama and the Dems, but from ALL our politicians.

I agree with you that everyone above poverty level should pay something in income taxes, and yes, I agree also we don't want to raise taxes on anyone, though I might be in favor of a slight increase in the minimum % on tax payments.

The budget deficits and national debt are SPENDING problems, so we do have to cut. The issue is this: Where do we cut? Yeah, get rid of some federal departments, that's a couple drops in the bucket. Reform Social Security and Medicare.....yeah, I'm for it BUT it's going to be really hard to do without hurting a lot of people who, sadly, have no one else to rely upon -the family unit has suffered tremendously over the last 30-40 years while government has stepped in to take over the responsibilities we have to each other; in other words, we really DO have a problem with many Americans relying on the government because our government, under both Dems and Repubs, has set it up that way.

      Voted up and interesting Frog!

Stu - You and I understand what the tax situation is for the wealthy. The feds get their taxes and they still want more. Let everyone contribute first before we talk about raising the rates on anyone.

Another little "fact" (a real one) Obama always leaves out - most of the very wealthy make their money from capital gains. They pay 15% on gains from stocks held and sold after one year, plus the company behind the stock is taxed at about 35%, reducing the stock appreciation. Thus, the very wealthy pay an effective tax rate of about 50%.

Shame on you Frog! They are very charitable with your money, just not their own. For Biden, and for liberals in general, charity means giving other people's money (they would say the government's money) to other's for their for votes.

FP. Awesome info, as usual, but to even suggest that Oblame-o gives ANYTHING to charities is absurd! He doesn't GIVE. He is coerced by his advisors, is my guess, for appearances, and has to RELEASE a little.

internpete - Here's one report. Google has many more stroeis about Obama and his caritable contributions.

Biden strides in at 1.5%. Seems to Dems figure the government needs to do what we used to do for ourselves and each other.

Romney gave 20% of his income to charities in 2010.

You bring up so many interesting points. A big question I have is how much has obama given to charities in the last four years?

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard obama calling Romney out for his supposedly excessively attacking ads, and then admitting quietly that there were a few dem super pacs which were airing ads that might have incorrect facts. What a hypocrite.

I have often thought about if the government was a business, why in the world would anyone elect an inexperienced individual as the CEO? The 'business' is asking to fail. oh wait, that's politics for you.
