Take Time To Think...

Updated on August 23, 2012

As Things Get Uglier

Lately I seem to be running a bit short on Pinocchio's to award Team Obama concerning their blatantly false and misleading campaign ads aimed at Mitt Romney. This is only the end of August so I do expect things to get worse as Obama gets more desperate. This campaign only goes to show the American people what will happen when they elect the most unqualified, inexperienced candidate possible to be the CEO of this great nation of ours. When the jig is up and he has a failed record, such as Obama's, then one has the tendency to make things up even though the present occupant of The People's House just claimed in his "fit of anger" press conference that he learned not to do that as the POTUS. It was evidently totally okay before he was elected but he learned not to after he was elected and not before?

What I speak of in this article has to do with two ads that Team Obama has been running the past couple of weeks which at best are misleading. You can't pack too many actual "FACTS" into 30 second sound bites so the Team just seems to totally ignore them. I also realize that math isn't usually a strong suit in Liberalville and both of these ads deal with mathematics though not of the complex sort. Lets watch the first ad and then analyze the truth of the matter.

Quite A Stretch

Now I'm fond of letting pesky little facts get in the way of liberal spin, so be it in this case. Obama's "Truth Team" failed to see this video evidently even though he said he approved them both. No blaming his Super PACS for these mistruths. Even though Obama approves a lie doesn't make it true though. He doesn't have that sort of super power!

The missing parts seem peritent to the discussion. The ad claims that Romey paid 14% taxes on a $20 million 2010 income. Actually doing the math and calculating into it the Alternative Minimum Tax Romney paid the percentage increases to above 15%. Whoops! Left that part out huh? Strike one (1). The ads claims that the amount (percentage) is probably less than you. That has to be a dubious since about 50% of the wage earners in this nation presently pay zero percent. Obama always omits that FACT in his class warfare rhethoric. The truth-o-meter at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center states that the middle fifth of tax payers who actually pay income taxes at an effective rate of 9.2%. There are those pesky facts again. Strike two (2)!

Not Always Made Of Wood...

Back to the math. Romney paid $3,226,000 in federal taxes while at the same time giving $4,0202,572 to charities. Notice the difference? Taking the above ad into account wouldn't Romney have been better off not donating money to charity and paying more in taxes? The charities would have suffered but actually Romney would have kept more in his bank accounts, no matter where they are. The libs like that argument which is no more than cheap shotting people.

How so you ask? By shorting his favorite charities he would have paid an additional $1.4 million in taxes and his effective tax rate would have risen to 22%. That would have amounted to Romney keeping around $2.6 million in his own pocket and denied Team Obama the opportunity to run an extremely misleading campaign ad in sheer desperation. I've been reading how stingy liberal politicians are a lot lately but understand it. When you believe that the federal government should be the provider why have a need for charities? My how the times have changed. When I grew up there was a sense of community.

BTW - that was Strike 3!

What's really weird is how quickly that ad springs from Romney's income tax situation to the claim that Romney wants to give bigger tax breaks to the wealthy while increasing taxes on the middle class. That claim was without explanation in case you didn't notice. Here's the stretch of the truth. Romney's tax plan does in fact propose to lower taxes on the wealthy but it failed to say that his plan would lower taxes on ALL tax payers. See how that class warfare "envy card" comes into play so often. We all know Romney is rich. So what? We should all also recognize that so is Barak Hussein Obama.

Whether Romney's tax plan is achievable is up for grabs since he hasn't had a chance to try it out. As in any tax plan compromises and trade offs are usually unstated. But Obama's answer is taxing the rich and most sane economists state beyond a shadow of a doubt that isn't the answer. I'm still puzzled why none of these wise sages don't propose requiring every one who files a federal income tax to pay something.

Next up lets view the "Forward" ad by Obama.

Sounds Good?

The problem is that contained within that ad is Obama's claim that he has a "plan" to pay down the national debt. He never has nor do I expect that he will. If his plan is taxing the rich to do that it is like all of the rest of his failed policies. It won't work. The rich don't make enough money to make a dent in the national debt. Every one of us could be taxed at 100% this year and not do much more than scratch Obama's spending itch.

Not one of Obama's budget proposals that he has submitted has come close to even being balanced, once more make any progress at paying down the debt. This year it was just announced that the deficit is projected at $1.1 trillion. Another record breaker by the Spender-In-Chief. Don't wonder why Harry Reid and his Senate cronies have never bothered to propose, much less pass, a budget. They don't want one as it would require them to exercise a bit of fiscal restraint. That has been absent the past 4 years.

Most of us run a household on a budget and it is beyond me how Obama thinks one can pay down the debt without reducing spending. Not reducing spending is why he has been running record deficits every year since he took office. Maybe he just plans on continuing to use his Bank of China credit card until they cut us off, or end up owning this country.

I expect Team Obama to continue its present course of not addressing the economic problems that Obama has exacerbated rather than cured as he told us all he was capable of doing during during his first, and hopefully only, term. He said he would cut the deficit in half and instead we have seen it grow at a record rate. He has added $5 trillion and counting onto an eye popping national debt. He has yet to explain who is going to pay for his largesse.

As Always,

The Frog Prince
